NORTH CANBERRA BEARS MINOR RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB PO Box 7244 KALEEN ACT 2612 Web: www.northcanberrabears.asn.au Email: northcanberrabears@hotmail.com Welcome to the Bears 2010 2010 is gearing up to be another great year for the club, 12 Red & Black teams will take the field and all will perform admirably. Once again the Bears are fielding teams in every age group from Under 6 s to 16 s. Thanks to all players, coaches, managers and the 50 plus FAO and League Safe volunteers who will be attending to our teams rain, hail or shine. To our valued sponsors and supporters: SCK, PTS, Canberra Tilehouse, Schumacher Automotive and new sponsors Condrill, Wilson concreting, Northside Commercial, Anitech and Specialty fasteners just to name a few. Thank you again for your valuable support. Special mention again must be made of the amazing effort by the Schools Sub Committee headed up by Glen Aylott. Many thanks to you and your team; Andrew Mead, Justin Box, Darrin Brown and Braden Shields; for your time and commitment in helping the Bears increase exposure and assist North Canberra Schools to develop their Rugby league programs. Bear s player numbers have increased in 2010 as a result. I would like to thank the Bears Committee for their support and hard work leading up to the start of the season because of your efforts and professionalism we have really turned our club into something special, and might I add, the envy of a lot of larger clubs! Remember, the committee can only do so much to recruit players; ultimately it is up to the players and their parents to bring their friends along and see how much fun it can be playing Rugby League with the BEARS and being part of such a great Club! House Keeping and what you can do FFIIRRSSTT AAIID AAND LLEEAAGGUUEE SSAAFFEE It is important that each team has league Accredited First Aid Officers and League Safe personnel assigned to their team each game, or your team will not be permitted to play. If you can help your team and sit through the courses to become accredited, please see your team coach or manager there can never be too many League Safers or First aid officers; not only do you come away with valuable information and the satisfaction that you are contributing to the team, but you also get handbooks, and a new shirt! The club will pay for the cost of the training, and in return ask that you can provide the services back to the club. The next League Safe course is on Wednesday 19 May 2010 at The West Belconnen Leagues Club from 6pm - 9pm. These courses book out quickly, so if you are interested, please download the registration form from the sporting pulse website, complete and send through to JRL, the Bears will be invoiced on attendance. http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=7-1084-0-0- 0&sID=13490&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=11888776&sectionID=13490 GGRROUUNDSS SSEETT UUPP Each team whose game commences at 9am has been asked to provide two representatives from their team to assist setting up the grounds. There are 3 fields (mini, mod and international) to set up. T doesn t take too long to coordinate. You will be assisted the grounds-set-up-army, and, on completion, will be awarded with a free coffee. We ask that you come to the home ground at Ashburton Ovals at 7.30am to help! Same goes for the reversal at the end of the day. The teams who play the final games on their respective field are asked if they too can provide support to the grounds pack-away-army and assist packing down the fields. MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK CCAANTTEEEEN Leesa is no stranger to the club, and this year has taken on the Canteen Coordinator job. Last year we ran a roster system, whereby each week a different team was rostered on to assist in the Canteen; on cold days the canteen is a popular place to be (the pie warmer and coffee machine are quite inviting!). Round 1 will commence with the Under 16 s assisting in the canteen, Round 2 will be the Under 15 s and so on, eventually moving down to the Under 6 s. Families are asked to provide assistance in serving hot food and beverages, throughout the whole day. You are not expected to be working the canteen when your child is playing on the field. Your Coach/Manager will tell you when your team is rostered on. The canteen is only small, and to be honest, anymore than 3 people in that little room can be quite squishy, but please, drop by and say hi to the ladies