An Affiliated Chapter of Society of Decorative Painters www.osceoladecorativeartists.com Volumn 11, Issue 12 December 2017 Dear Members of ODA, Happy December and let the good times roll! Merry Christmas to All! It is the Season of Good Cheer and Happy Memories to be made when families gather together to celebrate Christmas. My, but this is a busy time of year. No wonder City sidewalks, busy sidewalks dressed in holiday style. In the air there s a feeling of Christmas. Besides Christmas, other celebrations like Kwanzaa and Hanukkah are celebrated. Did you know there are about 29 different holidays celebrated between Thanksgiving and January 1? No wonder we re busy! Happy Holidays! In this newsletter you will get all the information you ll need for our Christmas Party. Don t forget to bring your Decorative Dollars and REAL Money, too! The teacup raffle uses your Decorative Dollars and is always so much fun with loads of anticipation. What can I win? Oh, I hope I got the! And the food! Oh My! We re having a Real Money raffle for three really awesome pieces. Photos are here in the newsletter, I believe. I do know there s a really nice crafter s tote, a piece of crystal chip and dip bowl and a Native American inspired gourd painted by Jean. As I write this I realize this will be my last letter to you. It s been an interesting year, filled with wonderful painting times, sadness for losses and illnesses, and hope for a better tomorrow. This is my wish for you: Do Go forward and Be You! No one is quite like You. Believe in Yourself. Know what is right and what is not. The future will determine what You do today. I can only hope and trust our world will go on for eons in the future provided we safeguard it. Until I see you again, Mary December 2017 1

December 12 Hanukkah Begins Battle Of The Bulge summary: The Battle of the Bulge (December 16, 1944 January 16, 1945), also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was the largest battle fought on the Western Front in Europe during World War II; it is also the largest battle ever fought by the United States Army. It was a German offensive intended to drive a wedge between the American and British armies in France and the Low Countries and recapture the port of Antwerp in The Netherlands to deny the Allies use of the port facilities. The German codename for the buildup to the offensive was Watch on the Rhine (Wacht am Rhine). The actual offensive was codenamed Operation Autumn Mist (Unternehmen Herbstnebel). It fell far short of its goals but managed to create a bulge in the American lines 50 miles wide and 70 miles deep, which gave the struggle its alliterative name. December 2017 7
