Mourne way marathon 2017 final competitor information We hope all your training and preparation for the Mourne Way events on 10th June 2017 has gone well. We have a few announcements to make in relation to ALL events. It is IMPORTANT that you read all the information in this document. We put this information together to maintain your safety and the safety of our team on the route, not to hamper your enjoyment of the event, and it s important that we all keep it in mind! kit requirments Kit requirements are listed on the website under the FAQ section (www.mournewaymarathon. com) all kit is recommended (not mandatory) please use common sense when preparing for the event. Please do not sacrifice your health or wellbeing for a faster time by not carrying appropriate kit & hydration for this event as it is in mountainous terrain and not a road race. There is also a lot of other information contained on the website take time to read through it. weather As recent weather has been exceptionally warm the temperature is starting to fall and the weekend of the event is looking that will be mild, possibly wet, however there is still room for change. In light of recent weather, sunscreen is advisable. Weather for Saturday is giving 60% chance of showers, a high of 18 degrees and a SSW maximum wind of 22kmph. We also advise the use of an electrolyte during the event to ensure proper hydration you can purchase Dioralyte from the chemist in sachet form which is easily transported, or use a sports specific product such as NUUN, Hi-5 or SiS. 26Extreme sell NUUN tabs and we will have these available at Pack Collection. We would also advise that you take insect repellent if you are intending on hanging about Kilbroney Park after the event. There will be food stalls at the finish line and we hope to have a festival atmosphere all day. car pooling and parking Car parking will be clearly signposted and all participants MUST park in the designated car parking in Kilbroney Park, and please note there will be no exit until 2pm Competitors can use the Mountain Bike Car Park but please refrain from using the Café/children s play park Car Parking area. If you park in the village, please do not obscure driveways, and please do not move any cones which may have been placed there, as we require a lot of space on Cloughmor Road for Buses to park up so that the village does not become overly congested. We have been inundated with entries over the last week and would ask as many folk to car pool if possible. PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY ON THE GRASSY AREA THAT IS BEING USED FOR PARKING AT KILBRONEY PARK. In the event of rain, we urge competitors to park with consideration of the above factors and walk to the registration area in Kilbroney Park.
marshalls Please also remember that the Marshals are there to keep things moving for all who will become involved on the day be it runners, spectators or those just passing through. The marshals play a vital role in the delivery of this event and without them it wouldn t happen! pack collection Pack Collection will commence as detailed below. PLEASE don t come to us early as we may not be able to accommodate you before the times detailed below and refusal often offends. EVENT Location D at e Times All Events 26 HQ, The Square, Warrenpoint Friday 9th June 5-8pm Ultra 5:30-5:50am Closes 7am Closes 10:30am Half Closes 1pm 10k Closes 2pm Your race entry will include your bib, chip and a Moureway branded buff. * It is VERY IMPORTANT to collect your pack on time and during the appropriate time slot as bus transport will be departing for the start location of each event once the pack collection for that event closes. Please arrive early and allow plenty of time to register, have a cup of coffee or tea and chat to fellow competitors about what lies ahead! You will only have to give your surname at pack collection and you will then be given your race number and timing chip. In the pack there will be a wristband for you to write your personal information on. We advise all to fill these in to speed up information to emergency crews if required. This wristband will be cut off when you claim your free burger at the end, so please ensure you fill it in and wear it. Late entries Late entries will be handled on a first come first serve basis. We have limited packs for each event. NB: - IF YOU HAVE COLLECTED YOUR RACE PACK you do not need to report to Kilbroney park before the event again. Many of you have transport to the starting lines, and by all means, for the marathon we do not mind that, however, for the half marathon, we recommend all runners avail of the bus to avoid congestion on the high mountain route.
Chip timing Your Timing Chip is a BibTag chip from Jaguar Timing NI. On the back of your race bib there will be a timing chip inside a foam casing. It is disposable and does not need to be returned. However, it must be treated with somewhat more care than a shoe tag. If you are folding your bib, it is imperative that you do not fold the chip as this may damage it and prevent it from being read by the system. If you are considering trimming your bib to place on shorts, please ensure you do not trim any part of the foam casing. Please also ensure that once you have finished the event that you move quickly away from the readers as they are extremely sensitive and will record your chip even after you have finished. Failure to comply with these guidelines will delay accurate results and may render your result inaccurate. water We will have water available in cups and large canisters at feed stations and we have decided not to give out bottles. Competitors normally carry a bottle for a period of time whilst drinking out of it then discard it we cannot allow this in this event as littering on the trail cannot and will not be tolerated. If you lift a cup please drop it soon after drinking from it. We do not want plastic cups littered all over the mountainside. If you need to discard of waste, please do so at the feed-station points along the route only. Anyone seen to be littering the course will be disqualified. facilities There are NO toilet facilities at the start lines of the half marathon, 10k, & 5k, so competitors MUST use the facilities before boarding the bus to the start. We strong urge you all to not publicly urinate at the start lines we have videographers and photographers at these locations and it s not very nice... There are no shower facilities. ultra drop bags Ultra runners are also able to bring a drop bag and leave it with the event organisers you can put food, gels, spare socks, etc in this and it will be transported to the halfway point for you and back to the finish at the end of the event. Please ensure that you or someone that you nominate collects your drop bag from the event registration tent before you leave, as we cannot be held responsible for lost property post race and all bags will be disposed of. Drop bags will all come back at once, and they will be brought back when the back marker passes that point and not before, so if you are planning on a super fast ultra, it is advisable that your drop bag contents are disposable, or you can wait for the marshal to transport them back to finish line. Our team cannot speed the delivery of them up. leave no trace policy Please take all the rubbish you create (gel/bar/sweet wrappers etc) with you to the finish line or drop it in the bags provided at the Water Stations. We cannot tolerate any littering on the mountain whatsoever and your cooperation would be greatly appreciated in this matter. the route We will be re-routing the and Ultra aong the Granite Trail to cut out the portion of the run where a buzzard who is roosting is nesting to avoid any potential injuries to runners. This will result in the marathon & Ultra marathon events to be slightly shorter than advertised, but this is completely out of our control. use of headphones All the Mourne Way events will use a small stretch of road, some twice, some two stretches they are: - Slievenamann Road to Kilkeel Road (Hilltown side) and Sandbank Road above Leitrim Lodge. It is important to remember that these roads are OPEN for traffic. Runners should run along the edge in single file, apart from at the start of the half marathon and 1k events where we will hold traffic for a few short minutes. While on these stretches of road, we advice all runners and walkers to avoid the use of headphones so that they can hear traffic, and marshal advice. This is to ensure safe passage of event crew and emergency services.
