AQUATICS PROGRAMS Descriptions Aquacize Enjoy a low-impact aerobic workout taught by an instructor. Achieve your fitness goals, whether they include weight loss, improving range of motion, or general well being, with a cardio and resistance workout. Pay a single entry fee or purchase a Splash Pass. Note: The weekday morning Water Exercise Class is different and requires a Water Exercise Pass for entry. See schedule for times and fees. Therapeutic Swim This time is for individuals who are not able to lap swim or participate in more advanced exercise classes due to physical reasons. Therapeutic Swim is for individual exercise and is not lead by an instructor. This swim time is shared with other programs. Lap Swim Lap swimming times are available throughout the week (refer to pool schedule). Lap swimming times are open to all ages, as long as you can swim continually. During busy times we encourage sharing a lane or circle swimming. Recreation/Family Swim Come slide down our 65-foot water slide (7+ years of age) and jump as high as you can on our diving board. All ages welcome. For the safety of our patrons, a swim test is required to use our slide and diving board. Deep Water Exercise Kick it up a notch with this low-impact, highenergy class. Class is primarily taught in deep water and a flotation belt is recommended. Equipment is provided on a first-come, firstserve basis. A Water Exercise Pass is needed for entry. Single Entry fee of $7. Water Exercise Work at your own pace and enjoy all the benefits of land exercise without the impact on your joints. This class is primarily taught in the shallow water and a Water Exercise Pass is needed for entry. Single Entry fee of $7. PV Swim Team Join the Pleasant Valley Swim Team. Cycling/Strength Training Ages: 13+ Location: Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center Instructor: Brian Smallwood Tu/Th 6:30-8pm $10 Drop-In, Multiple Entry Passes Available Build your cycling fundamentals and core strength related to cycling, running, walking, and swimming. This class is for beginners through advanced athletes. Classes will be based around work on the bike, but can include body weight strength exercises, running and or swimming. Required equipment: Bicycle, stationary bike trainer, proper shoes for cycling and running, sweat towels, exercise mat, and for certain designated classes swim gear. Rentals The Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center is available to rent on Saturdays and Sundays after 4pm and at various times throughout the week. Host your next swim meet, party or fundraiser with us. American Red Cross Courses CPR/AED/First Aid Adult and Child Ages: 15+ Cost: $120 Location: Community Center Learn how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants and to use an AED. Standard First Aid will teach you the basics on how to deal with hot/cold emergencies, shock, stroke awareness, and injuries such as cuts, bruises, chemical burns, heat burns and much more. Participants will be required to complete online portion prior to attending class. 7019.001 3-5pm Th 7/19 7019.002 3-5pm Th 8/16 Lifeguard Training & Title 22 Ages: 15+ Cost: $253 Instructor: Ann Wright Location: Pleasant Valley Aquatic Center Upon successful completion of this class you will be certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard with Title 22 First Aid. The following prerequisites will be tested at the pool on the first day of class: 300 yard swim, tread water without the use of hands, timed retrieval of a 10 lb. object from depth of 10+ feet, and other required skills. Participants will be required to complete online work in addition to completing all water skills. This is a blended learning course, online participation is required. A $39 fee is due to the American Red Cross prior to the start of the course. Prerequisites: Demonstrate Skills: swim 25 yards each of front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke, side stroke, elementary back stroke; 15 yards of butterfly; surface dive to 9 feet; forward dive from pool deck; tread water 2 minutes. 7019.030 4-8pm M-Th 6/18-6/21 7019.031 4-8pm M-Th 7/23-7/26 Diving Springboard Diving Ages: 5+ Instructor: Ann Wright Beginner: The first 20 minutes of class will be dryland, stretch, and basic tumbling work. 40 minutes in pool diving. Divers should wear shorts and t-shirt over suit for stretching/tumbling. Rash Guards & wetsuits are okay to keep warm. Any skill level accepted. Pre-Requisite: Must be able to swim five yards and tread water for 30 seconds. No Class 7/6. Advanced: The first 20-30 minutes of class will be stretches, core conditioning and tumbling. Divers should wear shorts and t-shirt over suit for stretching/tumbling. Rash Guards & wetsuits are okay to keep warm. Pre-Requisite: Must be able to perform forward dive with approach & hurdle, back dive, inward dive. The best part of the Specialty Aqua Missions is they reinforce safe diving skills while the kids are having fun. Preschool: Orientation to the Water Environment This is a child s first experience in a lesson without being accompanied by an adult. Songs, games, and activities help orient pre-school age children to the aquatic environment. Children learn basic aquatic skills while developing positive attitudes, good swimming habits and safe practices. Prerequisite: Students should be comfortable in the water without a parent and be able to sit on the steps.
