It is very important that all students follow the uniform code below. We are providing clear advice and guidance so that there can be no doubt as to what is expected. If it does not comply, students will have to correct their uniform on the first day of term and will not be in lessons until this happens. Students are expected to take responsibility for wearing the correct school uniform and comply with this policy at all times in school and on journeys to and from school. Students who are inappropriately dressed will face sanctions in accordance with the school behaviour policy. The school is a learning environment; this is reflected in the dress code. Plain grey jumpers are not allowed. Salwar kameez, if worn, should be grey. Headscarf, if worn, should be black. Notes 1 Shirts will be tucked in to the trousers/skirts at all times. Top buttons will always be done up. 2 /skirts will be formal, no denim, linen, corduroy, leather or pin-stripe; they will not be lowwaisted, skin-tight, excessively loose, long, short or deliberately torn. Leggings, skin tight trousers or trousers that look like jeans are not appropriate for school. 3 If a skirt is worn either plain black socks, black tights (opaque and at least 40 denier) or flesh-coloured tights must be worn. 4 Shoes will be all black and in a sensible style. No boots, trainers, pumps, high heels or sneakers are allowed, nor are Vans or Converse trainers/shoes. Maximum permitted heel height 5cm. Shoes with a coloured or white logo or white soles are not permitted. If the shoes have laces they must be black. Dance Same as PE uniform (black polo shirt with school crest, black shorts/skort/training pants or sport leggings*). Black leotard optional in class but necessary for examination and show performance (only applicable for Key Stage 4 students). Bare feet. Drama Jewellery The only permitted items are one watch and a pair of plain stud earrings (one earring per ear). Any other body piercing, including clear studs, space-making rings, large, circular or dangly earrings of any description are not permitted even if covered by a plaster. Nose, tongue or face studs, or any kind of facial piercings are not allowed. All jewellery must be removed for PE lessons and so any new piercings need to take place over the summer holidays to allow time for healing. Hair Hair will be natural colours only. Extreme haircuts or patterns cut into hair are not permitted. Hair must be tied back when failure to do so would constitute a safety risk. Hair accessories, if worn, must be black. General Makeup, if worn, should be discreet and nail varnish is not permitted. A belt, if worn, will be plain black with plain buckle and will not be excessively wide. Coats are needed in the cold weather and should avoid inappropriate logos or design. Hoodies, denim jackets and any other inappropriate or non-weatherproof coats are not permitted. Outdoor clothing (coats, gloves, scarves etc.) will be taken off in classrooms and assemblies. Hats will not be worn indoors. Caps are not permitted. Hot Weather Policy - In the event of exceptionally hot weather, it will be the decision of the Headteacher to implement the Hot Weather Policy: Blazers become optional. Please note that if a second layer is needed on top of the school shirt it will be a blazer, not a jumper. On particularly hot days, students may be allowed to remove their ties. Snow - If heavy snow settles on the ground, appropriate boots will be permitted and then students should change into shoes at school. All clothing and property should be clearly marked with the owner s name. Unlabelled property will be placed in Lost Property and, if not collected, will be disposed of in accordance with policy in place at that time. 3

We wish to remind all students and their parents/carers of the following school policy when buying new school shoes: Shoes will be formal, all black and of a sensible style. No boots, trainers, pumps, high heels (above 5cm) or sneakers are allowed, nor are Vans and Converse trainers/ shoes. Shoes with a coloured logo or white soles are not permitted. May my child wear a white blouse instead of a shirt? No May short sleeved shirts be worn all year round? Yes May my child wear a grey cardigan instead of the v-neck jumper? No May sweatshirts or hoodies be worn? No May my child wear shorts? No May students wear chino style trousers? No they fade to grey and are not smart enough. Can socks be worn with skirts? Yes but they must be black. Black or flesh-coloured tights are also permitted. Is it compulsory for students to wear the blazer in class throughout the school day and in summer? Yes they have to be worn throughout the school day unless the teacher lets the students know they can remove them. Is there a ruling on what coat can be worn over the top of the blazer during the winter months? A coat can be worn but it must not be denim or a hoodie. What should a parent/carer do if they are unable to purchase any trousers to fit their child either from SWI or a recommended retailer? Send a picture of the proposed item to relevant Head of Year for them to look at and give agreement or otherwise (see p6 for examples of acceptable styles). Are Velcro shoes allowed? Yes (see p7 for acceptable styles). Can children choose any item of school uniform that they prefer? Students are allowed to dress in whichever style in which they feel most comfortable in as long as it conforms to the uniform regulations. Do students need to have a particular school bag? No but we recommend a rucksack type which will spread the weight of the bag across the shoulders and should have some fluorescent markings which will show up in the dark but this is only advice and is not compulsory. May students wear jogging pants/sports leggings for all PE lessons? Yes leggings or training jogging pants can be worn in all PE lessons apart from Rugby & Gymnastics but they both must be purchased from our supplier SWI. Can students wear skins under their PE kit in cold weather? A black base layer under the PE kit is fine for outdoor activities. PE bag should this be a draw string bag? It doesn t matter what PE bag is chosen but please ensure it is named. Are the rules on jewellery the same for Lower and Upper School students? Yes, for safety reasons, the rules regarding jewellery are that students are allowed to wear a watch and a pair of plain small stud earrings (one earring per ear). What are the rules on piercings? One small stud per ear, no ear plugs, stretchers or tunnels. Nose, tongue or face studs, or any kind of facial piercings are not allowed. Yes only natural colour hair is allowed and no extreme hair styles. Can my child wear make-up to school? Make-up if worn, should be discreet. Nail varnish should not be worn. For safety reasons, false nails are not permitted in school.
