Bill Duxbury How long have you been running and how did you get started? I ran my first track meet as a 4 th grader in 1968 (we used hay bales for hurdles!). Since then I have run high school track, and morphed into a distance runner over the years, err, decades now! What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) I am currently the President of the Charlottesville Track Club. I have been on the Charlottesville Track Club Board of Directors for two years and hope to serve another two years. In addition to my involvement with the CTC Board, I have been a Captain for the Men s Four Miler Training since 2004. I have also been a Captain (along with my wife Laurie) for the Ten Miler Training for many years. We have also been involved with the Marathon/Half Marathon Training program. We have run most of the races in the area along with some out of state marathons. We have also volunteered at various races. I would like to see that CTC continue to be an organization that encourages runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. I also want to continue to see the running community be service oriented both in our sponsorship of races that help various worthy causes, but also in the mentoring of rookies by the veteran runners. I would also like to continue to see the structure of the CTC to be brought up to date to take into account the changes in the local running community over the past decade. My wife Laurie and I have a tradition of crossing the finish line of a race holding hands.

LEAH CONNOR How long have you been running and how did you get started? I've been a long-distance runner since the winter/spring of 2007 when I began training for my first half-marathon. My first local race was the Martha Jefferson 8K Run in 2007. Since then, I've completed 10 marathons, 16 half-marathons, 9 ten-milers, and many shorter races (5K - 10K). I love races! :) What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) I began volunteering with the Charlottesville Track Club in the summer of 2008 by offering to redesign and expand the CTC website. I re-organized the site and added race results from as far back as 1985 as well as reviews of marathons and half-marathons. I've designed and maintained websites for the 2009 Women's Four Miler Training Program (W4MTP), 2009 Marathon and Half-Marathon Training Program (MHMTP), and the 2009/2010 Charlottesville Ten Miler Training Program (C10TP). I also create the online registration forms for many CTC-sponsored training programs and races including the Men's Four Miler and Valentine's Day Couples Race. In addition, I've created logos for the MHMTP, C10TP, and helped design the 2009 Charlottesville Ten Miler race shirt (I smile whenever I see someone around town wearing one and get even more excited when I spot one at an out-of-town race!). I would like to continue to use my graphic design and web management skills to improve the CTC website and the look & feel of other CTC-sponsored training programs, races, and future projects. In December 2009, I became a RRCA* certified running coach and would like to help develop new training opportunities for walkers and runners of all abilities. I'm also interested in helping to organize "fun runs", social events and programs for kids and their parents. (*Road Runners Club of America) I'm the mother of two future runners -- Leary (age 7) and Annalivia (age 5) and the identical twin sister of a runner who lives in Philadelphia and has beat me in a couple marathons. :) I was diagnosed with sesamoid stress fractures in early December and have had to take an unplanned "vacation" from running. It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life, but has given me extra time to read. I'd highly recommend "Paula:

My Life So Far" (autobiography of my favorite runner and marathon world recorder holder, Paula Radcliffe) and "Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen" by Christopher McDougall. My family and I moved to Charlottesville in the summer of 2006, but I never felt like I was part of the local community until I started running. It's been fun and rewarding to share the roads and trails with so many interesting and friendly people.

Joan Esposito How long have you been running and how did you get started? Began in 1979 as a mother of 2 small boys (2,4) without extra time to work out in the gyms. I organized a small group of neighborhood Moms (5-10) to learn to run and get fit and healthy. What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) Member of the CTC since 1997. Director of W4MTP since 2000. Under her leadership and Pink Lady Volunteers Program grew from 150 participants to 1800 in 2009. Thousands of women in the area have benefited from this program. Continue to get women started on this easy, inexpensive road to health. Promote the W4MTP program to those who need it the most. (over weight and out of shape) Joan came to Charlottesville as a UVA professor. She is the mother of 3 grown children (2 are still runners!) She has been the wife to Jim Esposito (a golfer NOT a runner) for 42 years! Awards: CAAR Community Partner Award 2004 CTC Lifetime Achievement Award 2006 Susan G. Komen BMW Local Hero Award 2007 NAR Good Neighbor Certificate Channel 29 Sunrise Celebrity RMRS Stewardship Award for 2007 May your heart and Soles be filled with life, love and especially laughter. Joan Esposito

Carol Finch Charlottesville Track Club Board of Directors Resume How long have you been running and how did you get started? A friend from work encouraged me to run. I ran in races in the early 80s and a few in the late 80s. After that I just used running for exercise and time with my dogs (and neighbor s dogs). Presently I cannot run but I walk and have organized groups to walk for our health. What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) I have been a track club member since 1981. Currently I volunteer at every CTC race, as well as many non-ctc races including: VIA 5K, Bright Stars 5K, Charlottesville Catholic school 5K and the SHE 5K. I also volunteer for AHS and UVA cross country events, as well as track and field. There are four CTC races that I direct: Amnesty 5K, Fairview 5K, Pepsi 10K and the Blue Ridge Burn 5k/10K. Other responsibilities include being a member of the race committee for the Women's 4 miler, the Kelly Watt Memorial, and also compiling race results for New Year's 5K, MJH 4K/8K, Kiwanis 5K, Turkey Trot, and the Men's 4 Miler. My involvement with the CTC and the local running community is both personally rewarding and allows me to communicate with CTC members while giving back to the community. Charlottesville has an amazing and enthusiastic running community and there are a few areas I believe we could focus on to make it even stronger. Volunteering at race events is very rewarding - I have been doing it for over 25 years and would like to work on increasing our volunteer base from Charlottesville and surrounding areas. I would like to ensure that current CTC race policies are consistently/effectively enforced and ensure Category 2 races are treated fairly. This would help prevent races from "folding" due to low profit margins. If we can increase community awareness of funds raised for local charities this would increase cooperation/support within the community. This would include making a clear distinction and disclosure of charity races vs. for profit races: i.e. what percentage of proceeds go to the charity, and did any business/individual benefit financially. I realize that in many cases runners choose a race based on their training schedule, but there are many runners and sponsors whose intentions are to support the charity. Some personal tidbits (other interests, accomplishments, etc.) In 1993 I was given the CTC Lifetime Service Award. Batesville 10K was my very first race. Back in my running/racing days I ran Lynchburg 10 Miler (90 minutes) and Richmond Half Marathon (120 minutes). Right now I consider my greatest accomplishment my fight with cancer, while I continue to work, volunteer and care for my Mom with Alzheimer s. I have a strong commitment to the club and I feel that I could help further by being on the board.

