Prefer to social sail rather than, I don t race as I don t want to get in the way of experienced sailors,i would race if races were shorter, I would race if I had some training to understand the rules, Just done a couple of races this year, I would to see team racing move on each week so that by week three they are using the start line by the duty hut and learning the course from the course boards and completing a small course increasing each week so that by week five a prize could be given to the most improved beginner. Would like more training on single-hander s for racing and I would like to crew in larger boats, Suggest novice races over a shortened course to get more people out racing, I would like help to cope sailing in heavy weather conditions, The team races in the summer helped my confidence no end. Would race if I had more time. Some race training for adults would be welcome. RYA training last year really helped my skills
Q: Do you take part in the OnBoard Youth Training or Adults Refresher Get back On the Water sessions? Answer Choices Responses 85.9%.% Adults sessions have helped me gain confidence Having sailors around me with the same confidence issues and someone keeping an eye on me should I fall in the water Always something to learn Less scary than trying to join a race Q5: What do you dislike about the OnBoard or Adults Refresher Sessions and how can we improve them? 6.% I am happy with the Onboard Youth sessions 3 I am happy with the Adults Refresher sessions 3.5% 5 t applicable to me Total Respondents: 78 5.56% Have a more defined theme for each session which is publicised in advance. Happy with OnBoard sessions but would like more. More adult sessions. Would like a buddy to keep an eye on me when on water when it s not an adult session. Q6: We have improved the facilities at Cransley in 3 are there any further areas of improvement that you would like to suggest? A. I believe the Kitchen equipment needs upgrading as it limits what catering is allowed. If the club had the funds then an extra laser would be good as there are plenty of Picos & Toppers, but both lasers were regularly out. The lasers are the most popular boats if a learner wants to have a go at club racing as the toppers & Picos are too slow. More club boats for one person. Improvements on the foreshore and access. Tidy up area around car park get rid of the rubbish and non sailing items, caravans, rabbit hutches etc. Improve approach road to car park. We cannot improve our social events with the kitchen facilities as they are need better cooking facilities, cooker is useless. I worry about the hygiene in the kitchen and the poor kitchen facilities limit what we can offer. Better picnic area, a rib rescue boat and get rid of water weed. More seating on foreshore. Hairdryer in ladies changing rooms. Toilet facilities and showers on ground floor for the less able. Disabled access to the pontoon and downstairs accessible changing room and toilet. Disabled toilet facilities. Stronger links with school groups. Hot water is intermittent. A comfortable area in the club house for non sailors to sit. Renovation of the main room in club house when funds available. Improve notice boards with a who is who including pictures (i.e. committee). disabled access to the club house this needs addressing. This is a brilliant club the only thing I would say needed improvement is the kitchen facilities to enable greater use as a social facility and not just as a practical sailing facility. Renovation of the foreshore and car parking areas. Extension to pontoon so I can walk my boat round to the pontoon to deeper water where I can drop my centreboard and rudder to sail off sometimes I get nervous doing all of this from the foreshore. Baby changing area and somewhere to put pushchairs out of the rain. Open all year round. Shore facilities could be improved for older and disabled sailors. Club house needs updating and may I suggest with
the growing numbers of young families that we have a timber swing. Some of the slipways in particular the one by the duty hut could do with improvement. This slipway has a boggy area which is hard to negotiate with a heavy boat. New buoys on water. Go pro cameras to polish sailing techniques when sailing with coach. New rescue boat to replace current boat as it is too small to rescue one person. More kitchen menu bacon rolls etc, rota staff. Toaster. A wrap around balcony to fire exit door. Another container for kit. Clean water on foreshore. Make a duel purpose disabled/training room in the downstairs area. Make the underneath of the club house a secure area for a large boat building workshop/storage area. Ask the owners to get rid of the two old boats and rib that is cluttering the car park. Perhaps a disabled lift to connect the two floors if a grant were available point of entry could be made by the fire exit. Racing dinghies suitable for two adults/adult and child to use. I don't know what other clubs do but we could benefit from a bit more maintenance of club boats. Q7: We would like to know what you think of Cransley SC Are you happy with the sailing club racing programme? If you learnt to sail at Cransley were you happy with the instruction? Are you happy with the level of safety cover on sailing days? Do you feel your sailing needs are catered for? Regarding membership fees - Do you feel that the club offers you good value for money? Excellent 38.6% 3 68.% 7 6.6% 7 5.55% 8.% 65 Good 39.7% 3.% 7 3.5% 5 36.36% 8.69% 9 Fair Poor.56%.5% 5.3% 6.9% 5.6% % %.8% % % Comment 9.3% 5.9%.8%.6%.3% Total Respondents 78 69 78 77 77 It would be good if non racers had more chance to sail without disturbing the racers. Perhaps racing one day at weekend rather than two. Good to have more social sailing at weekends as I don t want to go on the water when there is racing. Some safety boat drivers appear to have no awareness of the safety of the individuals on the water and are more intent on having fun in the speedboat Some of the safety boat drivers need a refresher course as on a windy day in the summer we had a rescue boat rescuing a rescue boat as the driver did not know what he was doing and got stuck in the weed. Club boats take a lot of wear and tear so aren't always useable
Q8: Do you attend our social events? Answer Choices Responses 79.9% 6.5% 6 Open days are great, more open days during the summer please. It would be great to have the youth summer camp again. Open longer hours for sailing during the summer weekends. Hog roast, fun competition days and charity fund raising More social events and disco at the end of the season for youths More social events Serve lunches Socials allow non sailors to mix with the sailors and gives a strong sense of community Adult only events as it gets too busy sometimes if event is in the club house with lots of children. More party evenings Halloween dance live music on the water Laying up supper was great fun. Summer BBQs are good Q9: Youth Sailors: If we were to run some sessions in a smaller area to improve your skills would you be interested and what day would be best for you?
