We had a record number of family join us this year. Arlyn was here to entertain us and Jay from Patriot was here to take Christmas pictures of our residents. We look forward to this big event each year with you and your family, and will continue to do so each year. Please see more pictures on page 2.

Fun Time! Youth Group Visits We had a great time with the Holy Family Youth Group; they came to play cards, games and just have some fun. We made s mores, which was a fun treat, along with popcorn, snacks and cold drinks. Our activity room was packed, but what a fun evening! February Birthdays 2/9 Jim R. 2/12 Barb C. 2/21 Mary Ann E. 2/23 Dale W. 2/28 Faye Y. Welc me New Residents Welcome to American House Grand Blanc C306 Verna D. B210 Peter & Verna R. B312 Don L. Please Note: At our resident meeting it was brought up that we are having issues in our laundry room. Please make sure you keep an eye on the time when putting items in the dryer. Clothes are being put in the dryer and left; this ties it up so that it cannot be used until you pick them up. Most items can be dried in a half hour, so please keep track of time or wait in the laundry room or 2nd floor lobby. Also, we have clothes being left in the laundry room. If they are there for a week, they will be put down in the cupboard; so if you think you lost them, please check there first. Resident Christmas Party What a fun evening, with family and friends, a wonderful prime rib dinner, champagne and entertainment.

Wit & Wisdom Valentine s Celebration Dance We will be having our annual Valentine s Dance on Tuesday, Feb. 14. The evening meal will be served at 5 p.m. for all residents; this will be open seating. At 6:30 p.m., Arlyn Willett will be here to entertain us for the dance. Please invite your family and friends to join you at 6:30 p.m. for music, treats and champagne. If you have family coming for the dance, please R.S.V.P. There is a sign-up sheet in the lobby book or stop by the office. Put on your dancing shoes for a wonderful evening! Happy Day Girl Scout Troop Our local Girl Scout Troop will be here on Saturday, February 11th, at 2:30 to visit and hand out Valentine s cards in the lobby. If you would like to get some cards to pass out to them, I m sure they would enjoy that. We will have some cookies to share with them. Soaring Eagle Casino We are going to try to get a trip in to the Casino on Thursday, Feb. 23rd. This is a hard time of year to plan a trip very far from home, so if the weather doesn t permit, we will cancel. Barb will notify you if the trip is cancelled. Also, we have had some interest in going to the Firekeepers Casino in Lansing; please see Barb if you would like to try that casino sometime in the future. Mardi Gras Party Let s have a Mardi Gras Party Tuesday, February 28th, at 2:30. We will have entertainment by Leonard Dow with beads, masks and, of course, king cake! Wear your purple, green and gold!

Talk About It Homeschool Students We had a group of homeschool students come in and sing carols for us this is the second year. There were quite a few students that played piano, from age 4 to 13. What a fantastic afternoon. New Year s Party We celebrated our New Year in the afternoon with entertainment, snacks and a champagne toast to ring in the new year. Mall Walking and Shopping We go to the Courtland Mall and walk twice a week for 45 minutes, Tuesday at 10:45 and Friday at 10am. If you would like to shop at JCPenney or any of the stores at the mall, you are more than welcome to ride along and go shopping. I am not putting JCPenney on the shopping list anymore, so sign up on the walking sheet if you want to shop. Our residents had their dancing shoes on ready to step into 2017 and our entertainer, Vern, sure knows how to get them going! We had quite a few laughs along with our residents who sang along.

Interesting Chocolate Facts By Brian K. Rosso, R.D. Chocolate is a food enjoyed by most people, especially at Valentine s Day. Here are some interesting facts about chocolate: Worldwide, consumers spend more than $20 billion per year on chocolate products. It takes about 400 cacao beans to create 1 pound of chocolate. Chocolate is a great source of antioxidants, which have been shown to reduce a person s risk of developing cancer or heart disease. Snickers is the No. 1 selling chocolate bar in the world. Eating dark chocolate in moderation can lower a person s cholesterol levels. Americans prefer milk chocolate over dark chocolate; however, the consumption of dark chocolate is increasing. Try to eat dark chocolate containing at least 40 percent cacao (will be stated on the chocolate candy wrapper) for the most health benefits. The first United States chocolate factory was built in 1765. The average American eats 12 pounds of chocolate every year. The first chocolate candy bar was made in 1842. Chocolate is made from cacao beans. However, the cacao bean is actually a seed. Happy Valentine s Day! Shrine Circus Our evening at the circus was a blast! We laughed and had such a great time and even the ride home was fun. It lasted longer than we thought so we were quite late getting home, but what an exciting evening! Flutterfly the clown stopped by to get pictures with us. Just a Reminder... PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT CIRCLE DRIVE Just a friendly reminder that the front entrance is for quick pickups and drop-offs only. EMS must have access as much as possible for the safety of residents. Cars parked at the front entrance for extended periods risk being towed.
