Put it on your calendar because we know how December tends to fill up! More details to come. Doug and Jan Happening This Week Friday, November 6 Of Interest Visit to Texas Reelers Veterans Day Dance: Early Rounds: 7:30PM. Grand March: 8:00PM at the Richardson Senior Center Saturday, November 7 Of Interest Visit to Solitaires Bennett s Back Dance: Early Rounds: 7:00PM. Grand March: 8:00PM at the Garland Senior Center. Sunday, November 8 Swinging Stars Semi-Annual General Meeting 3:00PM at Spring Creek BBQ in Richardson, TX Round Dance Lessons Announcements Don't miss the next set of round dance lessons! JL and Linda will be teaching Beginning Rumba and Cha Cha starting Tuesdays January 12 at Carpenter Rec Center. The Latin rhythms are the easiest to learn and if you have never had any round dance lessons, it's a great rhythm to start with. Look for the class in the next Parks and Rec Catalog coming out in late fall, Course # 174456. Lessons will be held at the same time (7:15 to 9:15) on Tuesdays and will be held in the same room used in the past. JL and Linda will follow the beginning class with an intermediate class starting in late March so you will learn enough Rumba and Cha Cha to dance any of those rhythms at any square dance you attend. Plus -- you get two rhythms for one set of lessons.

Advance notice: JL and Linda will also be teaching a Saturday Refresher Workshop class at Plano Senior Center starting in January. This class will be held Saturday mornings from 9:45 to 11:45. Curriculum for this class will be set by the participants who sign up for the class. It will be a great opportunity to refresh some past lessons and improve your dancing abilities in a variety of square dance level rounds. Square Dance Lessons Square dance lessons are going to be happening at the same time in the same building in a different room. Have you started making your contact list yet? We would like to have them turned in by Dec. 1 st so you still have time. Remember, many hands make light work. If we all do a little we can have a GREAT class in January. Please include name, address, phone number, and email address. Thanks for your help and cooperation. (Helen Feldman came up with a great idea. You can still wear your Ask me about Square Dancing t-shirt even though the weather is getting cooler. Just wear a long sleeve shirt underneath.) Cash Holiday Gift for Miguel Miguel Angel is the Shepard Custodian, supporting our needs for the club dance. Please be generous and contribute to his Cash Holiday Gift from the Swinging Stars. Last year we were able to give him a $300 cash gift. We need your support to match that this year! Thank you! Linda and Charlie Our new Executive Board candidates We re happy to announce the new slate of officers to be presented at the next general club meeting on Sunday November 8 th at Spring Creek Bar B Que in Richardson. Please attend, as several items requiring a vote are on the agenda. President Bob and Kathy Estep 1 st VP Russ and Anne Nejdl 2 nd VP Jim and Knarik Bondi Treasurer Dan and Nina Lassiter Secretary Bill and Wendy Perrott Presented by the nominating committee, Charlie and Linda Harris Swinging Stars Holiday Party! They continue to support our favorite activity. The event begins with happy hour (margaritas, beer and soft drinks) at 6pm followed by a BBQ dinner and dancing. The cost is $19.00 per person or $38.00 per couple. Make checks payable to Betty Wheaton 6102 Lakeshore Drive, Rowlett, Texas 75089. NO CHECKS payable to Swinging Stars. Hope to see everyone there! Need a club roster on your smart phone?? You can put our club roster on your mobile device (cell phone, PDA, tablet, etc.) by importing a commaseparated values version from Andy Piziali or Dave Burson. A special thanks to Andy Piziali and Dave Burson who have been working on this. If you have any questions you can contact them.

