PO Box 52, Goondiwindi Qld 4390 Phone: 0437 809 415 Email: goondiwindishow@bigpond.com www.goondiwindishow.com.au Like us on Facebook Goondiwindi Show Society Bio-security Policy The Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Society would like to outline to our valued equine club members, competitors and show exhibitors the Bio-security measures being put in place to mitigate risks of Hendra and other exotic diseases. The Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Society has been working closely with Bio-security Queensland and experienced Bio-security veterinarians to ensure sound measures are in place prior to any horse event being held at the Goondiwindi Showgrounds. The Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Society has been advised by these experts that with these measures in place there is no reason for horses not to be a part of any events held here in 2013 and beyond. The Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Societies first and only consideration is the health and safety of all people and animals that attend events held at the Goondiwindi Showgrounds. While the risk of people contracting Hendra virus is extremely low, the Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Society Bio-security Plan effective measures in place to mitigate these risks as advised by our veterinary experts and Bio-security Queensland. These measures will ensure the highest standard of Bio-security for horse competitors and exhibitors attending events here. As part of the Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Society Bio-security Plan, each horse competitor coming to the grounds is required to provide a signed Horse Health Declaration and Waybill Form as part of the entry process. This form provides a declaration by the horse owner or person in charge that the horse has been in good health, eating normally and has not shown any signs of illness leading up to entering the destination Goondiwindi Showgrounds. The form also meets the regulatory obligations required when travelling horses. This form is available at the Goondiwindi Show Office by emailing goondiwindishow@bigpond.com and the Secretary will forward one to you or by contacting the caretaker whilst on the grounds. Please contact the Show office on 0437 809 415 for further information. The Goondiwindi Show Society has also introduced additional Bio-security measures to specifically address risks of Hendra virus, a. Horse owners are to inform the Goondiwindi Pastoral & Agricultural Society of any horse with signs of ill health or have been associated with horses or properties under quarantine. b. Horses with signs of ill health are to be stabled in the appointed Bio-security area and a vet called. c. Stable users are required to adhere to comprehensive stable cleaning measures, ensuring the areas are thoroughly cleaned early each morning and limiting the feeding and watering of horses to their stables. d. Non stabled horses - owners are required to remove all waste materials, feed, water and containers from parked areas. Waste materials must be stored in dedicated Waste Areas. This includes all stables, day yards and horses tied to vehicles in Goondiwindi Showground parking areas. Bio-security Queensland has comprehensive information of horse owners, please visit www.dpi.qld.gov.au/4790_2900.htm 45 EQUESTRIAN EVENTS 9