Deb Gilbert How long have you been running and how did you get started? I started running with the women s 4-miler training program in 2004 What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) I try to run or volunteer in several local races. I was a W4MTP pink lady from 2005-2008 and a 10-miler training captain from 2007-present. I would like to work on the back and forth communication with membership and expand on the facebook and other social media programs. I would also be interested in updating our training programs to ensure a positive outcome for all involved. After suffering an injury in the spring and not being able to run for 6 weeks, I discovered a need in the running community. Injured runners need a resource or network to help them maintain their fitness. This could involve setting up a group to help loan out equipment, find people to swim or walk with, etc. I have been cycling for a couple of summers and have participated in the MS Bike Tour and a couple of triathlon relays.

Charlie Beckum How long have you been running and how did you get started? Since High School Coach asked me to join the cross-country team What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) I run many of the area races. I volunteered at Turkey Trot (finish line/chute). In addition, I was a Men s 4 miler team captain (Group 3) this year for all Saturdays except 31 October. Finally, I have volunteered at a couple of High School track and cross-country meets in past years as well. Encourage/promote fitness (running and walking) to improve the overall health of our community I enjoy running with my dog (great exercise for both of us). I am a CPA working at a local Accounting Firm. In addition, I am a U.S. Navy Reservist with 25 years of combined active-duty/reserve service. Thank you for your consideration

Mary Manley How long have you been running and how did you get started? I started running cross country and track in middle school, continued to run competitively through high school and college, and have been running ever since! What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) I have participated as a runner in several local races over the past few years of living in Charlottesville. I ve also volunteered in the local running community in several capacities. I ve been a race day volunteer at the Kiwanis 4 th of July 5k and the Charlottesville Women s Four Miler, and I ve been the director of race day logistics for the Carl Tribastone Memorial 5k for the past two years. In addition, I co-founded and coached GoGirlGo! Charlottesville - a program aimed at building confidence and self-esteem in elementary school-aged girls through running and physical fitness. Charlottesville has an energetic and strong running community. I d like to consider how to tap into that base to help foster physical fitness and/or mentoring programs among the youth population. I d also like to create more communication and networking between the members of the local running community (for example, between race directors, and between local runners who may be seeking running partners or opportunities for casual group runs in various areas around Albemarle or Charlottesville). Some personal tidbits (other interests, accomplishments, etc.) I attended law school at UVA then moved away for several years, and I happily returned to Charlottesville 5 years ago with my husband and 2 children (ages 5 and 7). In my younger days, I was an All-American runner at Georgetown University and competed in the 3000m at the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials. Now I just run for fun and I try to stay injury-free. As an upside to crosstraining around an injury this fall, I recently participated in my first triathlon.

Deborah (Debby) Johnson How long have you been running and how did you get started? Started running with my husband in the 1970 s for exercise on our country road with our dogs. First race was the Charlottesville Women s Four Miler in 2003. What is your involvement in the local running community (races, volunteering, etc?) Have walked/run in multiple Turkey Trots and Charlottesville Women s Four Miler, MJH 5K, Chocolate Chase, Valentine Couples Race, Bright Stars Race, etc. Have been a Pink Lady with the Women s 4 Miler Training Program for over 5 years. Have volunteered for, among others, the Discovery Dash, Bright Stars, MJH 5K/8K, Women s Four Miler, Charlottesville Ten Miler and the Pepsi 10K. I would like to see the CTC be more visible in the community, including having information tables at various health fairs to emphasize the health benefits of an active lifestyle. Raising money from our races for worthy causes is a wonderful byproduct of our running, but I think we could do a better job of positively impacting more individuals in Charlottesville by encouraging what we do best run and/or walk for the enjoyment of it. Our members should be encouraged to partner with other nonprofits or commercial ventures on joint projects where running could be a component. I am the mother of three grown children, one son and two daughters both of whom have been participants in the W4MTP and run in the Charlottesville Women s Four Miler. Have served as President (as well as other positions on the Board) of local associations such as the Central Virginia American Marketing Association (1998-1999), Charlottesville-Albemarle Legal Staff Association, Curriculum Advisory Committee of PVCC and have served on the Board of the state organization of legal professionals from 2005 2009, including serving most recently as Vice President (VALS... the Association for Legal Professionals). Husband of 32 years, Larry, is a retired school teacher.
