D E S E R T S H A D O W S The Desert Sun March 2018 Volume 39, Issue 6 Resort Activities HAPPY MARCH EVERYONE! Let s make this month a MARVEL- OUS one! I m working on next season already, new bands for our Saturday Night Dances and exciting entertainers for our Wednesday Night Shows! Speaking of dances, I m in need of hosts for this month s dances. If you are interested in hosting please stop by Activities Office and sign up. It s sad to say, this is our last full month of activities for the season at Desert Shadows. The Activities Office will be closed as of Saturday, March 31st. If you should need to contact me about something please email me at the email below. I will be checking it occasionally. SATURDAY MORNING SOCIAL: Donuts and Muffins will be available by 7:30am in the Front Auditorium on Saturday, March 3rd, 17th, 24th and 31st. We provide the Donut for.75 cents and/or the Muffin for $1.00 and we also have free coffee. So join us in the morning for some socializing with your neighbors. The Sign-up sheet for summer donuts on Saturday will be posted in the lobby by the end of March. ICE CRE SOCIAL: Join us on Thursday, March 1st at 12:30pm (just after lunch) in the Front Auditorium for our last Make Your Own Sundae event of the season. The cost is $2.00 for each sundae. We hope to see you there! WEDNESDAY NIGHT SHOW: Our only show in March is on Wednesday, March 7th at 7:00 pm. The Bernie and Red Show will be performing their original comedy material and great music. Bernie and Red began their musical partnership shortly after they married, in Liverpool, back in the sixties. The popularity of Bernie & Red, whose marriage has lasted for more than 50 years, is a testament to their funny material, exciting stage presence & their sharp delivery, which is often cheeky, but never offensive. Tickets for the show are $8.00 for residents and $10.00 for nonresidents. And as a reminder to our short term guests, as long as you are paying rent for one night or 365 nights, you are considered a resident, so please join us! Tickets are available in the Activities Office and in the lobby the night of the performance unless were sold out. Oh, and if you re a table person like myself, we will have assigned tables and general theatre seating available. VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION LUNCH: Have you been a volunteer at the resort this season? If you have, please stop by the Activities Office and sign-up for the volunteer lunch provided by Management. The lunch and entertainment is provided to show you that your help during the season has been Much Appreciated. Lunch is on Thursday, March 15th at 11:30am in the Front Auditorium. Please buy your advanced tickets in the Activities Office. If seats are available we will sell dance tickets in the lobby before the dance. Admission for residents is $5.00 each and non-residents $7.00 each. You may bring snacks and your choice of beverages to the dances. Admission is free if you re a host! Just Sayin! FRIDAY NIGHT S: Movies start at 6:00 pm in the Back Auditorium. Fresh POPCORN available for $.25 cents each. (Idris Elba and Kate Winslet) March 30th BATTLE OF THE SEXES PG -13 This electrifying sports docudrama recreates the legendary 1973 Battle of the Sexes tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs (Emma Stone and Steve Carell) Movie selections are subject to change in the event unable to rent. EASTER DINNER: Easter Sunday is on April 1st this year. No Fooling. There will be church service at 9:00 on Easter Sunday, and then we will set up the Auditorium for Lunch at 1:00pm. If you would like to join us for Easter Dinner, the sign-up sheet will be on the white board in the lobby. One name per line and list the dish you will bring to share. The resort will provide the meat, I will need some volunteer cooks, carvers and cleaners. Remember you need to bring your own beverage and table setting, etc. DESERT SHADOWS THEATRE GROUP: Anyone interested in participating in the resort s theater group, please plan to attend a meeting on Wednesday, March 14th at 1:00 in the Back Auditorium. We will be selecting the January 2019 play and associated assignments. SEE YOU THERE! NEWCOMERS WELCOME! CRAFT & VENDOR FAIR: Friday, March 9th is our last Craft & Vendor Fair event for this season. We have vendors in the Front Auditorium as well as the Back Auditorium. Oh and I can t forget Will, He is our KNIFE & SCISSOR SHARPENING vendor that parks his van in my parking space just outside of the Activities Office. For all you early birds please come to the Back Auditorium for Donuts and Coffee in the morning by 9:00 am. Most of the vendors are set up by then. Our official open time is 10am until 1:00pm. Our Lunch table will be open by 11:30am with Hot Dogs and/or Nachos for $1.00 each. So I hope you stop in and check out our vendors, we have home made crafts, Avon, jellies, jewelry, metal art, LuLaRoe clothes, Damsel in Defense and Tupperware and many others. If you are interested in becoming a vendor please contact me in the Activities Office. SINGSPIRATION: There will be a special music concert on Sunday, March 4th at 7:00pm in the Front Auditorium. The Church Choir will put on a concert and the audience will have a chance to request favorite songs that we all can join in and sing. Page 2 T HE DES ER T S U N

