F e b r u a r y 2 0 1 7 V o l u m e 2 5 I s s u e 2 w w w. b h a d a. o r g NOTES FROM CONNIE Happy Valentines Day to all. I don't find that I have a lot of painted items for February to display, so maybe I should check my stash and see what I could do about that. Have been working on another project, (a free pattern from Artists club) so by the time I get around to it, February will be gone. Our board meeting and regular meeting covered many items, so if you felt we omitted something, let me know. We ended with a fun Christmas gift exchange organized by Nelda and had a variety of talent displayed. Of course there were great treats provided by our members. Thank you to all who have signed up for 2017 committees. Currently we have an opening for decorative painting month (contact me) and March hospitality (contact Mary Z.) Cindy and I will audit the books. The registration forms are out for the Alice in Wonderland retreat. The deadline is March 18th. There are several classes of interest, so look them over and get registered. Reserve April 21 (PM),22 and 23. Pat got several memory boxes at the meeting and I am glad members are continuing to paint them. Thanks to all who turn them in each month. B H A D A Black Hills Area Decorative Artists Luanne T has informed us that our fall seminar will be in colored pencil. After much discussion and a DVD review, we will venture outside the box and bring our pencil sharpeners. A few members have experience in colored pencil, so wish the rest of us luck! Also have 2018 fall seminar teacher lined up. The installation of officers was informal because weather in December delayed it. The officers for this year are posted with the newsletter. Keep your brushes in motion and we will see you at the next meeting. Pat will be in charge of the program. Karol will give us a reminder. If they change rooms on us again, we will inform you. Connie Mather BHADA President BHADA Happenings Next meeting will be Feb 18, 2017, at Terra Sancta. Pat K. will be teaching a memory box project at the February meeting.

February Painting Project At the February meeting, we will be painting a floral design on a Memory Box. This is basically a round pattern, but I m sure it could be adapted to other shaped boxes by fussing a little with the pattern. BASECOAT your box with Butter milk or similar offwhite color. Moisten a sea sponge with water and very lightly and softly pounce Avocado on the lid of the box. COLORS WE WILL USE: [Pat will provide these if you do not have them]: Avocado, Baby Pink, Buttermilk, Camel, Frosted Plum, Honey Brown, Light Avocado, Lilac, Midnight Green, Orchid, Pink Chiffon, Royal Fuschia, Sand and White ALSO BRING: Regular painting supplies & brushes (including a fine liner and good brushes for shading) BLUE BOOKS If you have not already given your Blue Book to the new committee chairperson, Please do so this month!!! 2017 BHADA OFFICERS President Connie M. Discussion ensued about 2 1-1/2 day classes in colored pencil. She uses mi teintes paper purchased at Hobby Lobby as a surface, we can bulk order needed pencils as a group. After previewing a short video of hers' it was put to a vote to keep her as our seminar teacher this year. Hospitality: Everyone brought treats for our Christmas party. SHARING MEMORIES Bonnie mailed 49 Memory Boxes to Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin in January. Even though we are missing the box count & names for October and November [Drum Roll Please] BHADA HAS PAINTED 12,007 MEMORY BOXES SINCE JOINING THE PROGRAM IN 2000. Congratulations to all of our members and friends of BHADA who have participated in this program by painting Memory Boxes or donating towards the purchase of unpainted boxes and postage to mail these to hospitals. BHADA has now met our goal of painting 12,000 Boxes and we are off to meet the next goal, 13,000 Memory Boxes. We are so proud of all of you You are the best!!! Pat will be teaching a Memory Box Project at the February meeting. Please show your love for a family grieving the loss of their baby by joining us and painting a box after the meeting. See the prep instructions elsewhere in this newsletter. Thanks a million for all that YOU do to make the BHADA Chapter s Memory Box Program such a success. Pat & Bonnie Take Time To Paint a Memory Box Web Viewing Problem? Some members are having a little difficulty opening the newsletter on-line. (If you are reading this on-line, it must not be you ) I ve checked several times with several members and there doesn t seem to be any consistency or an easy explanation for this. Here are a couple of suggestions that may help: 1. Update your Adobe Reader to the latest version and then refresh/restart your computer; and then refresh the BHADA website when you visit. 2. Each time you visit the BHADA website, refresh the page you are visiting. I can t guarantee this will work for you, but please let me know if you are still having problems. I ll sympathize, if nothing else. Thank you. Jo Ann
