Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club www.smacswimming.com 2012 2013 TEAM HANDBOOK
Parents and Swimmers, Welcome to the Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club Welcome to the Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club (SMAC), the best USA Swimming program in the country under 100 athletes! On behalf of our Organization and current Membership, we are very happy to include you as part of our great program. The Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club is a great place for your children to get a well-rounded swimming experience and swimming education. We pride ourselves in the competitive success that we have had since the teamʼs induction in 2000, but also in the process and experience of child development that we offer your children each time they walk into the pool! My goal for every swimmer who passes through our program is to provide a positive and productive learning atmosphere, designed to bring the best out of everyone involved. We live in a very versatile world, and it is SMACʼs responsibility to prepare your children for life and young adulthood as much as it is for their competitive development in the sport of Swimming. SMAC has featured 3 previous Head Coaches, since its commencement in 2000. All of those coaches have added their particular flavor and style to what has become a tradition of excellence in the Waynesville Community. We have lots to be proud of, and look forward to in the sport of Swimming. In our 12 years, SMAC has produced thousands of personal best times, numerous State Champions, many Sectional Champions as well as Sectional Record holders. We have had the fastest swimmers in the Southeast, and some of the fastest in the Nation, for their age group. We currently have the State record holder in the 200 and 500 yard freestyles. Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club has qualified 10% of its team for Spring Junior Nationals a number not matched, ever, by any swim club in the country. We have qualified a swimmer for 18 and Under National Championships with more to come! money! Many coaches outside of SMAC have called us the best small team in the country, and they are right on the As your new Head Coach, I am looking forward to being a part in adding a few chapters onto the SMAC Tradition of Excellence. I am accessible to set up meetings to discuss your swimmers path with our club, or any other concerns you may have. Contacting me via email works best, but I am also available during my office hours for any necessary phone conversations. As Smoky Mountain Aquatic Clubʼs Head Coach, I welcome you and your family to the great sport of swimming, and to our team and organization. I look forward to working with you. Thanks and GO SMAC!!! Any sufficient evidence of this type of activity will bypass the 3-strike policy and the athlete/s involved will be immediately dismissed from the team. 2) LOCKER ROOM BEHAVIOR Good behavior is expected at all times. Horseplay and running in the locker rooms often results in injury, and a black eye on our relationship with the Waynesville Rec Center. PLEASE, before and after practices, get changed and move on. 1) NO PARENTS ON DECK DURING PRACTICE - Observing practice from the bleachers is fine, if that is your preference to do so. Our training time is crucial to success and must go with a little interruption as possible. If you have questions or concerns with anything, please wait until the conclusion of practice, or contact me via phone or email. I am happy to answer any questions at those times. - Exceptions: In case of emergency or by appointment. 2) Please allow your Coach to coach your children - This rule speaks for itself. Your Coach/es are highly trained and skilled at conducting workouts and critiquing racing strategy, stroke technique, and everything in the sport of competitive swimming. I assure you, I have a plan and a strategy for each one of our SMACers. If you have a question, please ask me. I will be glad to explain the what and why of how our program is designed. It is imperative that all swimming instruction comes from the Coach, for your swimmer/s to be as successful as possible. 3) BE A POSITIVE PART OF SMAC We are a constant representation of our Team and Community. At practice, wearing SMAC gear in public, on deck and in the stands at competitions, we must remember that at all times. At all times, members of SMAC are expected to conduct themselves in a well-behaved demeanor, and be a positive representative of SMAC. Officials, coaches, parents, and swimmers from other teams will notice the hot pink and black wherever we are. We take pride in that! All SMACers are expected to be a positive representation of the Smoky Mountain Aquatic Club.
