DEVON AND CORNWALL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE We have had a brilliant response for the Cornwall and Devon Golf Development Conference on Wednesday 16 th January at Trethorne Golf Club. The Conference is now full up with eighty five people signed up to the event from both Cornwall and Devon, and it will be fantastic to have Golf Club Secretaries, Junior Organisers, Club Volunteers and PGA Golf Professionals at the seminar. The Conference will focus on the key areas for future golf club development and brings together some of the best practice examples from the last four years across Cornwall and Devon. Cornwall Golf Open Weekend and Cornwall Golf Week There are two exciting projects coming up in March and April to get more people into golf. The first project is the Cornwall Golf Open Weekend on Saturday 23 rd and Sunday 24 th March 2013. The idea of the Open Weekend is for beginners and non-members to turn up at golf clubs and driving ranges and have a free try of golf. The second project is Cornwall Golf Week and this is scheduled for the week during the Masters, starting on Monday 8 th April through to Sunday 14 th April. This is the third year that the Cornwall Golf Partnership will take part in a countywide golf week and will include public venue events in town centres and free golf coaching at golf clubs and driving ranges. Nigel Edwards England Golf s Performance Director Nigel Edwards is the Keynote speaker and each topic at the Conference has been carefully chosen, with all speakers having many years experience in a variety of golf performance and development scenarios. We are currently compiling a reserve list for the Conference and if you would like to add your name to the reserve list please contact Simon. We are hoping to have as many golf clubs, driving range and pitch and putts to work with us during these two projects and get more than 1,000 people trying golf in Cornwall during March and April.
CHRISTMAS COUNTY ACADEMY AT TREVOSE The third session of the Cornwall County Academy programme was a great success at Trevose Golf Club. Forty juniors from all over the county took part in a nine hole texas scramble competition around the short course and team skills challenge. The juniors were partnered in teams and there were prizes for the top three teams in both the texas scramble competition and team skills challenge. County Academy Winners at Trevose Five of the County Academy professionals were on hand to help organise the day and to give advice to the juniors. It was fantastic to see so many juniors take part in the session and the Cornwall Golf Partnership would like to thank Trevose Golf Club for hosting the session. Level 1 course The next Level 1 course is on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February at China Fleet Golf Club. A Level 1 volunteer can assist PGA Level 2 or 3 coaches in the golf coaching at their clubs and is suitable for junior organisers, parents, elite young players and budding golf professionals. The closing date for the Level 1 course is on Friday 11th January. Contact Simon for an application pack or more information.
