Some of my favorite Mack Lures presentations. by John Clark Below are just a few ways in which Mack Lures has increased my catch. Some of our club members got their hands on Mack's new Line Tamer. These new line containers work great on keeping line in the boat. The line tamer keeps the line out of sunlight which damages line after exposed to sunlight for long periods of time. The line tamer also has a line cutter on it so to don t need to carry extra cutter. For those of you that like to spool up your on reels the line tamer makes this job easier for one person to do by their selves. The line tamer has an internal spring inside that keeps tension on the line as it is coming out of the container. All you need to do is place to line tamer between your knees or feet and you will have no trouble spooling you on line without the hassle of line twist. When I use live bait tactics I like to use several Mack lures products as my components. I start by tying a USA Chain Swivel to the end of my spinning reel line. I then use the line tamer that is filled with 8lb Fluorocarbon line for my leader line. I usually pull my live bait behind a small walking sinker that is tight to the bottom. Above the swivel I attach a sliding walking sinker then a bead. The bead helps keep the walking sinker from beating against the knot at the swivel and making it weak. The size weight I use depends on a lot of factors. If I m up in front of the boat running the trolling motor I prefer a ¼ ounce weight for five foot or less. When fishing 15 foot to five foot I use 3/8 walking sinker. 15 foot on down I use a 1 ounce to 2 ounce walking sinker. Now if I m in the back of the boat I prefer the let out more line. For 5 foot or less I use 1/8 to 1/16 ounce of weight. 5 foot to 10 foot I use 1/8 to ¼ ounce walking sinker. 15 foot and deeper I use ¼ to 3/8 th ounce walking sinkers. All these weight I mention are for slow trolling, when the fish decide they want it faster I just go up in weight bye one size. On the very end of my live bait rig I tie a number 2 or a number 4 hook. Sometimes I add the newer size 0.8 smile blade in front of the hook so that I might turn a slow bite into a fast bite. Another thing I like to use instead of a plain hook is Mack Lure Red Series Glow Hooks or the Glow hook Sparkle Tail Series. These two hooks have caught as many fish if not more fish than the plain hook does. For those of you that don t like to tie your own rigs. Mack Lure has the Slither Rig, which has everything you need for live bait rigging including a flexible slither weight and a quick release weight clevis. The weight clevis makes it easier to change you weights on the go without having to cut your line. I m a big fan and truly loved it when Mack s introduced more Mirror colors for the smile blade. In addition to the Motor Oil Mirror color is Chartreuse, Red, Blue, Flame, Purple, and Hot Pink. I m a big fan of the mirror colors because I believe they have a lot of flash to them. I m not saying that the other colors don t produce a flash. It is my belief that the mirror colors work great in stained to muddy water. Ohio has several lakes that are stained most of the time and are shallow with an average depth of 8ft. These lakes that have shallow depth tend to muddy the water faster with any wind or rain. Another great place to use these blades with supreme flash is Lake Erie. I know I said mirror blades work well in muddy to stained water, but they also work well on the great lakes. The reason they work so well on Lake Erie is the walleyes may be in the 30 foot of water column, and they will come up in the 10 foot or less water column to attach their prey and feed. Lake Erie is usually very clean water with water clarities reaching 20 feet. I believe these fish ambush their prey by hanging out in the deeper water where their prey can t see them. Remember fish don t look down. When they see the flash of baitfish swimming way above their heads something triggers them to attach the flash and eat their prey. This concept is also why I like to run a Hot Wing about 3 feet in front of my spinner rigs and crank baits. I have personally found that the hot wings have increased my fish numbers and helped me catch more fish than I caught before. I have experimented with these Hot Wings since Mack Lures first brought them out. What I did was run the exact baits on all my rods. I would put the Hot Wings on 50% of my rods. What I have found is that there were times when the Hot Wings greatly out fished the rods without the Hot Wings. Then there were times Both Rods with and without Hot Wings produced the same. I can t explain why the Hot Wings worked when they did except that they were what the fish wanted that day. Weather, wind, sun, cloud cover, boat speed, and lure presentation didn t seem to matter when they liked the Hot Wings or not. What I found out was the bottom line was that there were times when the Hot Wings increased my fish catching numbers, and in the same note. I couldn t find a time where they hurt my catching numbers. This is why I always run a Hot Wing in front of my spinner rigs, crank baits, and spoons when I fish any of the Great Lakes. These are just a few of the different Mack Lures products that have helped me increase my catch. I hope you give some of them a try to increase your catch.

Now I ll leave you with some ravings from the Mad Angler This is an actual emergency room photo of a fisherman who lost control of his High Speed Bass Boat in West Virginia The warden's believe that he was traveling at a speed of approximately 75 mph at the time of the accident. He was unable to negotiate a curve in the narrow waterway and unfortunately for him, upon striking the shoreline, he was ejected from the boat and landed on an old fence post. You can probably picture what happened next, but this photograph really says it all. The good news is after about 6 months, this man made a full recovery after suffering a shattered hip, broken leg, several broken ribs, internal injuries and soft tissue damage. The doctors credited his recovery to the fact that the post lodged itself so tightly that there was little or no blood loss. Now, that's got to hurt!

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE 4 tablespoons flour 4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons cocoa 1 egg 3 tablespoons milk 3 tablespoons oil 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) A small splash of vanilla extract 1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe) Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). The guys were all at a fishing camp. No one wanted to room with Bob, because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns. The first guy slept with Bob and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. They said, 'Man, what happened to you? He said, 'Bob snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night.' The next night it was a different guy's turn. In the morning, same thing hair all standing up, eyes all bloodshot. They said, 'Man, what happened to you? You look awful!' He said, 'Man, that Bob shakes the roof with his snoring. I watched him all night.' The third night was Pete's turn. Pete was a big burly ex-navy man; a man's man. The next morning he came to breakfast bright eyed and bushy tailed. 'Good morning,' he said. Th ld 't b li it! Th id 'M h t

May is ending and June is upon us. Alum Creek is next June 7 th at the Cheshire ramp. Give John your support since I won t be there. Mercedes my daughter is graduating and the date was moved to June, 7 th so priorities put this above fishing. (That s directly from the wife s mouth) Any way if you can pitch in and help out it would be appreciated. As it is June coming up get out to the area lakes. All bets are off and this is the time to work on your presentations. Fish are more readily willing to take any bait as their metabolism increases and lets say your weak point is using jigging spoons. This is the time to use them and get used to different presentation using only spoons. Or if your not real great at working breaklines, now is the time to put that Mack s Lure spinners on and work shallow to deep staying on a certain depth with trolling motor and learning to turn back on fish using both depth finder and GPS to mark and stay. How about working jigs in weedbeds, they are coming up and it s a good time to learn spot casting. The list goes on but this is the month to get out and practice. Well till C.J. happy fishing.
