FINAL RACE INFORMATION NATIONAL WATER SPORTS CENTRE, ADBOLTON LANE, NOTTINGHAM, NG12 2LU SATURDAY 19 MAY 2018 Please note that all athletes will be required to show their 2018 BTF Race Licence or an alternative form of photographic identification Welcome Welcome to The Nottingham Triathlon at the National Water Sports Centre. Car Parking The parking charge will continue to be in place by the venue. The cost will be 5 per vehicle and will cover you for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please do not park on the road at any point during the race weekend, it is dangerous and affects our relationship with the Highways Department Thank you! Over the weekend, we will be using various car parks based around the National Water Sports Centre, please follow the Car Park signs & listen to the car parking stewards when you arrive. Due to the route of the event we will change car parks during the race to ensure that the athletes are not endangered by stationary vehicles on the course. Please note that we would recommend that no valuables are left in the vehicles at all & that anything valuable is kept in the secure lockers at the National Water Sports Centre. All vehicles are parked at owner s own risk. Lockers & Showers Lockers and showers are available in the changing rooms at the National Water Sports Centre. When you register you will collect your race pack which contains the following: - Two race numbers - Bike and helmet stickers - Security wristband Along with your race pack you will also receive your timing chip and band, your event t-shirt and your swim cap. If you have a 2018 Triathlon England/Home Nations Race Licence, please bring it with you, if you have entered as a BTF member but are unable to show us a valid licence you will be charged 5 for a day licence. Please note that all athletes will be required to show some form of photographic identification if you do not have a 2018 Triathlon England/Home Nations Race Licence. This is to stop people exchanging entries & ensures that all competitors are insured to compete in the event. (A photocopy is fine) The Team Event The Whole Team is required to register for the event. You will all be required to show your 2018 Triathlon England/Home Nations Race Licences, for those that do not have a TE/HN Race License will be required to purchase a Day License at a cost of 5 per person. All relay team tags will take place by the team s bike racking position, inside the transition area. The swimmer will finish their swim, then run to tag their team cyclist inside the transition area 1. The cyclist s bike must stay racked until the swimmer has tagged the cyclist. When the team cyclist finishes, he/she must re-rack their bike before tagging the team runner in transition 2. All tagging will take place by passing the Timing Chip to the next team member, which needs to be attached around the left ankle. Transition Times The transition areas will be open during the following times, access will not be permitted into the transition areas at any other times as other competitors will be racing: 0645-0730 Wave 1: Male Only age categories: M15-19, M20-24, M25-29, M30-34, M35-39 0900-0945 Wave 2: Female Only age categories: F20-24, F25-29, F30-34, F35-39, F40-44, F45-49 1115-1200 Wave 3: Mixed age categories: F15-19, F50-54, F55-59, F60-64, F65-69, F70+, M50-54, M60-64, M70-74, M75-79, M80+ 1330-1415 Wave 4: Male Only, Relays, M40-44, M45-49, M55-59, M65-69 Access to the transition area will only be permitted from the boat house roof, please look at the transition route map before you arrive on site. Race Briefing There will be a short race briefing 15 minutes before each wave, this will take place in T1. Please attend this race briefing as any last minute changes, as well as any questions will be answered here. Start Times / Cap Colours WAVE 1 08:00 WAVE 2 10:15 WAVE 3 12:30 WAVE 4 14:45 White Red Blue Yellow Electronic Timing To ensure accurate times and results, every competitor will receive an ankle-mounted tag that comes with either a Tyvek or neoprene and Velcro strap to secure it. The tag should be fitted onto the strap and then secured around the left ankle. We recommend the left ankle is always used because this eliminates any risk of the strap being caught in the chain of your bicycle - it has nothing to do with timing system performance. Always wear the tag on the outside of your leg, not inside where it will bang on the pedal crank and annoy you or behind where it will probably rub on your heel. Always fit the timing strap and tag before putting on a wetsuit - if you put the strap over the wetsuit you effectively tie the suit onto your leg and transition will become a major struggle! NEVER wear the tag around your wrist -a common mistake with relays, especially in the run leg. The timing mats and antenna are down at ground level, not a metre or so up in the air! We have a simple guide to fitting a multisport tags HERE. Multisport chips and straps MUST be returned after you finish a race - they are expensive and organisers will typically bill you between 5 and 35 for any lost tags and straps. Race Numbers Race Numbers must be worn on the back during the bike & the front during the run. Number bands are allowed but it is recommended that two be worn. NB. Please do not forget to bring safety pins

Do not cut or fold your race numbers - time penalties will be issued for number mutilation. Removal of your bike from the transition area will not be possible without your race number, which corresponds with your stick-on bike frame number. If challenged please be prepared to show your race numbers at all times. Race Rules The event will be held under the rules of the British Triathlon Federation. Under these rules it is mandatory that all competitors must wear an approved helmet, that all cycles must be in a road worthy condition and that all competitors are insured by third party civil liability insurance BTF Members are insured as part of their membership package, and all other competitors will be required to purchase a Day Licence from the BTF. If you require further information about Race Rules, please visit www.britishtriathlon.org or telephone the British Triathlon Federation on 01509 226161. BTF Race Rules You are recommended to familiarise yourself with the British Triathlon rules and regulations. Littering the Course This is not acceptable If you can carry it full, you can carry it empty! We are lucky enough to organise events that take in some stunning scenery on the courses for you to enjoy. Let s leave them as we find them!! If you use gels or other nutrition supplements during your race please either bring it back to transition with you or make use of the bins at a drinks stations. If you can take it out on the course with you full, you can bring it back empty. It is also an offence under BTF rules to litter so you will be penalised! Let s set an example and keep our courses clean and leave them as we find them. Age Restrictions In line with British Triathlon rules, to be eligible to take part in this event, as an individual, competitors must be at least 15 years old on or before the 31 st December 2018. In additional anyone under 18 years old must have parental permission to take part in the event. For more information visit the BTF Competition Rule book by clicking here. What Will You Need? As this event attracts all types of athletes, from complete novices to international standard athletes, you will see bikes worth from 50 to 7,000. There are certain items which you will need: a wetsuit, a swimming costume or swimming trunks (nudity is not permitted), swimming goggles are also highly recommended but not compulsory. A road worthy bike, an ANSI/BS approved cycling helmet. All other items such as elastic laces, specific triathlon clothing and tribars are not a necessity but will help you on the day. On the day the Giant Lincoln store team will be doing Bike Checks. Please arrive early at the Giant stand as it is expected this service will be popular. Race Format & Distances Swim 750m (1 lap) - Bike 20km (4 laps) - Run 5km (1 lap) Swim 750 metres 1 lap The swim will start and finish from the boat house area of the National Water Sports Centre, directly in front of T1. There are only two turns in the swim route, the first after approx. 