Activities Continued BINGO: Thursday s we WELCOME YOU to join us for BINGO in the Front Auditorium. Game sheets are sold from 6pm 6:45pm. Bingo starts as soon as money is counted and divided. To play (1) 3 on 1 game sheet for each game is $4.00. You may purchase as many game sheets as you can play. This past Thursday the JACKPOTS were over $175.00 each, so come and join in the FUN and see if Lady Luck is on your side! The last night of Bingo for the season will be on Thursday, April 26th. QUILT SHOW: On Tuesday, March 6th, the Quilters will have their annual quilt show from 10:00am 2:00pm in the Front Auditorium. Besides seeing all the beautiful quilts they ve made this season, you will get to see the other projects they have worked on. They are a very talented group of ladies. Along with the quilts, the Art Projects that we ve worked on this past month will also be displayed. Our resort if filled with many talented people. Come check it all out! PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Our last Pancake Breakfast is on Saturday, March 10th in the Front Auditorium. Tickets go on sale at 8:15 am and we stop selling at 9:00am. Cost is $4.00 each, and your breakfast includes ALL THE PANCAKES YOU CAN EAT, 2 sausage links, orange juice and coffee. We provide the table settings, butter, maple syrup, etc. However, if you PREFER Sugar Free Syrup, please bring your own. WEEKLY ACTIVITIES: Our weekly activities like Computer Group, Darts, Line Dancing etc. will continue this month and even into April. If you are the Volunteer over an Activity please let me know if you have an end date so I may post it on the White Board. WISCONSIN DAY: Are you originally from Wisconsin, or lived there at some point in your life? If so, on Monday, March 12th they are having a get together at the East Ramada from 4-6pm. The sign-up sheet in posted on the white board in the lobby. ST. PATRICKS DAY PARADE: Saturday, March 17th is St. Patrick s Day! We will have our annual parade lining up behind the Activities Office around 9:30am and starting out at 10:00am. Please check the posters out for the parade route so if you re not in the parade or on the route, you can grab your lawn chair and head to the route to sit and watch the parade pass by. This is always a fun time for those in the parade and those that watch! PATIO SALE: Our Resort Wide Patio Sale is on Saturday, March 24th from 8am Noon. Sign-up sheet will be on the white board in the lobby. Selling Your Home Are you thinking of selling your park model? You have a couple of options. You can list your home through the resort by contacting our full time professional salesman, Larry. If you choose to list with Larrry, your home will be featured on the Desert Shadows website and will be on the list the office gives to anyone who is inquiring about moving into our resort. Larry will show your home, be the point of contact between buyer and seller and do all necessary paperwork. Your other option is to list your home as For Sale by Owner. If this option works better for you, please stop by the front office first. We can help make sure you have all the paperwork necessary for quick approval. Exterior House Painting! Bible Study continues Tuesdays at 1 in the Back Auditorium until March 27th. The topic is Living a G Rated Life in an X rated World. All are welcome to participate. The Church Committee meets on Tuesdays at noon in the Craft Room. We need people willing to serve as Church officers. Anyone interested in participating is invited to attend. Guys & Gals Golf The outing will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at the Bellair Golf Course. The first tee time will be at 11:30am. The sign-up will be in the card room on Saturday, March 3rd at 9:00am. Dinner will be back in the Desert Shadows Front Auditorium. The dinner will cost $10.00 per person, due at the time of sign up. Happy Hour will start at 5:00pm with Dinner to follow. This is a fun time for everyone, so sign-up, come out and enjoy the fellowship of your friends and neighbors!
