The Appeals Committee was the original committee of the RYA, founded in 1947. Its functions have expanded considerably, and is now called Racing Rules Committee.
Regular business in 2016: 15 appeal cases decided 3 new cases added to the RYA Case Book 31 enquiries received and answered (usually within a day or so) by the Racing Rules Advisory Service, as well as informal responses to telephone enquiries at the rate of 1-2 per week 4 submissions to the November World Sailing Conference 2 new RYA Racing Rules Guidances published at the end of the year o Changes to the Racing Rules from January 2017 o Support Persons
Additional business in 2016: Preparation of material and proofing for the new RYA Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 book (YR1) and Handy Guide to the Racing Rules 2017-2020 (YR7) starting on July 1, with the printed books to be available at the Southampton Boat Show in September. This included also updating, revising: o The RYA prescriptions to the rules. o The RYA Racing Charter. o The recommended Risk Statement. Updating all cases in the RYA Case Book by the end of the year. Updating all 34 RYA Racing Rules Guidances by the end of the year. Updating the popular RYA Rules and Cases ebook, previously available from the RYA Books app and which has now been subsumed in an agreement with World Sailing. This also now includes the RYA Racing Rules Guidances as well as the RYA Case Book. Production of an RYA Racing Rules Guidance booklet in both pdf and ebook format, the latter available as a free download to the RYA Books and World Sailing rules apps.
