PRESS KIT Week 27 Date & Time Sunday, March 01, 2015-21:00 Stadium Stade Louis II 02/26/2015 - Ligue de Football Professionnel - 2014/2015 - Ligue1.com

PREVIEW : AS MONACO - PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN Feature Preview AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain will put their Champions League ambitions to one side on Sunday when they meet at the Stade Louis II with three precious Ligue 1 points at stake. After Paris had secured a 1-1 first-leg draw with Chelsea in their last 16 tie the previous week, Monaco produced a brilliant display in winning 3-1 at Arsenal on Wednesday evening. The principality club, fourth coming into the weekend, face a battle to squeeze onto the Ligue 1 podium, though, as they seek the top-three finish that will bring them Champions League football next season. Paris have their sights set on a third successive French crown, but defending their title promises to be a bigger-than-expected challenge with Olympique Lyonnais continuing to keeping their noses out in front. Paris did move to the top of the table thanks to their 3-1 win over Toulouse FC last Saturday but then saw OL retake first place with their defeat of FC Nantes 24 hours later. With Olympique de Marseille stumbling to a draw, Paris did claim second spot for themselves, and their overall display at the Parc des Princes confirmed their improved form of recent weeks. "We started as if we wanted to win. Tactically, and in terms of aggression, both in attack and defence, we were good. We took advantage of the chances we had in the game, that's good. I'm happy with the three points," said defender Marquinhos before playing tribute to fellow Brazilian and Paris captain, Thiago Silva. "For me, he was the man of the match. He was really fantastic. He scored, he defence, he won every ball. I'm really happy for him. Players have good and bad spells, that's normal. Right now, he's in top form, full of confidence, and I'm very happy about that." Injured early in the campaign and then criticised for displays below his usual stratospherically high standards, Silva has in recent weeks - like his team-mates - exhibited the qualities that had him billed 'the world's best defender', and he even scored Paris' game-clinching third against Toulouse. "That will give him more confidence, but his recent performances have been excellent," said Paris coach Laurent Blanc, who once again leapt to the defence of his 30-year-old centre-back. "What annoys me is that people make assumptions when a player isn't confident and is playing to his full potential. Thiago Silva isn't a young player, he's not a child. We know what he's capable of. The World Cup in Brazil was a disappointment he had to get over, but to doubt his potential was unfair and he needed help rather than being put down. He's becoming the player he was once again." Following their midweek exertions, Monaco would surely have preferred to meet a less formidable opponent, but Leonardo Jardim's men have proven themselves particularly tenacious adversaries of late, not least at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. Their Week 24 defeat to En Avant Guingamp, where Paris suffered their first league defeat of the season just before Christmas, brought to an end an eight-game unbeaten run, and they bounced back with a 1-0 win over Mediterranean neighbours OGC Nice last week despite having Aymen Abdennour sent off late in the first half. "Nice made a great start, but after the 25th-minute, we controlled the game," said Jardim, who saw Bernardo Silva score a late winner 02/26/2015 Ligue de Football Professionnel - 2014/2015 - Ligue1.com 2

at the Allianz Rivieira. "We played really well in the second half. It was difficult to play with ten against 11, but we played well. Our opponents didn't have any big chances." - HISTORY: Paris Saint-Germain have won only three of their 38 Ligue 1 visits to AS Monaco. - Monaco are unbeaten in four home league games with Paris (2W 2D). - Paris' last league win in Monaco came in Week 8 of the 2007-08 season. Javier Pastore (8') put Paris in front, but Thiago Silva's own-goal (74') earned the hosts a point.
