Medstead Mirror Medstead Central School Newsletter www.lskysd.ca/school/medstead Principal s Pen June has arrived. Last month of the school year. So much happening. Elementary track and field. Some field trips. Some final projects and assessments. And, of course, Graduation. To all our students, we say the same thing every year FINISH STRONG. Our school has 11.25 teachers. Next year, there will be considerable changes to almost every one of their roles in our school. As a new administrative team helps shape the future of our school, everyone s responsibilities will look a bit different in the fall. To quote Shrek, Change is good donkey! Change can bring some uncertainty and anxiety, but also it brings renewal and motivation. I was in Tim Horton s the other day and a young person in line was having a fit because the workers behind the counter were not processing the line up fast enough. It was a slow process, but the servers were working very hard at getting orders filled as quickly as they could. The person in line became quite vocal about how much time they were waiting in line. It was not as wild as some of the stuff we have witnessed on TV recently, but it was upsetting. I feel that too many people have developed an attitude that the world owes them something and that they deserve to be treated special. We all deserve respect and have basic human rights, but we do not have the right to berate people for insignificant reasons. If we all treat each other with respect and have tolerance, I feel much of the stress of this world would disappear. I do not want to be alarmist, but I want parents to talk to their children about the reality of tick bites. This spring we have had a few students tell us that they have had ticks removed from behind their necks or in their ears. Kids have to play outside, so we are just trying to be as safe as we can. One month of school to go. Thought for the month: The solution to adult problems tomorrow depends in large measure upon how our children grow up today. Margaret Mead Yet another thought If you are not introspective, you should take a long hard look at yourself. June Medstead Mirror Page 4 Sports Division Track and Field May 23/24 was the District Track and Field Meet in North Battleford. Club Med sent 33 athletes to this year s event. We had super-hot weather for Wednesday where several athletes qualified for Provincials. Reece Janzen and Charm Henderson both qualified in their respective hurdle races and Austyn Hundt qualified in the Jr. girls shot put. Jenae Knot was first in the 400 and second in the 100 meter races and Madison Kohl qualified in the 1500. Later that day Marshal Egeland placed second in Sr. Boys shot put. Charm placed second in high jump to finish off Wednesday. Thursday saw the morning much cooler, but Club Med continued to rack up provincial spots. Kyle Knot qualified in the 800 m as did Madison Kohl. Jenae made it through in the 3000. Our final athlete to qualify was Wendal Egeland in the midget boys discus. Congratulations to our eight provincial athletes. We will be cheering June 1-2 as they compete at the SHSAA Provincial Meet in Prince Albert. Check the SHSAA website for results and placings. We had many more athletes who did exceptionally well. Personal bests and lots of ribbons for many of the Club Med competitors. Peewee and Bantam athletes are unable to compete at provincials but for the bantams we look forward to next year when they are midgets!! In special note, Jenae Knot was awarded the bronze medal for Jr. Girls Aggrogate. Congratulations J. Thank you to all the athletes for their hard work and dedication. A special acknowledgement to Dawson Hill, Charm Henderson, Ayden McClean, Burke Sherman and Kyle Knot. These graduating athletes represented our school very well for the past many years. We wish you well! Coaches Knot, Hill, Schneider and Caffet

There will be about 600 kids here and we are looking for leaders to help take small groups of children around from event to event. You do NOT need to know how to run the events to be a leader. You just need to be able to hand out ribbons and not lose kids. If you aren t comfortable leading a group, we could also use volunteers in our kitchen that day. If you are able to help us out, please contact the school (342-4600) as soon as possible, and let us know your preference. Thank you!
