Rules of the Addison County Field Days Horse Show All classes are open to everyone meeting the criteria listed for the class LOCAL FARRIERS: Ashley Audet 802 349-4576. LOCAL VETERINARIANS: Balanced Rhythms (Matt Rose and Molly Witters) 802-758-2545 RESCUE/EMT: Call 911 FOOD CONCESSION: Available on the Fair grounds NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THE GROUNDS HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: The show management requires proof of a negative Coggins Test certificate and a Rabies Vaccination Certificate (or proof thereof) dated within 12 months for EVERY ANIMAL. No exhibitor and their equine will be allowed to stay on show grounds without proof of a negative Coggins and Rabies vaccination. Exhibitors from out-of-state are required to have a Health Certificate. FEES & REFUND POLICY: Class fees are $5 each pre-entry, $6 after postmark date or at show. Entry fees MUST be paid before entering classes. A signed, blank check may be included with your entries as payment. There will be a $30.00 surcharge, plus collection fees added to all checks returned by the bank. All entries not paid in full at the show will be charged a $25.00 billing fee. There will be no refunds without a veterinarian certificate or a doctor certificate presented or received within 24 hours of the conclusion of the show. SMOKING: Smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas (marked tents). STABLING: Stalls are assigned on a first-come, first-reserved basis with payment. Permanent box stalls are available for $15 per day. No refunds on stalls. $5 refund if stalls are left clean. You are responsible for stripping your stall before departure. We encourage you to reserve your stalls early. No switching stalls without the permission of the show manager or secretary. Every effort will be made to accommodate stabling requests. One animal per stall, with the exception of small ponies (under 13 hands), Miniature Horses and mares & foals. RULES: Exhibitors are responsible for knowing the rules pertaining to the classes they enter. Every class offered herein is covered by the rules and specifications of the current VHSA, USEF and/or specific breed Rule Books and will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. By signing the entry form you agree to abide by all the rules of this show. RULE BOOKS are available at the secretary s stand for reviewing. NOTE: PLEASE SEE HARD HAT RULE PUBLISHED IN THE VHSA RULE BOOK. ATTIRE & EQUIPMENT: All riders, drivers and attendants shall be neatly, cleanly and correctly attired for the class in which they are exhibiting. It shall be the prerogative of the show manager, the judge and/or the steward to exclude from the ring, anyone whom they do not consider suitably presented to appear before the audience interested in their class. Definitions of correct attire can be found in the current USEF Rule Book (GR318, etc.) or any of the specific breed rule books. All animals being exhibited shall have the correct equipment for the class in which they are exhibiting. It shall be the prerogative of the show manager, the judge and/or the steward to exclude from the ring, any animal that they do not consider suitably equipped to show in their class. Definitions of correct equipment can be found in the current VHSA Rule Book or any of the specific breed rulebooks.

DELAY OF CLASSES/HOLDS: Every effort has been made to avoid class conflicts and tack changes. If either should occur, a hold of four (4) minutes, will be allowed if the show steward is notified at least three (3) classes before the needed tack hold. Exhibitor with the tack hold may be excused from the ring as soon as the judge s card is handed into the Secretary s booth. The Steward is to time the tack hold starting as the last exhibitor leaves the ring. The In-Gate will be closed two (2) minutes after the first animal enters the ring unless there is a hold or tack change noted by the steward. Exhibitors must be on time for their classes to keep the show moving along. In the event that the PA system fails, exhibitors will still be expected to appear on time. No refunds for failing to enter the ring on time. MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT TO: 1) Add to or vary the list of invited officials; 2) decline or refuse any entry at this show without being held liable; 3) eliminate from further competition any exhibitor or equine, should the best interests of the show be served; 4) not delay classes due to conflicts, and not to allow substitutions of animals or classes; 5) change the order of classes before or during the show, combine or cancel classes without notifying the exhibitors. Should any questions or disputes arise not provided for in the foregoing rules, the same shall be referred to the show steward whose decision shall be final. PARKING: All vehicles must display the proper parking pass. One vehicle is permitted within the gates per exhibitor; all other vehicles can be parked on the back hill for easy walking access to the horse area. All horse trailers must be parked in the designated areas. OTHER: Schooling allowed anywhere on grounds unless announced otherwise or posted at the entry stand. Measuring area will be posted at the entry stand and/or announced at show. Exhibitors may wear ASTM/SEI protective headgear in any classes without penalty from the judge. Additional testing at judge s discretion. Weanling Class (2014foals): If more than 8 entries class will be divided according to birth month; January-June and July- December. No more than two attendants per entry are allowed in the ring. The use of any whip over 6 long by a handler or assistant is prohibited. Entries to be shown in a suitable halter. No bitted bridles allowed. Dams shall not be allowed in the ring. The judge shall inspect each entry from both sides, front and rear. To be judged on conformation, quality, way of going and soundness. Yearling Class (2013 foals): No more than two attendants per entry are allowed in the ring. The use of any whip over 6 long by a handler or assistant is prohibited. Entries to be shown in a suitable halter. No bitted bridles allowed. Dams shall not be allowed in the ring. The judge shall inspect each entry from both sides, front and rear. To be judged on conformation, quality, way of going and soundness. Two Year Olds (2012 foals): No more than two attendants per entry are allowed in the ring. The use of any whip over 6 long by a handler or assistant is prohibited. Entries to be shown in a suitable halter or bridle. The judge shall inspect each entry from both sides, front and rear. To be judged on conformation, quality, way of going and soundness. English Performance: Saddleseat only. To be shown at a walk, trot, canter both ways of the ring. Judged 50% on equitation and 50% on performance of mount. Adult Novice Rider Equitation, Pleasure and Trail (18 and over): Any adult in their first year of showing and may not cross enter into any class requiring canter/lope. Equitation and Pleasure classes are walk/trot only both ways of the ring. Equitation class only the rider is judge on seat, hands and ability to handle mount. Pleasure class only the horse is judge on way of going and the ability to give a pleasurable ride. Trail class, to be shown over a course of at least 4 obstacles typically found on a trail. Walk, trot/jog only. May be asked to back up. THIS DIVISION DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY UNDER SADDLE CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES. Addison County Pleasure Classes: To be shown at walk, trot/jog and canter/lope both ways of the ring. To be judged on manners, suitability of horse for rider, performance and quality; in that order. Junior Horse Trail: To be shown over a course of at least four (4) obstacles typically found on a trail, at a walk, trot/jog and canter/lope. Entrants to be judged on manners, suitability of horse to rider, performance and substance, in that order. **Therapeutic Riding classes are designed for riders of all ages with physical or cognitive impairments that would interfere with riding independently in a group. The side walkers can provide physical contact with the rider for safety purposes only. Verbal and visual cues can be provided to assist the rider in understanding the task and for safety. Therapeutic Riding Level 1: Able to demonstrate a good position at both the walk and trot. Riders can post/rise to the trot but are not yet aware of diagonals. They can be asked to change diagonals. Riders at this level should not be balancing on the horse s mouth. Hands should be independent at walk. The use of a neck strap in the absence of a standing martingale neck strap is allowed periodically at the trot. Riders should be able to halt, turn and change directions. Therapeutic Riding Level 2: Able to demonstrate a good position at both the walk and trot. Riders can post/rise to the trot and are aware of diagonals, even though they may not always pick up the correct diagonal. They can be asked to change diagonals. Riders at this level should not be balancing on the horse s mouth or in need of a neck strap. Hands should be independent at walk. Riders should be able to halt, turn and change directions. Therapeutic Riding Trail: Exhibitors must navigate a minimum of three obstacles. To be judged on ability to navigate obstacles as independently as possible.
