There was certainly a flurry of activity around the membership and treasurer s table at the last meeting. By the way, I heard that the Alaska trip was a great time. The whales swam right by the ship. How cool is that? The Park City Ski Trip in March is going strong. We have over 20 skiers signed up, but don t despair, there is still room for a few more. Buy a Big Lottery Ticket from Tim Crowley and maybe you will go for free. Make sure you talk with the trip leader, Bob Wirick. Also check out the info in the newsletter on the Learn to Ski Better Program at Snow Trails. There are some good deals that just might fit with your plans. Winter is coming to be sure. Now is the time to get those skis tuned, if you haven t already done so, so that you ll be ready. Maybe this is the year you should get a new jacket or new boots or new skis or Well it happened! A dozen folks on the Activities Committee met a few weeks ago and now we have more things to do than you can shake a ski pole at. Study your newsletters and get you calendars marked cuz you won t want to miss out on the fun. As always some of these require an early commitment. It seems tour operators, airlines, restaurants and resorts all want their earnest money a little earlier each year. So a Sure, I ll do that. It sounds like a good time and a few bucks deposit will keep the good times rolling. Page OCTOBER 2 2010 2 EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BIG RAFFLE but were afraid to ask. Q. Do I need to be at the drawing to win? A. No, We will notify winners by phone if they are not at the drawing. Really, we will. Q. Do I get anything if I sell the winning ticket? A. Well, not really. But you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you had the winning ticket in your hand, and sold it! Q. What are the odds of winning? A. About as good as witnessing the next Miller Moon. Q. No, really what are the odds of winning? A. Depends on how many tickets are sold, of course, but we only printed 300 tickets. 240 tickets need to be sold for the Park City grand prize. Q. What happens if less than 240 tickets are sold A. The Board has there next meeting in Las Vegas. Just dreaming The grand prize becomes a 50/50 drawing with the money that is raised from ticket sales. Q. What if the winning person has someone they would like to accompany them to Park City? A. We've made arrangements with the travel agent to hold a room for two with the second space for the winner s roomie. Q. How do I get tickets to sell? A. Call Tim at 740-328-9883 or ask him at the meetings or Happy Hours. This is a great way to help the Club if you are too shy to serve on the Board. So far, we have only sold 24 tickets, so we all need to get busy and sell 216 more or the Grand Prize will become a 50/50 raffle. Thanks! And all your help is greatly appreciated by the Board. OVSC SOUTH AMERICA TRIP Galapagos, Machu Picchu, Iguazu Falls and skiing in Argentina OVSC is still making plans to go to South America in August, 2011. Galapagos will be near the beginning of August, followed by Peru and then Argentina. Details are still being worked out but here's the basic information: They are now billing the trip as the Three Wonders Trip. The Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls are all considered Wonders of the. For those of you who haven't heard of it, Iguazu Falls is on the border of Argentina and Brazil. It is a waterfall deep in the rain forest, it is second to Niagara in volume, but is more impressive due to the spread of the falls, so that you can be surrounded 260 degrees by falls in some places. Also, we would get to spend time, including a hotel overnight, in the rain forest with birds and monkeys and the like. You may sign up for 1, 2 or all 3 legs of the trip as long as the 2 follow each other. The trip is being led by Holidaze, the group that has lead our European trips in the past. Current price /estimates/ are: Galapagos Islands $2,600 - $2,900 Peru and Machu Picchu $1,350 - $1,500 Buenos Aires, Argentina skiing and the Iguacu Falls $2,100 - $2,400 If you are even considering going, let Kathy or Bruce Kern know or this may be the last time we take up newsletter space

Page OCTOBER 4 2010 4 From the desk of your Activities Chairperson, Joe D. Phillips Hi All, 1. Well, Southeast Alaska was as spectacular and as beautiful as all the pictures we have seen. We visited 4 ports, rode trams up mountains, and sailed thru fjords. The ship even turned itself around within its diameter circle at the end of the Tracy Arm Fjord. Ray and Phyllis, Tina, Pam, Tiffany, Chris, June and I just had a glorious time! 2. We had a super fall weekend at Caesar Creek State Park!! June, Chris and I geocached the area and visited the Fort Ancient grounds and museum. Joe & Nancy, Tom & le, Jim & Ginny, Bruce & Cathy all bicycled 35 miles or was it 60??? On Sunday 27 others joined us for the ziplining down the Little Miami River Valley with the Ozone Adventures with the YMCA at Camp Kern! 3. So it seems that there are many fun activities with our ski club. Don't miss out on anything. Joe D Phillips Activities Chairperson cell 740-501-4323 YOUR VOTE IS NEEDED!!!
