The Spiders had their best shooting performance of the season from long range, going 7-5 (46.7 percent) to overcome multiple and nine point FAU leads, one of which came late in the third quarter. One major difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Spiders made of attempts to pull away in this one. Janelle Hubbard was named the Tournament MVP and Lauren Tolson was named to the All-Tournament team. Hubbard was arguably as good shooting the ball as she ever has been, going -9 from the floor, 4-4 from deep and 6-6 from the free throw line to account for her points; a season-high. She finished the game with exactly,4 points in her career, which moves her past Amber Goppert (,98) and into eighth on the Richmond all-time scoring list. RichmondSpiders Conference Website:...www.atlantic.com 6-7 Richmond Women s Basketball COMEBACK KIDS The Spiders have yet to lead a game after the first quarter this season and have faced double-digit deficits in nearly every game. The positive that can be drawn from that however is that this team has displayed the ability overcome those deficits. FAU built a lead of in the first quarter and had an eight-point lead with : to play in the third quarter before Richmond commenced on a 6-8 run to close the game. It was the first double-digit deficit that the Spiders had overcome since an OT win at Saint Louis on Feb. 7, 5. A game in which the Billikens held a -point advantage. Deficits Erased this Season: Columbia: Trailed by, Cut to in 4th quarter Virginia: Trailed by 7, Tied the game in 4th quarter Florida A&M: Trailed by 8, Won by Florida Atlantic: Trailed by, Won by FIRE UP THE BENCH Richmond scored 9 points off the bench in both games down in Boca Raton. That staggering figure came in large part from Lauren Tolson, Jaide Hinds-Clarke, Ragan Wiseman and Karleigh Wike. Tolson moved to the bench after the season-opener after making 5-consecutive starts and has provided a spark, averaging 9. points off the pine since. Wike has pitched in 5.7 ppg while Hinds-Clarke and Wiseman have contributed 4.6 ppg and 4. ppg in that same stretch. FRESHMEN EMERGING Freshman Jaide Hinds-Clarke has come off the bench every game this season and produced to varying degrees but this weekend in Boca Raton the New Jersey native exploded for 7 points and grabbed rebounds over the two games. Ragan Wiseman broke out as well, especially in the title game vs. FAU. She canned nine points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace the UR bench in the winning effort. LAUREN TOLSON RETURNS Lauren Tolson returns for a fifth and final season in 6 after being granted an extra year of eligibility following an injury that knocked her out after just eight games last season. She averaged.4 points per game before she went out and made triples that ultimately landed third among her teammates at season s end. MUCH IMPROVED PARSON Micaela Parson established herself as the second scoring option to Janelle Hubbard on the Spiders roster in the absence of Lauren Tolson last season. Parson emerged from a non-descript freshman campaign to average. points per game. Parson closed the 5-6 season scoring in double-figures in nine-straight games and opened the 6-7 campaign averaging 7. points per game over the first four contests. HUDALLA HYSTERIA Junior forward Alicia Hudalla did not find her way onto the floor in the season opener opposite Columbia but made up for it by earning the first start of her career against Virginia and did not disappoint. Hudalla scored six points, including the game-tying basket with just over one minute to play, grabbed six rebounds and even handed out an assist. She has started every game since that effort.

Janelle Hubbard has already been chosen to the preseason second team and Lauren Tolson was a preseason third team choice a year ago. FOUR FRESHMEN The Spiders have added size in recruiting this season. Jaide Hinds- Clarke, Amy Duggan and Ragan Wiseman all clock in north of six-feet tall with Dee Hatcher coming in at 5-8 to match the size of Janelle Hubbard and Micaela Parson. Hinds-Clarke is a classic post player with size and strength while Duggan and Wiseman will stretch the floor. Hatcher carries many similarities to Parson as slashing guard with a good combination of speed and strength. BIG HOME DATE Penn will visit the Robins Center for the first time since 995 having never beaten the Richmond Spiders in seven tries. Penn went 4-5 last season, earning a share of the Ivy League title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a -seed before going down to eventual Final Four team Washington. KYLIE MURPHREE Murphree, now a junior, was a slow starter in 5-6 but quickly rounded into form to close out her sophomore campaign. She handed out a team-best and career-high 5 assists while also averaging.8 points and. rebounds. She is still searching for her first double-digit scoring performance but scored at least six points on nine occasions last season. Four of those games resulted in victories. MICHAEL SHAFER BECOMES WINNINGEST COACH On Saturday, Jan. 4, 4; Richmond head coach Michael Shafer became the most winningest coach in Richmond women s basketball history as he notched his 67th-career victory as a Spider over the UMass Minutewomen. Following his th season at Richmond, Shafer was 74-4 all-time and with that win surpassed the famous Fanny Crenshaw - Richmond s long-time coach of 5 years. Crenshaw was 66-58-5 over her 5 years (99-955) as Richmond s head coach. ROBINS CENTER Built in 97 through the generosity of the E. Claiborne Robins family, the Robins Center underwent a $7 million renovation in -4 that has transformed it into one of the premier college basketball arenas in the nation, while drawing rave reviews from players, coaches, fans and media. The renovations created a more intimate game day atmosphere and provided enhanced amenities for basketball fans. The renovations to the main arena of the Robins Center included new state-of-the-art LED lighting, midnight blue painted ceiling, four 5 feet by feet video boards, scoreboards, refurbished seats, new premium seating options, new terrace hospitality areas, a refinished/newly painted court and renovated restrooms. The video boards are the largest in the Atlantic conference, and among the largest of any on-campus arena in the ACC or Big East.
