GOLF RULES AND INFORMATION 2017-2018 Committee: Martin Alfonso Dieter Kammerl Craig Pocklington Dave Jahnsen Steve Alfonso Harry Pitkanen Venue: President Handicapper Tour Handicapper Tour Organiser Assistant Tour Organiser Founding Member/Guru/Chief Sledger Bayview Golf Course Rules: Rule No. 1 Rule No. 2 Rule No. 3 Rule No. 4 The Committee is always right If the Committee is found to be not right, then Rule No. 1 applies. The Committee may make Rules from time to time as and when needed. If members disagree with a Rule determined by the Committee then Rule No. 2 applies. We are still high tech! We have our website on which these Rules, the Event Schedule, the opening of season letter and other material are posted. Each week we will have the updated handicaps and the results of the prior week (other than NTP s and LD s). The website address is www.nbdsgc.com. Save it as your favourite! Competition Season is made up of 24 games. The game on 28 March 2018 does not count towards the Pointscore. Events are played each Wednesday. Tee-off time is from 3.00pm to 4.15pm only (although this may vary during the season depending on numbers). Compulsory Call Up applies on every Par 3, where appropriate. Do not call up if the next tee has already been vacated. Fast Play makes the game enjoyable - Slow Play is just selfish. Remember, good play means being just behind the team in front, not just ahead of the team behind. Play off black markers but if they are not in place on the day then play off the blue markers (we will not be playing off the white markers except in the very unlikely event that there is no black or blue marker). BUT handicappers off 18 or more (regardless of their age) may play off the white markers on the 7 th - there is no concession based on age only. Play as it lies subject to the Bayview Golf Club rules of the day as displayed on the notice board. Team Events - Partners to be allocated on the day. Matters/858/175500/00176979.DOC.4
- In the event of odd numbers, lowest handicapper swings - If a player does not have a handicap, he still plays as part of the team and plays off scratch. Count back holes are 11, 10, 7, 4, 1 Provisional handicaps for new players will be allocated only by the Committee and is not subject to complaint unless accompanied by a schooner of beer for each committee member and their mates! The maximum handicap is 19. New members will not qualify for prizes (other than for NTP s and LD s) until their handicap is determined. New members who already have an AGU handicap will have a handicap determined for this competition immediately. If the new member has no AGU handicap then they need to play 3 games before their handicap is determined. Handicap adjustments are generally as follows based on stableford point score events: 0 to 18 points + 0.3 19 to 22 points no change 23 points - 0.3 24 points - 0.8 25 points - 1.4 26 points - 2.2 27 points + - 3.1 For all team events, please ensure that individual stableford scores are still recorded on the card as that is needed to qualify for the Performance Trophy. At all times, the handicapper has a reasonable discretion to adjust handicaps Weekly prizes are as follows: Points Golf Balls Winner 3 3 Second 2 2 Third 1 1 L/Drive #2 1 (A Grade 1 to 11; B Grade 12+) NTP #4 1 NTP # 5 (Drive & Chip) 1 NTP #8 1 NTP #10 1 Pointscore Where a team event is played, the points for each player, and the prizes, will be awarded as follows:- Points Golf Balls 2 man team Winner 3 3 Second 2 2 Third 1 1 Matters/858/175500/00176979.DOC.4 2
Where individual stableford is played in conjunction with another competition, then the points awarded and prizes given for the individual stableford are as follows:- Points Golf Balls Winner 1.5 3 Second 1 2 Third 0.5 1 For those of you who intend to play in the usual BGC 18 hole comp on a Wednesday but you would also like to qualify for this comp, the rules are that you need to hit off from the 1 st hole in the BGC comp (otherwise you get an unfair advantage hitting off the 12 th and have warmed up by the time you get to the 1 st well, that s the theory anyway), we will still ask you for your $10 comp fee and you will not be able to qualify for LD s or NTP s. Any complaints, buy each member of the committee a schooner and we promise to listen whether we act on it is a matter for the committee. There are no "gimmees" allowed in any of the games, including Matchplay. You must complete the hole by sinking the put in order to score points The Weekly Prizes We do not have any specific sponsors this year but if you would like to sponsor an event, provide a prize or two and spruik your wares to the masses, we d be delighted for you to do so. Just let me know which event that you would like to sponsor. The Performance Trophy The Performance Trophy works like this:- every game in the Event Schedule is a stableford event your individual points for every game you play in the season is added up to qualify for the trophy you need to have played 14 rounds in the season your best 14 rounds are taken into account the player with the most points at the end of the season is the winner in the unlikely event that there are 2 or more players with the same number of points at the end of the formal season then there will be a play off on a date to be decided. And if we still cannot determine the winner, we ll toss a coin. The Individual Matchplay Event This year we are again including a Match Play series during the season. There will again be 2 Qualifying Rounds. Based on those 2 rounds, your best result (not the average of your results) will qualify you or not. The top 31 players then qualify to play in Round 1. The winner of the Matchplay Event for the prior year (The Honourable President, Martin Alfonso) automatically qualifies. If someone declares their unavailability to participate in Round 1, then their position will be filled by the 32nd top player and so on. If someone declares their unavailability to participate in the next Round before the next Round commences, then their position will be filled by the player who they beat in the prior match. After the Qualifying Round, who plays who in the remaining rounds will be drawn out of the hat. Matters/858/175500/00176979.DOC.4 3
