WOODY CUP CHALLENGE.. By Tina Schafer On Saturday, September 13. 2015 the Woody Cup Challenge was held in Lincoln Park. The day was dark and chilly but that didn t stop teams from showing up and competing for the ever sought after trophy. The teams were from Berkley, Lake Orion, Lansing, Lincoln Park and St. Clair Shores. By participating in the Woody Cup, I ve had the opportunity to pitch individuals of all pitching skills. I ve had the pleasure of pitching Doug Bailey and George Parsons. Nervous doesn t even begin to describe how I felt pitching them. I swallowed hard and started talking to myself..got to keep it close and hope that my handicap helps me out. The power of positive thinking!! Well this year, I got to pitch James Dunlap. As you can imagine, I thought OH CRAP!! Here I go again, got to keep it close. James being James kept throwing doubles after doubles, I told him, James you don t have anything to worry about, it s not like I m Tom Williams who can answer those doubles. Anyone who knows James, knows that didn t make a difference. he didn t let up. Not that I really wanted him to, I just like giving him some grief. I also heard Dawn Price tell Mark Burns, You don t have anything to worry about with me, why not save those doubles for your next opponent. Then there was Cathy Ardelean running around the courts telling herself, keep the shoes in the pit and score single points. Lake Orion did a superb job of pitching and went home with the trophy. Lansing came in at a close second and promises to try harder next year (ha, ha). I d like to thank the Lincoln Park Club for hosting this year s Woody Cup. They did an excellent job of organizing the event and the pits looked great. The money ($600.00) collected from this event was donated to St. Jude s. Lake Orion has volunteered to host the Woody Cup next year on Saturday, September 17th. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this fun filled event. Who knows maybe you will get to pitch Doug, George or James...Oh My! Open Pitching Clank, Clank, Clank. Get on there. It s Pitchin Time. What is that you say; it s Thursday afternoon not Saturday. Why it s a group of pitcher s gathering at the Jackson facility to practice and scrimmage. This will be happening from October 22, 2015 March 17, 2016. They will be pitching from 1:00 p.m. to around 4:30 p.m. The cost to participate is $5.00 per day. There will be no open pitching the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Come on out and join in on the fun. Please contact Paul Bachelor at 810.772.8678 or e-mail him at paulbachelor@aol.com if you have any questions. Announcements. Judy, we thank you for your many years of service and dedication to the association Ron Kohn has officially announced that he is stepping down as President of the MHPA effective January 15, 2016. As 1st Vice President, Paul Bachelor will be filling this position until January 1, 2017. We will be voting in a new president at the fall meeting for the 2017/2018 term. Thank you Ron for your many years of service and dedication to the association. Paul, we are confident that you will do a super job as President. New Tournament Directors Fun Fact or Fiction..... By Keith Schafer Patty Terrill set or at least tied one record at the 2015 State Tournament. She won her first ever game in a tournament. During this tournament, her game with Tammy Tanner Miller went 108 shoes. Might want to do some research to see if this is a new record (length of game) where one participant got their first ever win. Tina Schafer will be acting as tournament director for both the Holt and Lansing Clubs. Holt is a new site for the organization and is anxious to have you come on over to their courts and pitch. They have six clay courts and do a very nice job of preparing/grooming their courts. She is also looking forward to working with the Lansing Club and organizing tournaments for them. Debbie Markley will be acting as tournament director for the Lapeer Club. Debbie would love to have you stop on over and pitch with Lapeer. Page 10 RINGER REPORT