* * * From Your 2 nd VP s, Dave and Lorraine Burson* * * 2 nd VP Report for November 1, 2015 Callers Cavalcade Friday October 30 North Texas Callers Association There were 38 Swinging Stars attending the Callers Cavalcade Friday night. Wayne did a fantastic job calling with Rick Smith. Also Richard Covington called a tip and the reports were that he also did a great job. For any club that attends this year s Cavalcade with one square or more, those clubs will be placed in a special drawing. The NTCA will draw 2 of the clubs names. The winning clubs will receive $50 as a Thank You from the NTCA. The drawing will be held in January of 2016. I believe this will be at the Caller of the Year dance. I usually don t add the names of those attending the Cavalcade and Roundup in fear of missing someone. But Bob Esteps gave me a list of everyone attending the Cavalcade. Thank you to: P. Amy, Bergesens, Bondis, Colters, Duncans, Esteps, Evantos, Hamms, Harrises, Hawkins, Kerns, Lassiters, Pitts, Rows, Sees, Hardin/Smith, and C. Wolfe. Adding to the total of Swinging Stars were the Baldwins, Covingtons, and Peltons that were calling or cueing in the event. Thank you all so much for attending and representing the Swinging Stars. I apologize if you attend and were left of the list. Round-Up 2015 Saturday October 31 & November 1 NORTEX Square and Round Dance Association Come Sail Away WOW! I believe this is the best Round up that NORTEX has had in a few years. What can I say, it was Jerry Story. We had 57 Swinging Stars attending. It is my belief that we had the most club members attending. All I can say if you are one of the Stars that missed the Jerry Story calling, you really missed out on a fast paced energetic day of dancing. We had 2 couples win Featured Prizes. Bob and Terri Pitts won the STAMPEDE PLUS WEEKEND Feb. 26-28, 2016 in Paris, TX with Jerry Story and Toni Oxendine Registration Fee Donated by Stampede Staff. PLUS $150 cash donated by NORTEX. The second lucky Swinging Star couple is Harry and Zari Kilejian. These two Swinging Stars are the lucky recipients of the NORTEX Club donating 1 Ticket for 2 dancers to get in free to a dance Plus $100 cash. These 2 prizes are very cool! Some of our Swinging Star round dancers attended the Saturday morning and afternoon round dance teaches and had a great time. Karen and Ed Gloodt taught a wonderful phase 4 jive called You're Sixteen, and Christine and Theron Hixon taught a fun phase 2 2-step called Let's Get It While the Gettings Good, and a beautiful phase 3 waltz called Winter or Fall. Karen and Christine took turns cueing waltzes, 2-steps, rhumbas, chas, tangos, foxtrots, and even a quickstep during the mixed level dance requests hour. Saturday evening Karen and Christine cued all three earlier dance teaches, as well as many other crowd favorites during early rounds and the rounds between tips Attending the Round up were Amys, Baldwins, Bergesens, Bondis, Bursons, Colters, Covingtons, Duncans, Esteps, Evantos, Feldmans, Halvorsons, Hamms, Harrises, Hawkins, Putnam-Heintzs, Kerns, Kilejians, Lassiters, Lees, Perrotts, Pittses, Pizialis, Schweers, Sees, Sherrells, Hardin/Smith, Stuarts, and C. Wolfe. We also had Doug and Donna Williams, one of our student couples that is taking square dance lessons, attend the Student Dance on Saturday morning. They did quite well. They decided to stay and do 2 or 3 tips of the Mainstream-dancing segment in the afternoon activities. Thanks to everyone that attended this wonderful dance and a special thank you to Terri Pitts for writing the Round Dance report portion of this Round up report. I am truly sorry if anyone s name got left off either list for attending. It is very hard to see all that are attending, because of being in different rooms and such a large group of people. Banner Report Since the Rebel Rousers has our banner, I have changed the November 21 st visitation dance to the Rebel Rousers to an Official Dance. We currently have 10 banners captured. As usual if you are visiting one of the clubs listed and they want to give you a banner, don t accept it.

Official Visitation Double Signature Thursday, November 12, Lone Star Solos 51 st Anniversary Dance The Promenade has the wrong information on the back page and in their ad. For round dancing pleasure there will be the well-known Jack von der Heide cueing. There are going to be door prizes and food galore. We all know the hall is the best dance hall in NORTEX. Early rounds are at 7:00 and the Grand March is at 7:30. So don t be late! You can check the menu and for directions at www.thecheesecakefactory.com. In addition to wide choices of selections on the regular menu, there is also a Skinny Licious menu and gluten free items are marked on both menus. Valet parking is complimentary with your receipt and is available on the level directly below the restaurant. There is ample self-parking area in front of the restaurant.

A personal note from Lucy about the menu: FYI, I treated my college roommate to a birthday lunch yesterday. She chose the Cheesecake Factory (she lives in Plano so we met there). I chose a delicious salad from the Skinny Licious menu and I asked about gluten free selections for Paula. The server pointed out the symbols on both menus. Paula said hers was delicious too. (She was my 1st college roommate and Ralph was my 12th). Dance of Interest Double Deal Dance Friday, November 20 T-Square Gadabouts Turkey Shoot Dance Turkeys will be invading the Swingtime Center.