We have given options for Rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 to allow for the participants to arrange a suitable date to play their match. However, if both are in attendance at the game listed as an option, then they are expected to play that game as the Matchplay game no deferring until a later option date as that can cause problems with the organisers. If the one person cannot make any of the optional rounds, the other person is deemed the winner. If both are unable to make any of the optional rounds, the winner will be decided by the Guru on the toss of a coin (unless the Guru is one of the players involved in which case, Trust me I m a lawyer will do it again, no bribes will be taken!) If by the end of a round you have for any reason not played your opponent, then the winner will be on a toss of a coin unless you and your opponent can agree on some other method to determine a winner before the next round starts. We will not get into arguments about who is right or wrong and whether they should have been available to play or not. You re all grown men sort it out yourselves! Finally, if you are in Rounds 1, 2, 3 or 4 and you and your opponent reach the 11 th hole with a squared result, then you need to proceed to and play the 12 th hole followed by the 11 th again etc etc until there is a result. The index for the 12 th hole is 7. It is hoped that the final of the Individual Matchplay is held on the end of season tour. So, if you are doing well, make sure you commit for the tour! If the final is not played on the Tour then it must be played as an 18 hole event using your AGU handicap. If you do not have an AGU handicap then the handicapper will determine your handicap for the event. The Teams Matchplay Event Following the success of this event in the past seasons, and given the fabulous trophy designed and built by Janzy, the event is on again. The concept is similar to the Individual Matchplay Event Unlike the Matchplay Event, there will be no Qualifying Rounds for this event. It is restricted to the first 16 teams that put their names down BUT each team member must have paid their deposit for the Tour to qualify. I will collect team member names after the date for payment of the Tour deposit (to be confirmed as to when that will be). I will not take your names without the deposit being paid (not just promised to be paid). This competition is on a first in best dressed basis so as soon as I have the names on 16 teams AND have verified that the Tour deposit is paid (not just promised to be paid) then entry into the competition is closed. This is a straight 2Ball Aggregate knock out competition. There are no optional rounds so if you put your team in you have to commit to playing on the date shown in the Event Schedule. If a team member cannot play on the date for the round, then the team forfeits and its opposing team goes to the next round. Of course, if a game is washed out then the game is expected to be played the following week, no matter what. If one player in a team cannot play, there is no right to ask for someone else to step into his place. Each round of the competition will be decided on drawing teams out of the hat. Matters/858/175500/00176979.DOC.4 4
Like Individual Matchplay, if by the end of a round you have for any reason not played your opponents, then the winner will be on a toss of a coin unless you and your opponents can agree on some other method to determine a winner before the next round starts. We will not get into arguments about who is right or wrong and whether they should have been available to play or not. You re all grown men sort it out yourselves! If a Team wins but the players cannot play in the next Round for any reason then the team that lost to that winning team steps up. But, if the Team that wins only forfeits on the day of the next round then the other Team it was to play wins through automatically to the next round. If in the Rounds (including the Final) your Team and your opposing Team reach the 11 th hole with a squared result, then you need to proceed to and play the 12 th hole followed by the 11 th again etc etc until there is a result. The index for the 12 th hole is 7. The Teams Matchplay Final will be held on the end of season Tour. If for any reason a team cannot play on the Tour, then the team that they played in the prior round may step up for the Final. Additional Attendance Prizes As we have done before, we will at the conclusion of the usual presentation after the game, draw a card at random from the field of players on the day for this prize. But, the player whose name is drawn must be there to receive it and if he s not there, the prize does not jackpot; there will be up to 3 prize draws; no one who has won a prize during the presentation qualifies for the attendance prize End of Season Event and Trophy We expect the End of Season weekend away to be from Friday 16 March 2018 to Sunday 18 March 2018. Easter is on Friday 30 March 2018. School holidays start Friday 13 April 2018. As to where we are going, that has yet to be settled but hopefully will be Bonville. In addition to the usual daily prizes for each game, we will again this year have:- The Tour Challenge The competition is quite easy. We simply take your individual Stableford points for each of the 3 games and add them together. And no, the total number of alcoholic drinks consumed on the weekend do not accrue any additional points. At the end of weekend, Sunday afternoon, the trophy will be awarded to the winner. The name of the winner will be affixed to the Trophy and the winner will take it home to show all and sundry for the next 12 boring months. Of course, the standard Trophy Rules apply. At the end of each day a leader will be announced and he is expected to give a humorous account of his exploits for that day and how he expects to defend his lead going into the next day. Usual tactics apply throughout the weekend. Humorous and light hearted sledging is encouraged as long as it s pointed in Harry's direction on day 1 and then at the leader on each following day. Besides this, you really don't have to do anything special, just play golf and have fun. Matters/858/175500/00176979.DOC.4 5
The handicap system for the Tour will be determined by the Committee prior to the Tour. Rule 1 applies. New Encouragement Trophy Thanks to the generosity of our oldest member, Lew Carter, we have a trophy to be presented at the end of the season. It is known as the ShakeItUp Encouragement Trophy and will be presented to the member who the Committee considers should be encouraged to continue playing golf and be part of the group. Fees and Fundraising for the Season: Yearly membership $20.00 Fees $10.00 per week (exclusive of green fees) NO GST. We hope to again have a unique NBDSG golf shirt for the weekend away details to follow Martin Alfonso President Newport Beach Daylight Savings Golf Club As at 6 September 2017 Matters/858/175500/00176979.DOC.4 6
