Old Hilmians R.U.F.C., 1962-63 The Old Hilmians Rugby Club have had an excellent season, losing only five of the twenty 1 st XV games. The playing record was:- Played 20, Won 14, Drawn 1, Lost 5, Points for 317, Points against 128. 12 matches were cancelled because of frost. This was a big improvement on last season s record when only ten of twenty-six games were won against similar opposition. The biggest defeat was suffered against Sheffield University in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup Competition, when the score was 30 points to nil. The biggest victory was a 52-nil victory over Wheatley Hills O.B. On three occasions the Club turned out two XVs, the second XV beating Selby and Scunthorpe and losing to Headingley. On Easter Monday a team was entered in the Bridlington Sevens Competition. This team beat Longcroft O.B. 13- nil, Driffield 8-6 and King s College, London, 8-6, but lost to Redcar in the Semi-final 10-0. Redcar were beaten by the eventual winners, Christ s College, Cambridge. In the Sheffield Tigers Sevens Competition, the Hilmians were beaten in the first round by Sheffield University B. They reached the final of the losers competition but were beaten by Sheffield University A. Next season the Hilmians have a complete fixture list beginning with the Old Birkonians Sevens Competition on Sunday, September 1 st. The Old Hilmians R.U.F.C. would like to express their thanks to Mr. Hamilton for allowing them the use of the school facilities, Mr. Tate for his help with training and the running of the club, Mr. Rhodes for his work on the pitches and Mr. Aspden for his willing co-operation throughout the season. Leading point scorers for the season:- Tries Conv Pen Points Parkin 4 15 7 63 Hebden 3 17 2 49 Cartledge 8 4-32 Allen 7 1-23 Lockett 8-6 18 B. May (Hon. Sec.) Old Hilmians R.U.F.C., 1963-64 The Old Hilmians R.U.F.Club has had an excellent third season. Of the 29 matches played we won 17, drew 3 and lost 9, scoring 465 points and conceding 212. The heaviest defeat of the season was by 43 points to nil against Rotherham but these points were easily recovered with wins against Leeds Y.M.C.A. by 58 points to nil, and Wheatlev Hills by 39 points to 5 at Hemsworth and 78 points to 6 at Wheatley. The outstanding player of the season was undoubtedly Albert Parkin, the Swansea University College captain. In only nine games Parkin scored 106 points (12 T, 26 C., 4 P, 2 DG) and provided the breaks for many more. Other leading scorers were Hooley with 46 points (3 T, 17 C, 3 P), Homer with 36 points (12 T), Nuttall with 27 points (7 T, 3 C), and Bone with 23 points (2 T, 4 C, 3 P). In the games against the School honours were shared, Hilmians winning the Christmas game by 8 points to 6, and the School winning the Easter game by 16 points to 14. Training for next season begins in August and any players leaving School who would like to play for the Hilmians should contact Mr. R. Hooley. B. May (Hon. Sec.)
