T prmte psitive schl climate Althugh the primary purpse f the cheerleaders/dancers is t act as a spirit grup, they may participate in n mre than six cmpetitins during the calendar schl year fr the purpse f develping and imprving cheerleading/dancing skills, prmting team spirit and unity, and rewarding teams wh have actively prmted the primary purpse f cheer/dance in Brken Arrw Public Schls. Philsphy: Spirit teams will serve as an effective means t build an active, chesive, supprtive and enthusiastic student bdy at schl athletic events and prmtins. Spirit teams will prmte psitive schl spirit thugh building schl spirit and unity. Spirit teams will display teamwrk by wrking with thers nt nly n the team but als in ther rganizatins. Spirit teams will achieve success by mtivatin, time management and gal setting. Spirit teams will shw sprtsmanship by displaying desirable scial traits. Spirit teams will set persnal gals. Spirit teams will achieve persnal health habits such as nutritin, exercises/fitness, stress management and persnal hygiene. Obligatins: TIME: The amunt f time required f spirit team members will vary frm seasn t seasn thrughut the year. Activities ther than practice and game time will be invlved in the time cmmitment. Academics are ur first pririty. Spirit team cmmitment will cme befre all ther activities. Spirit team members will be given a minimum f ne (1) week ntice fr all required practices, games and events. When ne (1) week ntice is nt given, attendance is nt mandatry, but strngly suggested. Schl apprved activities such as Natinal Hnrs Sciety r Student Cuncil events may be excused prviding the cach is ntified f the cnflict prir t the practice, game r event.
Spirit team members are allwed 3 excused absences (such as family emergency, illness family wedding, etc. ) withut penalty prviding the cach is ntified f the cnflict prir t the practice, game r event. An absence may be excused if the cach is ntified prir t the missed event and if the event culd nt be helped. A dctr s nte must be prvided if the member cannt participate due t illness/injury. If injured, spirit team members must prvide a dctr s release befre they can return t spirit practices, games r events. Spirit team members will be given the fllwing cnsequences fr unexcused absences: 1 st Make-up wrkut 2 nd Make-up wrkut r benched frm an event 3 rd Benched fr the next event 4 th Cnference with the Cach, Spirit Crdinatr and Athletic Directr Make-up wrkuts must be cmpleted within ne week f the absence. Members cannt participate until make-up requirements are cmpleted. Excessive absences may result in remval frm the team. Behavir: All schl rules apply t when a member is in unifrm r attending an activity while representing Brken Arrw Schls. The ntriety f being a spirit team member places an additinal burden n the student. Members represent their schl at all times bth in and ut f unifrm. As a result, the student can anticipate being held t a higher standard f behavir by ur cmmunity. It is extremely imprtant that members be aware f the fact and be willing t cnduct themselves accrdingly. High Schl cheerleaders/dancers will cheer/perfrm at designated Varsity, JV, and freshmen events. 8 th grade cheerleaders will cheer at all hme ftball and basketball games (excluding turnaments). 8 th grade dancers will perfrm as designated hme ftball and basketball games. The majr events include; ftball games, basketball games, wrestling matches and any turnaments designated by the Spirit Crdinatr r Athletic Directr(s). After the regular seasn ends, all cheerleaders/dancers will participate in ther activities as directed by the Caches/Spirit Crdinatr. Senir cheerleaders/dancers will be respnsible fr teaching the tryut requirements. Cnsequences fr Vilatin f Team Rules: Specific Cnsequences fr Vilatin f Duties and Rules Cheerleader r dancer will be suspended frm a squad upn the third ffense: Late fr practice r game Untidy unifrm
Imprper attire Uncperative attitude r behavir Prfane language r bscene gestures Unsprtsmanlike manner r attitude Public display f affectin Actins may result in the remval frm a squad: Any act r deed that harms the reputatin f the schl r squad Smking, drinking r use f any illegal substance Uncperative attitude r behavir Vilatin f any schl rule Failure t maintain the OSSAA regulatins Leaving during a game Cutting classes Remval frm the squad will be determined by the Cach and apprved by Spirit Crdinatr and Athletic Directr Actins that will result in remval frm the squad: Any f the abve suspensins Failure t meet the OSSAA regulatins Eligibility Rules: T be eligible t be a cheerleader/dancer in Brken Arrw Schl, the fllwing requirements must be met: 1. OSSAA eligibility requirements grades will be checked n a weekly basis. 2. Cheerleaders /Dancers must maintain an acceptable cde f cnduct t remain n the squad. If cheerleaders/dancers are drpped frm the squad due t disciplinary reasns, r eligibility that persn will nt be eligible t try ut fr cheerleader/dancer fr the next year unless apprved by the Spirit Crdinatr and the Athletic Directr. 3. Cheerleaders/Dancers may nt participate in ther activities, which will cnflict with cheerleading/dancing respnsibilities. Chices f activities ne wishes t pursue must be made at tryut time. If there are extenuating circumstances, the cheerleader/dancer may appeal t the Spirit Crdinatr and Athletic Directr wh will make the final decisin. Unifrm and Equipment /Prps: Cheerleader/Dancers are respnsible fr their wn unifrm cleaning and repairs. Unifrms must be dry cleaned befre they are returned at the end f the schl year. (Senirs will be given a unifrm chsen by the Cach and Spirit Crdinatr - t keep at the end f their senir year)
Unifrms purchased by the schl district will remain prperty f the schl district. Unifrms shuld be wrn nly t schl events and are nt allwed t be laned t anyne else. Unifrms t be wrn t an activity will be decided by the Captains and the Cach. Any part f the unifrm prvided by the schl must be returned at the end f the schl year when requested by the cach. If a unifrm is permanently altered r damaged in any way, the cheerleader/dancer is respnsible t pay the cst f the replacement piece. When in unifrm, at summer camp r teaching clinics, cheerleaders/dancers may nt have n jewelry, excessive make-up, distracting nail plish r chewing gum. Hair must be pulled up and ut f the face. Hair cannt be tuching shulders unless part f perfrmance cstume. Dancers may wear apprpriate jewelry as part f the required unifrm. Transprtatin: When transprtatin is prvided fr an ut-f-twn event by the Athletic Dept., attendance is mandatry. Attendance is nt required at ut-f-twn games when the schl des nt prvide transprtatin. Under special circumstances, if parents ntify the cach/spnsr by email 24 hurs befre the event, then they may ride with their parents. Cheerleaders/Dancers will nt be allwed t ride with anyne ther than a guardian even with parent cnsent. Participatin in special events will be dependent n the team s ability t raise funds. Grading Plicy: A zer daily grade will be given fr unexcused absences. Grades will be based n a ttal number f pints earned fr each semester. Pints will be given fr the fllwing: Practice 20 pints per day Dressed ut practice (practice attire, hair up, shes) 5 pints N Gum / Candy r Jewelry 5 pints Participatin 10 pints Games 60 pints Game Evaluatin: Must have all f the fllwing t receive pints-
