Hello Swim Families! I am very excited for this upcoming swim season and wanted to take to the time to let you know a little about my philosophies and myself for HVGC Summer Swim Team! My name is Dori Auslander. I am a 21 year old finishing up my junior year at Dickinson College and studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. I am the head coach for the Hopewell Harpoons for what will be my fifth summer. I am deeply rooted to HVGC. I have been swimming as a Harpoon at HVGC since I was about five years old. As a coach I strive to bring back the fun traditions that I remember growing up with, while growing the team into a strong and competitive team! I attended Hopewell Valley Central High School where I swam on the Varsity Swim Team for four years. In high school I worked under Coach Lynn Shields at Pennington Aquatics, coaching and learning from her. Before working at Pennington Aquatics, I swam for them all year round from the age of eight until I reached my sophomore year in high school. The coaching staff would love to continue to expand our team and each child s swimming abilities! I encourage you all to register your kids, no matter what age or skill level, to swim with us at HVGC! We welcome and would love all! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I am easily accessible by email: dauslander27@gmail.com or by cell phone: (609)-658-0776. Please do not hesitate to reach out! To potential swim families, since I will not be able to attend the Swim Suit Fitting on May 6th (more information below), I would love to hear from you with any questions, concerns, or just to say hello! I hope to see you all this summer and I look forward to meeting you and your children very soon! I am excited for the upcoming swim season and can t wait to have some fun! Best, Dori Auslander HVGC Head Swim Coach
Hello Divers! My name is Lillie Widmayer, and I am very excited to be joining HVGC s swim and dive team this summer as your new head coach! I can t thank Hanna enough for helping me with the transition and getting a good understanding of the program. Hanna will still be helping out as much as she can while she continues on in her career with a nursing internship this summer. I look forward to meeting everyone and would like to introduce myself a bit. I began diving my freshman year at West Windsor Plainsboro High School South and have since fallen in love with the sport. I briefly dove with the Blue Dolphin Diving team during my senior year of high school. Currently, I am finishing up my freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University where I am a varsity diver. I am eager to teach new divers and further the skills of experienced divers. I encourage you all to register your children for the dive program; we welcome everyone regardless of skill level! Our Dive practices will mirror the swim teams so that those choosing to swim and dive will be able to get both practices in. 9-10 for our older divers and 10-11 am for our younger divers. While school is still in session practice will be held 4:30-6:30 pm with the same schedule older divers first and younger divers second. Once we know the official day school lets out Dori and I will be emailing you additional information on practice and meet schedules. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My email is: lillie.widmayer@gmail.com, and my cell is: 609-273-8288. I look forward to meeting everyone and having a great season! Best, Lillie Widmayer, Head Dive Coach
Welcome Packet: 2018 Swim & Dive Season Soon we will be back to the warm weather! We re all so excited to start the season and work with your swimmers and divers. We decided to put together a packet of information to help the season go smoothly. Within you will find a practice schedule, expectations for your swimmers and coaches, and coaches contact information. We look forward to a fun summer! Important upcoming information: ****Swim & Dive Team Fitting and Registration Party is scheduled for Sunday May 6 th at 4:00pm-7:00pm. This is the event where your swimmer or diver can try on the team suits to get the right fit and order them. You will also be able to purchase swim caps at this event. It is also a great opportunity for you to meet the coaches and pool manager, Emily. Unfortunately, I (Dori) will not be able to make it, as I will still be abroad, but I promise to be in touch by email and host a parents meeting as soon as I get home. Head dive coach Lillie will be there, so it will be a great opportunity to meet her! ****Registration will be available online starting April 1 st. The first day of practice there will be a parent s information session hosted by the head coaches (more information to come on this) to discuss the information listed below: Shutterfly will be used again this year for swim team. Please use our HVGC Shutterfly Share Site (https://hvgcharpoons.shutterfly.com/) to mark your swimmers meet availability and sign up to help during meets under the Parent Volunteer tab. Also on the site will be the final swim calendar (when it is available), coaches contact information, roster, etc. Swimmer & Divers Expectations: Try your best to be on time - we understand parents are driving and have busy schedules! Try to attend as many practices as possible. We understand that the summer can be filled with camps, vacations, and other commitments. However, attendance is important to help your swimmers improve. If you plan to miss an extended period of time, please send us an email or talk to the coaches after practice.
Show up prepared to swim: Bring mesh bags containing pull buoys, flippers, and goggles. Be respectful of other swimmers, coaches, and parents. Willingness to work hard. Attendance on the morning of meets. As a side note, if you have a concern, feel free to talk to any coach. While we appreciate feedback and are open to fielding questions, we would prefer if these concerns were voiced after practice. Our primary concern is the safety of our swimmers and divers, so practice time should be focused on them. Expectations for your coaches: Showing up to practice on time Prepared for every practice and meet Available for contact Positive attitude An enjoyable environment for your swimmers Coaching Staff: Head Swim Coach: Dori Auslander Email: dauslander27@gmail.com Cell Number: 609-658-0776 Assistant Swim Coach: Olivia Kochis Email: oliviakochis@hvrsd.org Cell Number: 609-947-6566 Assistant Swim Coach: Peter Shannon Email: pashannon3@gmail.com Cell Number: 609-651-2805 Head Dive Coach: Lillie Widmayer Email: lillie.widmayer@gmail.com Cell Number: 609-273-8288 Please feel free to contact me by either cell phone or email at any time! " Tentative Schedule: "
Schedule: As Lillie s welcome letter said, the dive practice schedule mimics that of the swim practice schedule. The main difference is that Dive meets are on Monday s and Wednesday s whereas Swims meets are on Tuesday s and Thursday s - this way your child can participate in both if they want! (We encourage it!) Unfortunately, not even the coaches have access to a concrete schedule so what is listed above is tentative. As soon as we know where meets are and who they are against we will be in contact with a final schedule! If the last day of school changes or has changed, we will send out an updated schedule regarding this as well! *Note a change in the schedule: we will no longer have night practices for swimmers or divers. Stroke and Turn will still be available for swimmers and we highly encourage swimmers to participate if possible! Private Lessons: If you are interested in private lessons for your swimmers or divers, parents are to schedule lessons individually with the coach of their choice by contacting them directly by phone or email ($25 for 30 minutes). Swimmer & Dive Information Sheet: Below is a swimmer & divers information sheet. I ask for you to have your swimmer/s & divers or help your swimmer/s & divers fill out this sheet for me, print it, and bring it to me on the first day of practice! If your child is participating in both swim and dive, it would be greatly appreciated to fill out two of the sheets so Lillie and I can both have a copy and so the questions about the child s goals are directed towards the specific sport!
