Golfing Etiquette Golf etiquette refers to a set of rules and practices designed to make the game of golf safer and more enjoyable. Although these practices are not formal rules of golf they are extremely important part of the golfing experience here at Manly. Respect for the course, respect for the fellow players and respect for the game All players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. Player s should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or any stones, pebbles, twigs or the like when they make a stroke or practice swing. Wait until the players in front are out of range. Players should always alert green staff nearby or ahead when they are about to make a stroke that might endanger them. If your ball is heading in a direction where there is a danger of it hitting someone, shout a warning immediately. The traditional word of warning is fore!. Take care of the course, repair bunkers, pitch marks, divot holes shoe damage etc. Always play at a good pace, it is a group s responsibility to keep up with the group in front. You should be ready to play as soon as it is your turn to play. When on or near the putting green, leave your bags or carts just off the green on the way to the next tee. When the play of a hole has been completed, leave the putting green quickly. 5

Week 19-52 Program Guide Congratulations on completing the 18 week introductory course. You are now eligible to play in the Monday 9 Hole Social Competition for New Golfers. This competition runs every Monday from 10:14 to 10:54am from the 1 st Tee. You will need to reserve a spot online under Golf Course Bookings on the Manly Golf Club Website where you also have the option to book a group. Please remember all of these golfers are new and will only have been playing a short time so it s a great opportunity to meet new people. This competition is supervised so you will still have the option to ask questions and gain valuable information from our more experienced members. There are also regular rules seminars from our State Rules official. We will assign you a golf partner or mentor. This person will be an experienced player (but was a beginner once too) and will play at least 3 rounds of golf with you and ensure you are ready to tackle your first Friday competition. They will be available to answer any questions or issues that may arise. Please also continue to learn the Rules of Golf as you will be referring to these rules on a regular basis. Golf NSW provides regular clinics at various courses in Sydney and are invaluable. We encourage you to continue to have golf lessons with our club professionals and arrange regular practice rounds or sessions. Golf is a difficult game which requires much patience and skill, we hope you persevere with the game and choose to continue playing golf at Manly Golf Club. 13
