President s Report 2012/2013 Season As another season has now drawn to a close I would like to thank all parents who have assisted with the running of the club this year. From assistance at time trials, working bees, our own swim meet, to the required jobs at other swim meets our club attends. A special thank-you to the executive committee of Mike Wassing, Susie Hawke and Rob Gibson for the guidance and support they have provided me and the club throughout the year. As well as the executive, I would also like to thank the other members of the committee including Phil Downing (Sponsorship), Lynda Waller (Membership) and John Jordan (Racing Committee) who have also assisted us. This year the club has been successful in receiving a couple of grants that have allowed us to purchase some new equipment. Thanks to Chris Holmes for organising the grant we received from Fosterville mine for the trailer. We have taken the trailer to most of the country swim meets, enabling us to carry structures to provide shade to the swimmers and their families. Also thanks to Susie for the work she did in putting together the successfully application to Strathfieldsaye and District Community Enterprise. This allowed the club to purchase the underwater cameras and the TV for the coaches to use to further assist the swimmers in improving their stoke technique. In the pool again we have had a great season. It is pleasing to see the results achieved by all our athletes for the year with a number of PB s, Club Records, District Records, Country State records and Event records set throughout the year. These results go to show the commitment of our swimmers, parents and the support of our coaches. I would like to thank our coaches Tony, Chris, John, Val and Katie for their commitment to our club throughout the season, and to Melissa for assisting towards the end of the season. I would also like to acknowledge our sponsors for this year. This includes Bendigo Community Telco for supplying the ipads to assist the coaches; AFS for the support of the National team; Great Idea Awards and Gifts for the sponsorship of the State team; and to all the other sponsors who have supported the club throughout the year.

The club, as the committee of management for the pool, kept the facility open over the winter months with the assistance of the council. This was very well supported by the general public and the members of the swimming club. I would like to thank John Jordan and last year s committee for the work that they did in establishing this. The success of this initiative will allow the club to continue training at the Bendigo East Pool throughout the winter season this year, so once again we do not have to travel out to Eaglehawk for training. Just in finishing, congratulations to the 3 Girls (Bec, Kate and Isabella) who swam at National Open and\or Age. They represented the club well, and it was a great effort. It is also great to see swimmers that have previously swam for the club medalling at a national open level in Kane Johns, as a member of the Melbourne Vic Centre relay team, and Jenna Strauch, coming second in the 200m Breaststroke. Graeme Symons President Bendigo East Swimming Club Coaches Report 2012/2013 Season I would like to thank the generous sponsors of the Bendigo East Swimming Club Bendigo Community Telco (Platinum), Great Ideas Awards & Gifts (State Titles), & AFS Chartered Accountants (National Championships). These sponsors together with Bolton s Office National, Park Lane Holiday Park & the Rising Sun Hotel have greatly assisted us in preparing our swimmers for competition. Thank you to the hard working committee who over the past 12 months has overseen many improvements at the pool, and club in general, to assist our swimmers achieve the best they can. Having the pool available to our swimmers over the winter period gave us an extremely solid base to work on and the availability of a new TV & Camera set up & ipads helped in the improvement of all swimmers. To those families/swimmers that have joined the club in the last 12 months, we hope that you have enjoyed your experience of competition and look forward to building on that.

