Commodore s Comments That is certainly good news. However, there is more good news in regard to Lake Michigan water levels. But take it with a grain of sand, so to speak. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released the latest lake level forecast and it looks promising: Lake Superior is 7 inches higher than it was at this time last year, while Lakes Michigan-Huron and St. Clair are 7 and 4 inches, respectively, lower than last year's level. Lakes Superior, Michigan-Huron, St. Clair, and Erie are predicted to rise 2 to 3 inches over the next month. Lake Superior is forecast to stay above last year's water levels through August, while the remaining lakes are forecast to remain at or below their levels of a year ago over the next several months. But looking at the chart data, it appears that Lake Michigan will at least reach last year s level and sustain that level well into the fall. As I see it (and I tend to be optimistic), lake levels are somewhat below last year at this time. But they will catch up as the spring thaws melt that near-record snowfall into the basin. I know what happens here in South Milwaukee doesn t necessarily mean Lake Michigan will rise. However, it also snowed a lot in the other parts of the Lake Michigan basin. The Army Corps charts support my prediction that we are in an upward swing this year. Here is more good news: A recent sounding done by our own Harbor and Docks Committee shows that water levels in our harbor are about the same as last year at this time. However, there was a strong east wind on the day we sounded the harbor and that tends to make the water level rise a bit. But we noticed very few trouble spots and we will concentrate on those spots during the dredging project. In other words, we will be fine! See ya at the club, Ray

Eggstream Easter Party Thanks Entertainment Calendar Easter is eggstremely early this year and my biggest fear for the kid s Easter Party & Egg Hunt was the weather, I didn t think we would have a good turn out if there was 10 inches of snow on the ground. Once again Mother Nature cooperated and the kids were able to have a great time hunting for eggs outdoors. Congratulations to all of the winners of the contests as well as the raffle winners Enjoy! Big thanks to Jimbo, Katie, S a r a h a n d Clara Conti for stuffing the eggs, making the signs and organizing the food. Anne Michaels and Linda Daly did an awesome job with the kid s coloring and craft activities and Pat Murray and Katie Conti kept all the ticket and raffle sales running smoothly. The kitchen was manned by many men this year, thank you Jimbo, Mickey, Tom Peterson, Steve Bowens and Ralph Michaels for all you did, it s greatly appreciated and tasted great too! Roxanne, Jeannie and Del had the tough task of judging the coloring and craft contest and as usual did a fantastic job. Thanks everyone for your support, because of you we raised $334.00 for the club.
