Anaheim, California 92801 118.06176 West VOLUME: 4 FEBRUARY Y2K+12 ISSUE: 36 2010-2012 SHIPS OFFICERS Captain/Newsletter Publisher: Bob Tiscareno (562) 547-1488 Executive Officer: Jim Shultz (562) 698-4315 Secretary: Gene Sauter (626) 968-4856 Treasurer: Frank Milowicki (714) 633-4037 Maritime Modelers FEBRUARY 2012 BOAT OF THE MONTH Maritime Modelers is proud to announce this month s selection for BOAT OF THE MONTH For the very first time, this month s honor of Boat of the month goes to two individuals. The first person is Will Oudmayer who built this ship, and the second is Bob Tiscareno, who now owns it. Read all about this beautiful and superbly built model in the following page, and see more beautifully detailed digital images of it.

FEBRUARY 2012 BOAT OF THE MONTH CONTINUED This month s honor really belongs to Will Oudmayer, but because Bob Tiscareno now owns it, it s only fair to include the new owner. Bob bought this boat from Will last month, and he is just amazed at the quality of the build of this ship. As in all of the boats/ships that Will has built, this one has got to be the best. At least in the eyes of the new owner. In the images below you will see many of the incredible features of this boat that make it very unique. Pictured Above Left; is the impressive and highly detailed wheelhouse of the Oranje 1 complete with working navigation lights and rotating radar. Pictured Above Center; are the twin anchors mounted to the rear of the vessel. With the power that this boat has, if you were to attempt to retrieve the anchors, and they were caught on something, you would probably pull the boat under. Pictured Above Right; is a digital image of the row-boat that is mounted to the rear of the vessel. Pictured Above Left; are the twin anchor winches. Pictured Above Center; are various item attached to the deck that would be needed for the daily operations of this vessel. Pictured Above Right; are the three impressive Kort Nozzels that give the vessel it s incredible pulling and pushing power. (Note the three split rudders).

Pictured Previous Page Left; is a view of the upper part of the super structure. Pictured Previous Page Center; is a view of one of the few crewmen that are needed for the daily operations of this vessel. Pictured Previous Page Right; is a close up view of the massive three Kort Nozzels that give this boat it s impressive power. Again! Congrats Will and Bob! ARG! MATEY S HERE BE A MESSAGE FROM YE CAPTAIN. Happy Year To All! Greetings to all. I hope that the new year has treated you all very well. It s been good to me so far. We have a little to talk about this issue, so go into the kitchen grab a cold one, or hot! Take off your shoes, and read. CAPTAIN BOB One of the very first things that we will need to talk about are the upcoming elections. I will need your help, as some of our members need a break from the politics of the club. Frank Milowicki, and Jim Shultz both have decided to not hold their office this year for personal reasons. I have one individual who has volunteered to help, and that is Armando Leriget. He has come forward to step into the position of Executive Officer. I thank him for coming forward. If you should want to run for office, please see me at the club meetings, or drop me a line or e-mail. The offices are; Captain, Executive Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, and Newsletter Publisher. The ballots for this election will be mailed out to all members with a club addressed stamped envelope to make it easy for you to mail back to me. If you would like to run for office, or would like to nominate someone, please make sure that you ask that person if they want to accept the nomination. Complete the ballot form and mail back to me as soon as possible. The results of the elections will be posted in the March issue of the newsletter. Well, that s all about the elections. Next month there will be a new article in the newsletter called The Dry- Dock. What this will be is a article which will show the progress of something that you are building. That should be really cool to see your projects from concept to completion to launch.

CAPTAIN S MESSAGE CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE Please make sure that you look at the upcoming page section of this newsletter if there is one, to see what exciting event is coming. I m looking forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting. Also, please let me know if you are not receiving your newsletter. I have cut out the mailing out of the newsletter because it is now available on the web. (www.maritimemodelers.com). If you do not have internet access, and you need to receive the newsletter via snail mail, please let me know, and I will do so. Until next month.. Respectfully Bob MARITIME MODELERS HAS A NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS We have a new e-mail address specifically for the club, and that address is mrtmmdlrs5@aol.com Please use this address for all future e-mails addressed to the club and or it s Board Members. CLUB ELECTION ARE COMING UP AGAIN! As you know, the term for service is limited to two years, but there is no limit as to how many times that I m aware that you can hold offices. I plan to run again for another term as Captain and Newsletter Publisher, but don t let that stop you from running. The club needs help in running this club, and it needs good people like you. If you are interested in running, please contact: Bob Tiscareno, Jim Shultz, Gene Sauter, or Frank Milowicki. The offices are: Captain, Executive Officer, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Director, and Newsletter Publisher, Again, if you are interested in running, please contact any Board Member. The ballots will be mailed out with the January Newsletter. You my must be a member paid up member to hold office. So far here are the individuals that are running. If you would like to run for any office, don t let the fact that someone is running for that office. Everyone like a good race! I would be willing to bet that Captain Jack Sparrow will be put in as a write in candidate. The nominations are: Captain: Bob Tiscareno Executive Officer: Armando Leriget Secretary: Gene Sauter Treasurer: (OPEN) Newsletter Publisher: Bob Tiscareno Any office that is not filled will be the responsibility of the Captain to do those duties. Example, if no one comes forward to do the duty of the Treasurer, than the Captain will need to perform those duties. In order to run for an office, you must be a member, and be current on your dues. MARITIME MODELERS DECALS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!! Show you club pride by purchasing one or more of these really great, and highly detailed glue on decals available from a local Orange County company. The decal pictured is approx 16 inches diameter, and costs $38 including tax. A six inch decal is also available for $20, and available in several other colors. Contact Bob Tiscareno @ (562) 547-1488 or robertt92801@aol.com to order yours.

MARITIME MODELERS DVD S ARE YES! STILL AVAILABLE FOR ONLY $15 There are only seven of these professionally made DVD S left. I ordered twenty of them and Frank Milowicki and myself (Bob) have sold thirteen of them so far. I needed to pay for these in advance. As it says these are available for $15 each. It cost me $160.00 to order these, so in order for me to recoup my money, I must sell eleven of them. All other sales after that, all of the money collected after the eleven will go to the club s treasury. That should be approximately $135.00 Please see (Bob Tiscareno) at the meeting s to get your copy of this DVD, and help support your club. We appreciate your support. VISIT OUR CLUBS WEB-SITE! (WWW.MARITIMEMODELERS.COM) THE BIG I IS COMING TO SAN PEDRO U.S.S. IOWA BB-61 By: Bob Tiscareno As many if you might know, and maybe some of you don t, the U.S. Battleship Iowa BB-61 will be coming to San Pedro California to become a floating museum. The other day, I took a ride don t to San Pedro will my friend Armando, to visit the Maritime Museum, and also to check out the future site where the Iowa will be. The location of the battleship Iowa will be just off the Vincent Thomas Bridge between the World Cruise Center, and the Maritime Museum. It will be arriving in San Pedro sometime in April. I plan to be there all night, so when it does come, I will get some great shorts of it arriving, and the fire boats shooting water into the air to welcome the ship, etc, etc. The ship is currently being readied in Virginia for it s cruise to San Pedro. From what I understand, the ship will not be under it s own power on it s journey to the west coast, but will be towed the whole distance via tug boats, traveling through the Panama Canal. As I said, the ship will be arriving in April, but will not be open to the public sometime this year. If you would like to get more information about the U.S.S. Iowa BB-61, and it s journey to California, go to it s web-site at www.pacificbattleship.com
