SCHOOL SCOOPS November 14, 2014 Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. -- Luke 18:1 FRIENDS: We simply cannot say thank you enough to everyone who helped make the 2014 STA Gala & Auction a success. Whether you were a member of the organizing committees, a volunteer who helped set-up or tear down, someone who donated an item for bidding, one of our tremendous sponsors, or you simply attended and enjoyed a great night with us, thank you. You have made a difference in the continued growth and achievement of our parish and school. We are so proud of our St. Thomas community and how everyone stepped up to make everything happen. INDIANA YOUNG BIRDER S CLUB If you like to look at birds, you should check out this club. The Indiana Young Birder's Club (indianayoungbirders.org) is a state wide club whose goal is to support young people and encourage them to learn to love birds and nature. The organization is run by youth with the help of an adult team. Their main activities are planning birding trips that anyone can go to. They also have a conference in the summer with talks and activities for young birders. If you want to join, there is a Fledgling group for kids up to age 11 and a Young Birder's group for youth ages 12-21. Their next outing is a trip to the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center on Saturday, December 13. Go to the website for more details. Interested kids can get a free bird field guide by writing an essay about birds or some other nature experience and saying why they would like to have a guide. Go to this link for the application: http://www.indianaaudubon.org/indianayoungbirders/guidegiveawayapplicationform/tab id/376/default.aspx BLUE FRIDAY November 21 Students, faculty and staff may wear Colts team jerseys or shirts or blue and white tops to support the team. Trainers from the Colts organization will be here Friday morning to work with our 7 th and 8 th grade students. Thanks to Mrs. Courtney for arranging this.

Save the Date: Beginner s Clinic and Refresher Nov. 23th If interested, call or email Coach Hasbrook (info below) Rams Wrestling 2014/2015 After a very successful first four years on the mats, the St. Luke/IHM Wrestling Program will continue our ascent to a much anticipated CYO City Championship. We would love to have any and all boys in grades K 8 no matter his weight or stature. We are starting with basics. No previous knowledge of the sport is necessary! Wrestling will contribute to your son s athletic diversity utilizing much of the following: Leverage Balance Hand Strength Physical Strength Foot quickness Self-Defense Most importantly, your son will have the benefit of increasing his mental toughness. We will work on various strategies and mental strength exercises to maximize confidence on the mat and in life. And, after coaching 4 th grade football the last two seasons, it is no coincidence that our best tacklers were my last year s wrestlers. We have assembled some of the best coaches in the Indianapolis metro area for this sport for practices starting as soon as January 11 th. CYO Basketball will be over! We will be hosting a Beginner s Clinic at St. Maria Goretti on November 23 th. If you want to feel out the sport with your son, this would be a great place to learn. We will assure you that your son will be more physically competitive and mentally prepared for all other sports if he participates in wrestling this year. We look to grow on the 50 wrestlers we had last season. We have a very strong group returning. If you want more information on the program, pictures from last season, and CYO City Finalists, check us out on the St. Luke Rams Wrestling page on Facebook. Feel free to Like Us too!

For any questions, concerns, interest in coaching, or learning the sport, please contact Coach Ryan Hasbrook at rdhasbrook@brooksource.com/317-714-0034 for St. Luke or Coach Dan Ryan dryan@ryanfp.com for IHM/STA. I would love to get some preliminary numbers. If you think your son will be mildly interested in the clinic, please email or call ASAP. Thanks! Once you ve wrestled, everything in life is easy Dan Gable RAMS Wrestling 2015 Wrestling Rams 2015 Things you need to know Where: Indiana School for the Blind (76th and College) Upon entering the campus at the Y, merge left, and follow it back to the gym area. Basketball Players: With 140 boys playing in grades 5-8, it is a major influencer on wrestling for start time. I am going to start conducting practice early for boys interested in fine tuning wrestling with open mats on 1/6/14. All boys playing basketball should report to practice as soon as their team is eliminated or championships obtained at or around January 29 th. I have a few wrestlers that are not playing basketball and we need all the time on the mat we can find to learn the sport. Why: Too numerous to mention. If you need clarity, call me. What I need from you: We have over 40 kids signed up from 6 grades. We have to fill 18 weight classes from 65lbs to 275lbs. I need boys of all shapes and sizes. All boys will have matches in every competition. The more we have, the merrier we will be. There are no evaluations. Spread the word at basketball games, in church, and around school.
