Going Back to the Start ENW Episode 01 The first news report for this special 250th edition of English News Weekly goes back to the very first podcast which was released in March 2011. The topic for 1: 01 was the Arab Spring in the Middle-East. This was a series of protests and demonstrations across the region that helped to bring down long term leaders in Egypt, Yemen, 2: and Libya. The Arab Spring protests first began in Tunisia on the 18th December after the death of Mohamed Bouazizi, a Tunisian 3: vendor who set himself on fire. After weeks of protests the President of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali resigned after 24 years in power. Before he could be arrested Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia and continues to refuse to return to Tunisia. He was tried in absentia and was sentenced to 35 years in 4:. Other long-term dictators who were also forced to leave office included Egypt s Hosni Mubarak who had been president for 30 years. Mubarak continues to be detained in a military 5: five years after he resigned. Libya s president Muammar Gaddafi who after civil war broke out was captured and executed by opposition soldiers. Gaddafi had been president of Libya for 42 years and during that time had 6: Islamic terrorism. Sadly five years on the Arab Spring has morphed into the Arab Winter and the Middle-East is still mostly lead by autocratic and undemocratic regimes. When Will You Marry by German painter Paul Gauguin was sold in privately in February 2015.
