Prep roundup: Hart leads Whitefield Academy past St. Francis in overtime Staff reports Jan 31, 2017 Isaiah Hart scored 43 points as Whitefield Academy beat St. Francis 79-74 in overtime Tuesday to bring the top of Region 6A (B) into a virtual deadlock. Up five at halftime, Whitefield (16-7, 11-1) was unable to finish St. Francis (20-4, 12-1) off in regulation. Hart added five rebounds, five assists and five steals, while Jimmy McCarthy had 14 points and nine rebounds. Whitefield has two region games remaining home games with Pinecrest Academy on Friday and Walker on Saturday as it looks to secure the subregion s No. 1 seed. St. Francis has just one region game left, hosting Fellowship Christian on Friday. The teams lone region losses came against one another, in the other s home gym. Osborne 73, Sequoyah 64: Latrell Tate had 29 points to lead the Cardinals to a Region 6AAAAAA victory. After the score was knotted at 18-all at the end of the first quarter, Osborne pulled away in the second by outscoring the Chiefs 21-16. Kaylan Davis was also in double figures with 15 points.

The Cardinals will host South Cobb on Friday. Harrison 69, Sprayberry 47: The Hoyas opened with a 17-4 first-quarter run to pull away for a victory. The win most likely secures the fourth seed for Harrison in the Region 6AAAAAA tournament next week. Tate Coston had 31 to lead Harrison (14-10, 9-5 Region 6AAAAAA). Chris Brown finished with 15 and A.J. Shaw was also in double figures with 10. Rodney Pearson led Sprayberry with 16 points. North Cobb Christian 71, Christian Heritage 41: Demiere Brown scored 26 points including the 1,000th of his career and pulled down 10 rebounds to help lead the Eagles to a Region 6A rout. North Cobb Christian (21-3, 13-0) outscored Christian Heritage 35-11 over the second and third quarters to break the game open. Will Crumly finished the night with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, Chas Savage had 10 points and Mo Merritt added three points, eight rebounds and six blocks. The Eagles travel to Gordon Lee on Friday. Mount Paran Christian 56, Walker 50: The Eagles started forcing turnovers in the second half after trailing by 13 at the break and outscored Walker 34-15 to seal the Region 6A win. Holt Shannon led Mount Paran with 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds, and DeQuon Pope added 12 points and five rebounds. The Eagles (13-8, 8-5) will host Mount Pisgah on Friday.

Loganville Christian 64, Dominion Christian 51: The Knights were outscored 24-11 in the second quarter and it proved to be the difference. Ben Kimbrell and Whit Cooney each scored 13 points for Dominon (3-13). The Knights host Holy Spirit on Friday. Shiloh Hills Christian 49, Horizon Christian 47: Dayne Bleck s breakaway layup with 2 seconds remaining proved to be the difference as Shiloh Hills downed last year s GICAA Division I champions. Jordan Ratliff, who had eight points and 10 rebounds, recorded a steal on Horizon s final possession to seal the win. Kennedy Rogers totaled 18 points and six steals for the Challengers (9-8, 5-1 GICAA Division I), who are tied for first in the region with Horizon. Shiloh Hills hosts Mountain Area on Friday to close out the regular season. Girls Basketball Marietta 63, Hillgrove 57: Tatiana Foster shot 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, allowing the Lady Blue Devils to hold on and clinch the No. 2 seed of Region 3AAAAAAA and an automatic state playoff berth. Marietta (19-5, 7-2) was led Hillgrove (14-8, 6-3) by three at halftime, but its lead was whittled down to zero heading into the fourth quarter. Taylor Smith scored a game-high 25 points, hitting a pair of key 3-pointers in the fourth, while Foster finished with 18 points for Marietta, which will host North Paulding on Friday.

Destinee Webster scored 17 for Hillgrove, which is now assured of the No. 3 seed and will play at McEachern on Friday. North Cobb 49, North Paulding 46: Sidney Solomon scored 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help lead the Lady Warriors to a Region 3AAAAAAA victory. Shay Simpson had 13 points and eight rebounds and Alberta Walker added 11 points. North Cobb (15-9, 2-7) travels to Kennesaw Mountain on Friday. Campbell 44, Newnan 40: After trailing 33-25 at the end of the third quarter, Campbell outscored Newnan 19-7 in the final quarter to win the Region 2AAAAAAA game. Jadyn Rice scored nine points with six rebounds for Campbell (10-14, 3-6), while senior Jordan Hamilton had 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals. Rice and Hamilton combined to make six fourth-quarter free throws to help the Lady Spartans prevail. Senior Kalyn Jaxson added five points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Campbell is at Westlake on Friday. St. Francis 83, Whitefield Academy 29: Laren VanArsdale scored 24 points, but it was not enough for the Lady Wolfpack in the Region 6A road game. Whitefield (7-13, 3-7) will host Pinecrest Academy on Friday. Loganville Christian 29, Dominion Christian 23: The Lady Knights couldn t overcome a scoreless first quarter and fell to Loganville Christian. Rachel Raines had 12 points for Dominion (2-16).
