International Korean First Grade Students Laptop, recycled materials, television, Skype, Korean Children, Kid's College For our student leadership class, our student council made children's books made out of recycled materials the children's book taught life lessons. We put the books to good use by reading them to Korean kids through Skype network. At around six pm our time and seven am their time, we Skyped them to start reading the books. We showed them the pictures and even let them read the books themselves. After reading, we asked questions about the books too see if they understood. It was a big success and most importantly they got to learn English.

Kempner High School Barbara Hoffman barbara.hoffman@fbisd.k12.tx.us List other applicable categories: Date: 11/28/2011-12/2/2011 Beauty Week To encourage the student body to accept their beauty and individuality by spreading love and pride through our student body through acts of kindness and activities. Kempner Student Body and Faculty Clothes pins, student council members, beauty week T-Shirts, Sticky Notes, student body. Beauty Week is a week long activity to spread love and pride within your school. The first day is "Bum Day" where every student is encouraged to wear sweat pants and t- shirts to school to explain how you can be beautiful by wearing anything. The next day students cover the bathroom mirrors with inpiring messges like "You are beautiful" or "You're lookin' good today, cutie!" to explain to others that always looking in the mirror to try to make yourself look pretty is unnecessary. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. The next two days is considered "Pinning" days in which you write enouraging messages on clothes pins, like the bathroom messages, and try to clip as many people as you can during the day. When people get clipped with the clothes pins, many people randomly find the pins and smile. Those students, in return, use the same clip to put on other people to spread the love around the student body. The last day, or Friday, is "No Make-Up Friday" in which girls are encouraged to not wear make-up the whole day. The boys participate on this day by wearing "You don't need make-up to be beautiful. You are Unique" shirts that are sold in pervious weeks.

This parade is full of floats which are made from red wagons, book carts, wheel barrows and anything else like that with wheels. Students create floats from all kinds of different materials. Each float is signed up using a specific theme. Groups include clases, clubs or other organized students. Each float "drives" in a route that ends up at the gym before the pep rally officially starts. Once the parade enters the gym, the pep rally begins with float voting. The crowd gets to vote on the best float.

A presentation was created using our local interviews and video tributes of 9/11 found on the internet. StuCo members created a fabric flag using hand prints for the stars and stripes. During the week of September 6 th members of the student body and staff were given the opportunity to sign the flag for a $1.00 donation that would later be sent to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York. On Friday, September 11 th the students and teachers were asked to wear red, white, or blue in memory of the 9/11 victims. Student council handed out red, white, and blue ribbons during our flag ceremony where echoing Taps was played. During all lunches on that Friday the video interviews and tributes was played. $200.00 was raised for the 9/11 Memorial and Museum allowing us to sponsor two cobblestones.

Parliament members went to every classroom at the beginning of the class period to ask every student in the school for any amount of spare change. The money was to be used to provide presents for children who would be in the hospital over the Christmas holidays. We collected almost $800 to put towards toys to be divided up between two hospitals, North Central Baptist and Santa Rosa Children s Hospital. This project was done in conjunction with Winner s Circle and DECA. This project gave every one of our members a wonderful sense of caring and giving. Hopefully we are always so giving.
