HASKELL COUNTY 4-H NEWS K-State Research and Extension January 2018 Volume 18 Issue 1 New and Returning 4-H Families We are very excited about the 2018 4-H Year and our 4-H program! We hope that you enjoy Haskell County 4-H as much as we do! Please read and review all the information listed in the monthly newsletters, as well check out the Haskell County Web Page at http://www.haskell.k-state.edu we will be updating and adding new pages. The information will be very beneficial and help you with your 4-H projects. If you have any questions just ask! Contact your club leader or us here at the office! Winter Weather and 4-H Activities Our 4-H Weather Policy is If school cancels for weather, 4-H events are canceled too! Please check our website, contact your Leader, or the person in charge of your event, if you are in doubt about the status of the event. Also check for information posted on the Haskell County 4-H Facebook page. Citizenship in Action Registration for Citizenship In Action (CIA) is now available at www.kansas4 -H.org. Youth13-19 by January 1 of the current year are eligible to attend. The purpose of this event is for Kansas youth to learn how the state legislative process works and how their voice and participation in decision-making can make a difference in their local communities. CIA will take place in Topeka on February 19-20, 2017 I pledge my HEAD to clearer thinking my HEART to greater loyalty my HANDS to larger service and my HEALTH to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world. Box 580 Sublette, KS 67877 620-675-2261 Fax: 620-675-8774 hs@listserv.ksu.edu Horse Panorama The 2018 Horse Panorama will be held on January 26th 28th. 4-H Members ages 7-18 and adult volunteers are welcomed to attend. Horse Panorama is a compilation of various contests related to the Horse Project. Contests include: quiz bowl, hippology, public speaking presentations, photography and educational posters. There will also be educational activities for 4-Hers of all ages. The registration form and more information may be found at www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/conferencesevents/horse/index.html. County Project Leaders are Needed! We need YOU to share your time and talents with the 4-H youth of Haskell County! Project leaders coordinate workshops, answer individual questions, and provide guidance in their project areas. If you would like to be involved with our 4-H youth, please give us a call at the Extension Office 620-675-2261. County Club Day Registration Deadline Wednesday January 10th If you have any questions, please feel free to give the Extension Office a call. County Club Day Contest The 4-H Club that has the most participants at county club day will receive a PIZZA PARTY at the monthly 4-H meeting. These participants must participate in an individual activity to count. Club participation will not count. Remember County Club day is Sunday, January 21st. Regional Club Day Those qualifying during County Club Day participation plan for Regional Club Day activities February 24th in Sublette. Shooting Sports Practice Practice times for BB gun will be every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month - The first session will begin at 5:30pm and the second at 7:00pm. Air Rifle practice will be every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month - The session will begin at 6:00pm. All practices will be in the basement of the Extension Office. Area KAP Record Book Screening If you are 14 or older and a county champion in a project, you are eligible to send your KAP Record Book to Area KAP screening on January 19, 2017. Make the suggested changes and turn a book in, following the KAP rules, for each project you want to be judged in. The books need to be in the Extension Office by 5:00 p.m. on January 18th. Come by the office if you need help or for helpful suggestions! Citizenship Washington Focus 2018 There are still several spots left to attend the 2018 Citizenship Washington Focus trip! This is a great opportunity for youth to visit their Nation's Capitol, visit with the legislators and participate in Citizenship Washington Focus at National 4-H Headquarters. We encourage you to sign up sooner rather than later as spots are going quickly! Southwest Youth Leadership Forum Time is running out to register for this years event in Dodge City at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. You must register by Wednesday January 10th. The fee is $25.00. The theme this year is Leadership Through the Ages. You will register through Cvent and make payment to the Extension Office. Southwest 4-H Volunteer Leadership Forum Calling all Leaders and Volunteers, join us for a chance to meet other 4-hH Volunteers from Southwest Kansas! This event is held in conjunction with the 4-H youth Leadership Forum. Come share your success, learn more about foundations of 4-H youth development and take home new programming ideas to your local 4-H program. Registration fee is $25 and the deadline is January 10th. You will register through Cvent and make payment to the Extension office. Junior Sheep Producer Day & Junior Beef Producer Day This is a fantastic educational opportunity for anyone interested in getting involved with swine and/or meat goats Mark your calendars today! Kansas 4-H Scholarship Applications Get an early start on your application for the 2018 application for the Kansas 4-H Scholarship by visiting www.kansas4-h.org. 4-H & Open Rabbit Show Its just around the corner do not forget the Rabbit Show sponsored by the Haskell County 4-H Rabbit Club. The show is on January 27th, 2018. Rules and registration information can be found on the attached flyer. Everyone come and enjoy the show.
