Nomination forms and tags can be picked up at your local extension office. Small animal tags are $3.00 each and payable to your local 4-H council. Youth for the Quality Care of Animals Youth for the quality care of animals program is replacing the Youth PQA program per the Kansas State Fair Board. If your PQA certification is still good then it will be accepted this year. If your child needs to complete a certification to show swine at the state fair then Youth for the Quality Care of Animals will be required. Youth for the quality care of animals will be required for ALL species in 2019. This program does have a cost associated with it. If you take the certification in person the cost will be $3.00 if you take it online but it will cost $12.00 per member. You need to sign up online before the class. Contact your agent for more information. One in-person class was held in April and look for more to come. District Horse Show The district horse show will be held July 10, 2018 at the Parsons State Hospital. Entry forms will be out soon. Don t forget to get your coggins paperwork for all horse shows. If you would like to ride at the district show you need to complete your level 1 testing and have your results back by June 15th. Contact your agent for more information! Spring Show Information The Extension office regularly receives information about upcoming livestock shows, judging competitions, and fitting demonstrations for all. species. We add these flyers to our website: www.wildcatdistrict.k-state.edu/4-h/ livestock-horse-events/ Wheat Variety Plot Enrollment Open Enrollment for the 2019 Kansas 4-H and FFA Wheat Variety Plot program is open. The program begins fall of 2018 and goes through September 2019. The enrollment form and program details are currently available. Visit: http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/conferences-events/wheat/wheat-variety-plots/index.html. Members are asked to contact their local Extension Office by July 10 as enrollments are due to the Northwest Area Extension Office by July 24, 2018. Cost for 2018-19 will be $35.00 to receive the five varieties of wheat. It is very important that we know the number of participants early, so we can have enough seed and metal signs. These will be distributed on Friday, September 7th at the 2018 Kansas State Fair.
State Geology Field Trip The annual geology field trip for 2018 is planned for the weekend of June 8-10. This year there will be two options; Southern Flint Hills, Headquartered in Yates Center and North Central Kansas, Headquartered in Belleville. Anyone with an interest in geology is invited to attend. Registration and more information can be found online on the State 4-H Website. In an effort to plan for the needs of youth in the Geology project, we are taking advanced orders for Geology Exhibit boxes. If you would like to order a 4-H Geology display box in 2018 please fill out the order form on the state 4-H website. Boxes can be mailed for an additional $25 per box or can be picked up at the Geology Filed Trip in June. All orders must to be submitted by May 14, 2018. Greenbush 4-H Camp ONLY open to CR, LB, and WL counties. (Montgomery County will participate in Cedar Bluff camp, see MG page.) Greenbush will be June 19-20th for 7-8 year olds. This overnight camp is a great starter camp for young youth. Estimated cost is $75. Local agents will be sending out more details soon! Sunny Hills, Rock Springs 4-H Center June 3-6, 2018 for youth who have completed 3rd -7th grade. Cost is $200 dollars. Youth stay in cabins and participate in events ranging from canoing to building robots. Check with your local agent for registration! COUNSELORS go to camp for FREE! We are always in need of good sophomore complete and up counselors! This looks great on scholarships, resumes, and college applications! Contact your Extension office as soon as possible if you are interested so you can complete a volunteer application! Campference This is a great transitional camp for youth ages 12-14 and will be held June 26-29 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. Camp features workshops about opportunities in the 4-H program and how to better interact with others! Camp fills up fast! Registration will open in each March and will close when it is full or May 15th. Cost is $275 and includes lots of extras! Find more details on the Kansas 4-H website! SE Area Judging Contest & Favorite Food Show The Southeast Area Judging Contest for Crops, Photography, Horticulture, FCS and Favorite Food Show will be held June 12th in Emporia. Livestock judging contest including meats and skillathon will be June 21st in Yates Center. If you are interested in attending please call the Extension Office and let us know. Record Book Advise See Wilson County s page for some great record book advice! Legos 4-H agents are looking for Lego donations! If you have small Legos that you no longer use, consider donating them to your local 4-H office! Agents are collecting Legos to use for local programming and they will travel around the district. 3

Junior Leaders work to develop leadership skills to better serve their community. County Scholarships Crawford Co. Scholarships are available in the Extension Office or on our county website. Archery Crawford Co. 4-H Archery began Sunday, April 15, 2018, 2:00 pm. We will continue to meet every Sunday with the exception of holidays (Mother s Day, Memorial Day weekend, Father s Day, etc.) and any other problem dates that come up. Beginners MUST attend a range and safety orientation to participate in the program. Please make arrangements with me, in advance, if you would like to participate. Equipment will be provided for the beginners, please leave yours at home. The veterans will begin meeting on Sunday, May 6 at 4:00 pm. Meeting times may change as the season goes on. We will make those changes to practice times and dates at practice. If you miss a practice, contact Dan to see if there are any changes. The Fair Board works many hours on a volunteer basis to keep our fair grounds in good working order and to get new additions built. We can help ourselves by helping them. If you participated in Club Day you received a $25 coupon that can be applied as well. Transportation will be provided. Greenbush Camp registration is due May 4, 2018. This camp is overnight June 19-20 and is for 7 & 8 year olds. It is $75 and the Club Day coupon (if you received one) can be applied to this camp. Cedar Bluff 4-H Camp Camp will be June 19-20th with counselor training on June 18th. Camp is open to anyone ages 7-13 and youth don t have to be in 4-H! Cost of camp is $55 for 4-H youth or $60 for non-members. *If you qualified for a scholarship then $10 deposit is needed for each child. Livestock registration: NEW THIS YEAR Livestock registrations can be completed online via a google form. The form can be found on our website and must be completed for each youth. A list of youth and animals they registered will appear on our webiste and be updated at the end each week so you may confirm your registration. Action pictures of you doing the work are wonderful for your record book. Pictures in the show ring are nice, but most judges want to see you doing the hard part. For Record book Time 1. Make sure you have beginning pictures of your livestock projects. 2. Keep track of the number of hours you spend feeding, grooming walking etc. 3. You could have your goal pages filled out. 4. Make sure you take pictures of your 4-H er working on projects. Show pictures nice, but let us see the work they do. 5. Plan to do a little at a time. It will make August less stressful.
