OFFICIAL PLAYOFF TENNIS BALL Penn sports will be providing all the section playoff tennis balls and will be the official tennis ball for the CIF San Diego section Boys Tennis Playoffs. 2. QUALIFYING Team There will be four playoff divisions in the San Diego CIF Boys Team Championships Open, Divisions 1,2, and 3. Each league champion (not co-champion or tri-champion league must designate a champion for seeding purposes) shall be guaranteed entry. The remaining entries shall be selected at-large. Teams are asked to enter all schedules, rosters and scores into MaxPreps.com and CIF Home Campus (homecampus.com). This will allow the Tennis Advisory Committee to check and verify team records to accurately seed all teams into their respective divisions. Schedules and scores should be entered into CIFSDS home and to Max Preps to insure all information is up to date. Rosters must be entered into each site. Please ensure that all information is correct. If a league champion is not seeded into the playoffs, the champion will host a play-in game versus the lowest seeded team in that division. If more than one league champion is not seeded, the highest ranking league champion will play the lowest seeded team, the 2nd highest ranked league champion will play the 2nd lowest seeded team, etc. The play-in game will be held prior to the first round game in that sport. League champions will host play-in games. League champions will host 1st round games unless playing a higher seeded league champion or playing a team seeded #1-#4 or league champion has hosted a play-in game. This accommodation does not apply to playoffs that begin with the quarterfinal round. 1

Individual All leagues shall enter five singles players and five doubles teams into the single elimination San Diego CIF Boys Individual Tennis Championships. In addition, 5 at-large singles players and 5 at-large double teams will be selected to complete the draw. Entry fee of $10.00 per athlete or $50.00 per team will be assessed to each school to defray the cost of conducting the individual tournament. The school finance office will be invoiced per entries submitted at seeding meeting. The payment of entry fees must be made by June 4, 2018. Eligibility Reminder: To be eligible for CIFSDS tournaments student athlete must have played in 50 percent of league matches and 50 percent of the total points allowed (Teams must play in at least 10 matches this season) In addition teams must have at least 2 additional non-league contests for their power ranking to be considered valid. Teams that do not meet this criteria will have their power rankings considered invalid and can be placed at the discretion of the tennis advisory committee. League champions that do not meet this criteria may be considered the lowest seed in their respective division and may have to host a play - in match. If your athlete has not competed in at least 10 matches the attached waiver form must be submitted and approved in order to compete in the CIFSDS Team and/or Individual Championships The CIFSDS Permission to Compete in Team and individual Championships form must be submitted and approved by April 26, 2017 to be eligible. The form may also be found on the CIFSDS website under Boys Tennis and Misc. Forms CIFSDS Waiver- Permission to Compete The state CIF entry form\information forms must be submitted by April 25, 2018. TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - DATES, SITES, TIMES Division I,II,III-Play-in Round, Monday, April 30, 2018 (if necessary) If necessary, there will be a play-in game between a League Champion not in the Top 16 seeds and the lowest seeded team in the Division. The League Champion will host the match. Starting time not before 3:00 p.m. Open Division Quarterfinals, Division I,II,III- Round, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 Home site determination shall be made by the school with the higher seed. Unless paired against a lower seeded league champions. Courts may be those of the home school. Starting time not before 3:00 p.m. Open Division Semifinals, Division I, II, III Quarterfinals, Wednesday, May 2, 2018 Home site determination shall be made by the school with the higher seed. INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS (All matches at the Balboa Tennis Club,)-Kevin Brown, Tournament Director and Second Rounds (Singles only) Monday, May 14, 2018 - Start time 1:00 p.m. (check in at 12:30 p.m.) and Second Rounds ( only) Tuesday May 15, 2018- Start Time 1:00 p.m. (check in at 12:30 p.m.) Third Round and feed-in round (Singles and ) Wednesday, May 16, 2018 - Start Time 1:00 p.m. (check in at 12:30 p.m.) Quarterfinals and Semifinals (Singles and ) Thursday, May 17, 2018 - Start time 1:00 p.m. (check in at 12:30 p.m.) Finals Friday May 18, 2018 Start Time 1:00 p.m. ( Check in time 12:30 p.m., Singles check in at 2:00 p.m.) **The Balboa Tennis Club is located at 2221 Morley Field Drive, S.D., CA. 92104** NOTE: AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CIF- SAN DIEGO SECTION THE ABOVE CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE(S) MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANYTIME. 