Parish Fashion Show: The Parish Fashion Show will be held on March 7, 2017 at the Amite Elementary School for 6p.m. You need to be at the stage in your garment by 5:45 p.m. for a practice session. Scripts & Ready-to-Wear forms are due into the office no later than March 2nd by 4 p.m. 8 th - 12 th graders need to turn in garment and scripts on March 2 nd before 4 p.m. (Rules were in January Clovers) Ready to Wear forms are on last page of Clovers.

Beef Poster Contest: 4-H members may participate in the Beef Poster Contest by bringing their posters to the cookery on MARCH 7, 2017 at 6 p.m. or to the Amite 4-H Office by March 7th by 4:00 p.m. (Judged at Cookery) Beef Poster Contest Rules are: Poster must be made on 11" X 14" white poster board only. Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than 1/8 inch thick. Be sure to place your name, school, grade and parish on the back of the poster in the upper right corner. Beef Cookery Contest: The Beef Cookery will be held March 7, 2017 at the Amite Elementary School, beginning at 6 p.m. DISHES NOT CHILLED WILL BE DISQUALIFIED! The three divisions and their requirements are: Low-calorie Main Dish: a dish which provides less than 300 calories per serving. Calculations of calories must be shown on the recipe. Quick and Easy Main Dish: a dish that is ready to serve in less than one hour. The time needed for each step and for cooking or baking must be stated on the recipe form. One Dish Meal: a dish that provides foods from at least three of the main food groups. The food group must be stated on the recipe and can be found on www.myplate.gov. Contestants in all three divisions must: 1. Bring to the contest a prepared beef dish containing 1 pound of ground beef. This dish must be cold and only 1 serving needed. 2. Bring an 8 ½ x 11 copy of the recipe with the dish. Your name, school / division should be on the back. Recipes must be typed / written on a sheet of 8 ½ X 11 paper. (See complete recipe rules below) Recipes may be used in publicity and printed on publications by the donors. 3. A contestant may enter as many divisions as he or she wishes, but may only enter one dish per division & can win overall in only one of the divisions. All parish contestants will receive ribbons. Overall winners will receive an award and represent the Parish in the Southeast Culinary Arts Contest competition. 4. A) Recipe - correct format and requirements - 15 points, B) Appearance / Presentation- 35 points, and C) Taste 50 points. **PLEASE NOTE: Participants are NOT to deliberately enter more than one entry of the SAME DISH in the same category. For example, you may not cook one dish and have two siblings/classmates/etc. enter the identical dishes** ***************FOR ALL COOKERIES NON-edible items are NOT to be presented as part of your dish or as garnish. Only edible items can be used as garnish. Dishes are not allowed to be displayed with any type of decorations or items not directly related to the dish such as placemats, trays, flowers, or figurines. Sugar Cookery Contest: The Sugar Cookery will be held March 7, 2017 at the Amite Elementary School, beginning at 6 p.m. The contest will be divided into four divisions: 1-Cakes, 2-Candy, 3-Cookies, and 4-Pies. DISHES NOT CHILLED WILL BE DISQUALIFIED! Contestants in all four divisions must: 1. Bring a prepared sugar dish to the contest. This dish must be cold and you should bring one (1) serving. The dish must use at least one-half (1/2) cup of sugar. The sugar used in the recipe may be granulated sugar, brown (light or dark) sugar, powdered sugar, or any combination of the above. Mixes are permitted as long as 1/2 cup of additional sugar is added to the recipe. There can be NO raw eggs in the final product. (See complete recipe rules below) 2. Bring an 8 ½ x 11 copy of the recipe with the dish. Your name, school / division should be on the back. Recipes must be typed / written on a sheet of 8 ½ X 11 paper. 3. A contestant may enter as many divisions as he or she wishes, but may only enter one dish per division and can win overall in only one division. All parish contestants will receive ribbons. Overall winners will represent the Parish in the Southeast Culinary Arts Contest competition. 4. Commodity Ambassador Program see below for guidelines (Illustrated Talks) Division I (Grades 4-6) Contestant: a. designs a standard poster 22 x 28 relating to one of the five topics concerning Beef/Sugar: 1- production, 2 - food preparation and nutritive value, 3- food safety, 4- processing, 5- marketing b. presents a 2-3 minute explanation of poster subject c. responds to questions from judges. Division II (Grades 7-9) Contestant: a. designs a standard poster 22 x 28 relating to one of the five topics concerning Beef/Sugar: - production - food preparation and nutritive value - food safety - processing - marketing b. prepares an essay not to exceed 500 words or 3 typed pages, double spaced, about the selected subject c. presents a 2-3 minute explanation of subject d. responds to questions from judges. Division III-(Grades 10-12) 1. The contestant will present a 5-8 minute oral presentation following current guidelines of the Beef / Sugar commodity illustrated talk contests. Posters or PowerPoint presentations may be used. Costumes based on theme are acceptable. No notes or outlines, other than wording on the poster are to be used while giving the presentation. Congratulations to 4-H ers Makayla Husser, from Loranger Elementary, who won 2 nd Place, in Division I and Jordan Mazzeno, from Ponchatoula High won 1 st place, and Claire O Neill from Tangi Youth Club won 2 nd place in Division 11 in the 2017 Southeast District Jr. Livestock Poster contest. Record Books Due Soon: Portfolios were given out at the January meetings and record books will be picked up at your March meeting or you can bring them to our office no later than March 20 th by 4:30 p.m.. Only 4-Hers who complete and turn in a Record Book will be eligible to attend 4-H Fest. 4-H Club Banner for Achievement Day: Banners are due at 4H Fest. Your banner will need to be made in the same dimension so that all school 4-H banners will be of the same size. The dimensions will be: Length: 5 feet and Width: 2 feet.