340 metres & the second after a further 70 metres. Please keep the turn buoys on your LEFT at all times. Water Safety There will be numerous canoes in the lake to guide you and to provide safety cover. If you get into difficulty, turn on your back and raise one arm; a canoe will then escort you to the bank. You are not allowed to swim on your back at all. If you appear to be struggling in the swim, or if you have been in the water for a long time, you may be pulled out and will not be able to continue. All competitors please note: United Kingdom inland waters are not completely safe for swimming, although risks of disease or serious infection are low. A swimmer may be susceptible to infection through immune suppression, particularly if he or she is not in good health at the time of swimming. Be careful entering the open water swim if you are unwell. You are advised not to drink the lake water. Bike 20km 4 laps PLEASE CYCLE ON THE LEFT AT ALL TIMES AS RUNNERS WILL BE USING THE SAME PERIMETER ROAD The bike route is very simple, it is 4 anticlockwise laps of the perimeter road. Once you have completed 4 laps, please ensure that you know where Transition 2 is and approach from the right hand side of the road after the final turn past the boathouses.

Please take care at all of the corners as they are very tight, especially around the boat house area. Please note that as a Water Sports Park, ducks & swans are likely to be on the course & might not move when approached. Whilst the bike course is closed to all vehicles, please note this is a popular centre, and attracts many visitors so please take care. There will be course marshals on all entrances to warn the general public, but please be aware that it is a public park and keep your head up at all times. Please note that you are not allowed to take pace from other competitors during the cycle section, this means that you are not allowed to ride closer than 10 metres behind another rider unless overtaking. You only have 20 seconds to overtake another competitor. Please pay extra attention when cornering on the cycle section, the corners are very tight and all have additional hazards, turns 1,2 & 3 all pass through tight gate sections and turn 4 has cyclists joining from the left out of T1 and leaving the course on the right to T2. The surface has been greatly improved over the last 2 years, however there are still some areas of rough surface, we have done our best to mark these for you with temporary spray. Finally, a new small yellow metal frame (approx. 5 metres) has been installed on the inside of the bike course along the back straight, please take extra care when passing this area. BSI, ANSI or SNELL approved hard shell helmets will be compulsory and must be worn throughout the cycle section. They must be fastened prior to mounting your cycle and neither undone nor removed until your bike is racked. Competitors are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that their bike is in a roadworthy condition prior to racing. Run 5km 1 lap Upon leaving T2 competitors will make an immediate 180 degree turn, running alongside T2. You will travel between the boat houses and the bike course, keeping the cones/barriers on your right side at all times! After making a sharp left & right turn you will be heading up the bank on the far side of the lake, please be aware of cyclists travelling in the opposite direction. You will then continue in a clockwise direction, reaching the large scoreboard before heading downhill onto the perfectly flat perimeter road, where you will loop around the lake. After turning at the top of the lake you will continue for approximately 1km where you will complete a short looped section, before re-joining the perimeter road and continuing to the finish funnel in front of the grandstand. Course Reconnaissance You are not permitted to swim in the regatta lake at any time, other than during the race. However, you are permitted to cycle the bike course up to 07:00 after which time the course will be cleared ready for the first race. Medical Cover The safety of our competitors is paramount. Onsite during the event will be a specialist company set up to supply the highest calibre of comprehensive medical cover to sporting events such as this. On the day there will be a team of medics, EMT s and Advanced EMT s plus Accident and Emergency response vehicles equipped with manual defibrillator / cardiac monitors, ventilators, pulse oximetry and medical gases. There will also be British Triathlon motorbike marshals on the cycle section. If before, during or after the event you feel that you require any type of medical care, please do not hesitate to contact an event marshal. Medical Conditions We request that all competitors write their next of kin & contact details on the back of their race numbers using a waterproof pen. If you have any type of medical condition or are taking any type of medication please write a large MC on the bottom left of your race number. Please write your medical condition fully on the back of your number also. This will only be used in the event of you being involved in an accident. Prizes & Presentation We will be providing prizes for the top 3 in each of the categories outlined in the Race Start Times section (with the exception to F70+, M80+ and Relay teams - there will be one winner per category). The presentation will take place after each wave on the grassed area above the grandstand. SportCam SportCam will be photographing this event. All images will be uploaded to the SportCam website within 24 hours of the event finishing. Visit it at http://sportcam.net/ Competitor Conduct Competitors are reminded that they share the venue facilities with other citizens who may or may not be fully aware of the event. And whilst no members of the public should be on the bike course at any time during the event, due care should be taken at all times. We request that you treat members of the public, marshals, other competitors, event officials and venue staff with respect. Any use of profanity or aggression towards any other parties will result in an immediate DQ from the event and a ban from all future events hosted by both the venue and the promoters.
