"THE THOMPSON LEGEND" Web address http://www.nfatoys.com/tsmg/tata $30.00/YR Vol. 24 On The Side Of Law And Order 4TH QTR 2011 copyrighted 2011 B/H Dist. 20TH ANNUAL ALL THOMPSON SHOW AND SHOOT GREAT TIME WHAT A PARTY!!!!!!!

2 20 YEARS OF FUN! BY Tracie Hill For twenty years it has been my family's pride and joy to host the "All Thompson Show and Shoot". From the beginning it was meant to be a fun, educational and family oriented event. My wife and I have always wanted attendees to bring their whole family, including children. This is the only way we can keep our hobby alive. The first Show and Shoot took place in August, 1992, with I think thirty-five total people attending. In those days, there was no TCA or TATA in existence. Heck the logo for the TCA didn't come about until 1998 and grew out of a design for the Show and Shoot (the British Combined Operation logo) not the other way around. The Show and Shoot logo changed years later when one of our members, Keith White, designed the Thompson fan logo which is still in use today on our commemorative coin (see front cover). Later on when TCA finally got organized, they like the American Thompson Association, provided insurance to the event, but that is all. I helped to create both organizations and I am proud of the American Thompson Associations and its high ethical standards for the hobby. The event has grown with our family too, with our two children jumping right into the event and even doing their own exhibits during the show. We even added on to the "Thompson Convention Center", our home, to make the event a success. The shoot has changed too. Originally, we only had the morning five stage shooting. Later, the afternoon steel plate competition was added. Finally, this year we even added a magazine change requirement to the steel plate to keep things fresh. My wife, Donna, has been and continues to be the driving force behind the Show and Shoot. Without her work and dedication the event would have ended years ago. But, she loves the event, because she claims that this is the only time I do things around the house to clean it up. She also claims that the Show and Shoot is really a birthday party for me, which she proved this year by presenting me with a birthday cake. The ATA also gave Donna and I a wonderful card and quilt as a gift for 20 years of fun. We look forward to the future!

THIS YEAR'S LECTURE GUNS OF THE SAINT VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE 3 LT. MIKE KLINE OF THE BERRIAN COUNTY, MICHI- GAN SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT THIS YEAR'S LECTURE WAS A PRESENTATION BY LT. MIKE KLINE, OF THE BERRIAN CO. SHRF. DEPT, MICHIGAN (ALSO A MEMBER OF TATA). MIKE GAVE A VERY PERSONAL LECTURE ON THE HISTORY AND RECOVERY OF THESE FIREARMS RECOVERED AFTER THE SHOOTING DEATH OF ONE OF THE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS. MIKE ALSO PROVIDED A WONDERFUL PERSONAL SIDE TO THE HISTORY OF THE AREA IN WHICH HE GREW UP AND HIS CONNECTION WITH THESE HISTORICAL ARMS.

4 THE SHOW DISPLAYS THEY SAY THAT A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS. WELL OVER THE TWENTY YEARS I AM SURE THAT I HAVE USED THE SAME WORDS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. BUT TO PUT A DISPLAY ON REALLY IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT. THE MEMBERS WHO PROVIDE THESE GREAT DISPLAYS ARE THE ONES THAT MAKE THIS "THE EVENT" IN THE THOMPSON HOBBY.

5

6 THE SHOOTS EACH YEAR I RUN IMAGES OF THE SHOOTING COMPETITIONS AND I FORGET TO MENTION THE PEOPLE IN THE ORANGE SHIRTS. THESE ARE THE WORKER BEES, THEY ARE THE RANGE SAFETY OFFICERS. AS YOU CAN SEE THEY DO THE HARD WORK OF MAKING A SAFE AND FUN ENVIRONMENT. HATS OFF TO YOU!

WITH A SAFE AND FUN SHOOT THE SMILES ARE EVERYWHERE. PLUS THEY DON'T COME OFF FOR MONTHS AFTERWARD. 7

8

9 DO THESE PEOPLE LOOK HAPPY? THIS IS THE KIND OF SMILE THAT YOU CANNOT TAKE OFF WITH SURGERY. THOUGH WE MAY TRY WITH SOME OF THEM (RIGHT TOM?). "BIG DADDY AND HIS GIRLS" ROBERT SEGEL, JENNIFER SEGEL, LAUREN PAJOT.

10 THE AWARDS DINNER EACH YEAR IS THE FIRST TIME DURING THE WHOLE EVENT THAT I GET TO RELAX AND ENJOY THE ATTENDEES. AWARDS: EACH PERSON WHO DID AN EXHIBIT THIS YEAR WAS PRESENTED WITH A PURE SILVER MEDALLION FOR "BEST EXHIBIT", AS I SAID BEFORE DOING AN EX- HIBIT IS SOMETHING EVERYONE SHOULD DO AND BE PROUD OF YOUR HOBBY. MORNING FIVE STAGE WINNERS 1.) JAMES GILRONAN 94/100 2.) ERIC WANK 90/100 STEEL PLATE COMPETITION WINNERS 1.) TOM DAVIS 2.) C.J. ROBERTS Many THANKS to Robert Segel for providing the images used in this newsletter and for giving the winners names twice after I lost it twice. Editor