The Short Course season began with our junior swimmers in Ballarat. This was a lot of fun for these swimmers who over the course of the 4 meets made considerable improvements, even achieving qualifying times for some of the major meets. The Victorian Country Short Course was held in Wangaratta in August with a team of 20 swimmers representing the club. This proved to be quite a successful meet with almost all swimmers achieving at least 1 PB. Medallists included Rebecca Holmes (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze), Cameron Jordan (1 Bronze), Callum King (4 Gold, 3 Silver), Isabella Symons (2 Silver, 2 Bronze). A small team of 9 swimmers attended the State Age Short Course at MSAC in Melbourne, & 2 swimmers attended the State Open Short Course, with quite a number of PB s achieved. 70 swimmers represented the club at the Annual Bendigo East Meet in November. An excellent result which shows the club is in a very healthy state. The State Age Championships saw a team of 15 swimmers attending with all swimmers obtaining PB s along the way. Medallists were Isabella Symons (1 Silver & 2 Bronze) & Finalists Isabella (4), Cameron Jordan (1), Kate Jordan (3), Jacob Waller (5). The Victorian Country Championships in Sale saw a team of over 30 swimmers, with a number competing at this level for the first time. Medallists were Isabella Symons (3 Gold), Rebecca Holmes (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze), Thomas Hawke (2 Bronze), Kate Jordan (1 Silver), Jacob Waller (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Jack Beale (1 Bronze), Cameron Jordan (1 Gold). Finalists included Isabella Symons (6), Rebecca Holmes (5), Jacob Waller (3), Thomas Hawke (4), Kate Jordan (5), Kiara Verbeek (2), Anna Mittell (3), James Mittell (2), Jack Beale (1), Jarrod Slot (1), Cameron Jordan (1), Madeleine Hawke (1). A total of 75 PB s were achieved by our swimmers. Relays Boys 12 & Under Freestyle Bronze, Girls 14 & Under Medley Silver, Girls 16 & Under Medley Bronze, Boys 12 & Under Medley Silver. A fantastic result. The club finished 5th overall in the points score, 4th in the Women s & 7th in the Men s. The State Sprint Meet in February saw 30 swimmers compete with almost all swimmers obtaining a PB. Medallists included Rebecca Holmes (1 Bronze), Isabella Symons (2 Gold), Kiara Verbeek (1 Bronze) & Finalists Thomas Hawke (2), Rebecca Holmes (3),

Cameron Jordan (1), Kate Jordan (2), Isabella Symons (2), Kiara Verbeek (1) & Jacob Waller (4). The District Championships held again at Bendigo East saw a team of 58 swimmers representing the club, helping us once again retain the Overall, Men s & Women s Trophies. Both Kate Jordan & Rebecca Holmes shared the Senior Female Trophy with Jacob Waller the Senior Male award. The All Junior Finals in Melbourne saw 38 of our swimmers compete with all swimming creditably. We had 24 through to the finals on the Sunday. Medallists included Piper Dunlop (1 Bronze), Thomas Hawke (1 Bronze), Anna Mittell (1 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze), James Mittell (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Kaitlyn Morgan (1 Gold), Maggie Skewes (1 Bronze), Ethan Waller (1 Silver), Sophie Waller (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Imogen Wassing (1 Silver). The club once again were represented at both the National Age & National Open Championships in Adelaide. 3 swimmers for Age Rebecca Holmes, Kate Jordan & Isabella Symons & 2 for Open with Rebecca Holmes & Kate Jordan. The experience gained by these swimmers will hopefully inspire not only themselves but also other members of the club to reach this level.

Over the course of the year there were many records broken which are too numerous to mention here, however we would like to congratulate those swimmers who have achieved these results and look forward to many more being broken in the years to come. I would also like to congratulate former members Jenna Strauch who was placed 2nd in the Women s 200m Breastroke at the recent World Championships Trials in Adelaide and to Kayne Johns who was a member of the 3rd placed relay team for the Men s 4 x 100m Freestyle. Thanks also must go to the support received from fellow coaches Chris Geyer & John Jordan throughout this year. It was a difficult and trying year personally and their support was very much appreciated. And also to Val Campbell & Katie Scoble who prepared our younger swimmers to progress through the club, thank you very much. Also thanks to all the parents who have made the effort to have their children at training and competitions. Once again, to all our swimmers, congratulations on your efforts and achievements this season. We now need to build on the efforts of this year and look forward to the 2013/2014 season with enthusiasm. From the coaches perspective we are very proud of all your achievements.