6. TEAM COMPOSITION / FORMAT Each team shall consist of three singles players and three doubles teams. No student may play in both singles and doubles in the same match. Team - Round Robin: Each participant plays Singles or but not both. Scoring will be one point for each Singles and one point for each set won. Ties in match scoring will be resolved by counting games won in Singles and. If a tie should still exist, sets won in will determine the winning team. Matches will be one set of regular scoring against each opponent with a 12-point tie breaker played when any set is tied six games each. Individual - Format of the matches will be: round through Semifinals will be the best of two tiebreak sets with a match tiebreak to decide the match in the event of split sets The Singles and finals will be the best of three tiebreak sets Scoring will be regular scoring unless modified by the Advisory Committee 7. STATE CIF RULE 307 In accordance with State CIF Rule 307, athletes will not be permitted to check in at the San Diego CIF Team or Individual Tournaments without being accompanied by a coach or supervisor designated by the school. The Tournament Director will strictly enforce this requirement. The following penalties shall be invoked for failure of athletes or coaches/ (school designated supervisors) to appear on time: If late for match 5 minutes or less - loss of toss plus one game. 5:01 to 10 minutes late - loss of toss plus two games. 10:01 to 15 minutes late - loss of toss plus three games. More than 15 minutes late - match will be defaulted. SCHOOL DESIGNATED SUPERVISORS (OTHER THAN HEAD VARSITY COACHES) MUST CHECK IN WITH THE TOURNAMENT OR MATCH DIRECTOR WITH A SIGNED BOYS TENNIS CERTIFICATION OF AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL FORM (ATTACHED TO COACH S/ATHLETIC DIRECTOR S COPY OF THIS BULLETIN). (PLEASE NOTE: FORMS ARE NOT TO BE FORWARDED TO THE CIFSDS OFFICE.) 3

8. WARM-UPS Warm-ups on the court will be confined to a period of five minutes including serves. Coaches will be called upon by the Tournament Management to supervise courts during the warm-up period. 9. OTHER RULES No new match to start after 6:00 p.m. Time between matches is up to 20 minutes. If a match goes more than three (3) hours, the break times will be at the discretion of the tournament director. 10. WEARING APPAREL No San Diego Section school team or individual will be permitted to compete unless wearing matching school shirt (may be t-shirt) and shorts or dresses/skirts of a common color. Players shall be dressed identically (must be dressed identically), including stripes or patterns on shorts). Team or individuals will default from tournament when discovered in illegal uniform (GREEN BOOK ARTICLE 27, SPECIAL RULES (PAGE 64). 11. SEEDING Conducted by Kevin Brown (Seeding Chair) Team - All teams each in Division Open, I, II, and III team tournaments will be seeded, without regard to league champions, by the Commissioner s Office with input from the CIFSDS Boy s Tennis Seeding Committee The Open Division will be determined according to the Power Rankings. The Top 8 Teams at the conclusion of the regular season will make up the Open Division. As much as possible, the remaining teams will be placed in the draw according to relative strength. The seeding meeting for the Team playoffs will be held on Saturday, April 28, 10:00 a.m., at Cathedral Catholic High, Assisi Lecture Hall. Only coaches who are members of the seeding committee shall be permitted to vote during the seeding process. NOTE: Coaches must attend seeding meeting to properly ensure that accurate information is presented. Individual - The top one-fourth of the draw in singles and doubles will be seeded by the Boys Tennis Advisory Committee. The remainder of the entries will be placed by the tournament committee based on schools and leagues. The seeding meeting for the Individual Tournament will be held on Thursday, May 10, 5:30 p.m., at Cathedral Catholic High ; Assisi Lecture Hall. Only members of the Advisory Committee shall be permitted to vote during the individual seeding process. NOTE: Coaches must attend seeding meeting to properly ensure that accurate information is presented. LEAGUE REPRESENTATIVES: Prior to the seeding meetings, please gather the following: 1. Completed forms (first and last names and grade level for singles and doubles players) for your league entries into the Individual Tournament (forms will be sent to you in the individual seeding meeting notice). 2. Information provided to you by coaches which will aid the seeding process. 3. Criteria for Seeding Meetings - To reduce the amount of time needed to select at-large entries and seed the individual tournaments, the advisory committee has established the following criteria (in rank order) for singles, doubles, and at- large selections. 4.
