Cattle and, Sheep BAKEWELL MARKET MONDAY 7 TH MAY 2018 With temperatures reaching the mid 20 s there was a decent turn out of stock for the May Bank Holiday Monday. The entry of 264 Store & Breeding Cattle made it well worthwhile for regular buyers to travel to Bakewell and run the gauntlet of the Bank Holiday traffic. Trade was just as warm as the prevailing weather with Stores to 1,215, Heifers to 1,220 and Feeding Bulls to 935. Top call for the nice selection of Cows and Calves was 1,650. Finished Cattle were somewhat thin on the ground with only 32 forward. The best on offer reached 229p and 1,458 so nothing wrong with the trade. The OTM and Feeding Cattle department mustered 38 head with top figures of 177p and 1,539. The overall average looking particularly healthy at 135.9p In the Calf section there were 31 on offer with Bulls to 360 and Heifers to 295. Turning to the Sheep Department the Spring Lamb entry was 132 with the best on offer to 340p and 145, the SQQ average a creditable 310.8p. Despite Hogg numbers drying up fast a total of 893 found their way to Bakewell and sold very well indeed with maximum figures of 295p and 135.70. The SQQ average was 238p and the overall 233p. Finally, there were 479 Cull Sheep on offer with entries peaking at 154 to return a decent average of 82.76.