in the canteen and offer some assistance, even if you re not rostered on. NEEWSSLLEETTTTEERR I am new to the Bears Beat Newsletter, and welcome your input. Newsletter contributions, including pictures, can be sent to northcanberrabears@hotmail.com. Remember, it doesn t have to be up to the Manager or Coach to write a report, if you see something spectacular then we all want to read about it! If you want your own column email me and we ll see what we can do. I look forward in keeping you up to date with the Bear Beat Newsletter. I am only as good as the information I receive, so keep it coming ladies and gentleman. WATCH THIS SPACE! WEEBBSSIITTEE -- KKEEEEPP UUPP TTO DAATTEE The Bears very own website is up and running, it s a work in progress, but we promise it will be spectacular! The website provides you with up to date regular information, including the history of the club. CHECK IT OUT www.northcanberrabears.asn.au To keep up to date with where and when each team is playing every week save this sporting pulse link as a favourite: http://www.sportingpulse.com/club_info.cgi?c=7-1084-18161-0-0&a=teams& Game times can change right up to Thursday before the game commences, so keep an eye on it.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR TEAM UUNDEERR 99' 'ss A big welcome back to families from last year and a huge welcome to the new families this year. I would like to thank the parents that have already put their hands up to help out at training and hope it continues throughout the year. I hope we have a fun and enjoyable season. Training - Mondays 5.30pm-6.30pm & Thursdays 5.30pm-6.30pm Thanks Ben UUNDEERR 1100 ss BBLLAACCKK Hello families! I am coaching the Under 10 s Black this year, and am no stranger to the team. Last year I League Safed along side Gav and Andrew, this year I ve made the quantum leap into the coaching position. I am a Level 1 Coach and coached the Under 8 s in 2008 for another club; I ve managed to pull a few boys out from retirement to stock up the numbers for this season. 2010 is an exciting year for our boys as this year the boys can play in finals. Playing footy is not about winning, but it sure puts a smile-on-your-dial when you come away with more points on the board than the other team. This year we will work on skills, technique and effective, positive team work and positional play. Each boy will be given a role on the field and this role may vary from game to game. We re in for a great year! Enough of me, let me introduce you to the U10 s Black team: Introducing our backs 1 Samuel 2 Hayden 3 Louis 4 Liam 5 Ethan 6 Jarred 7 Jack Team Manager First Aid Officer League Safe Andrew Roylance Neil Lamb WANTED Introducing our forwards 8 Dante 9 Mark 10 Nick 11 Lucas 12 Dayton 14 Sam W 15 Chook 16 Zeke As you can see, we have a healthy team. You ve all received my intro letter, and I reiterate that I am happy to discuss training or game play with you, after training or game days and can be contacted by phone or email (almost) anytime. Let s go Bears & remember training well = playing well! Go the Bears Corrinna 0419 229 226

UUNDEERR 1100 ss RREED Welcome the Under 10's Red I am your coach for the year and I have a great back up staff of: Manager Jenny, League Safer Darren and First Aiders Raelene, John and Chris. I would like to welcome back our players from last Year: Sophie, Thomas, Andrew, Zarn, Ryan, Harley, Josh, Tim, Dru and Joey. I would know like to welcome to our team and our fantastic club our 4 new recruits: Matthew, Dilip, Aidan and Josh. My welcome also extends to all parents, guardians, family and friends of all new and old players. Lets continue on from where we left off last year and have a fun and successful year. Go the Bears!!! Murray UUNDEERR 1111 ss My name is Greg Rolls and I have taken on the managers role with the under 11's Bears. We have have made a rocky start to the year with our coach Billy going to the Bulls. Wayne Wilson has taken on the coaching role until we can find a replacement coach and has got all the boys into a routine at the few training sessions that we have had. Our training sessions will be held twice a week on Wednesday and Friday from 5.30 to 6.30pm at the Diamantina grounds in Kaleen. The team is mostly made up of players that won the Grand Final last year but we welcome several new players including Ngalan Gilbert, Jared Graf,Flynn Fleming-Wilke and welcome back Yianni Batzogiannis. We also welcome Corey Wilson who will be helping out with training as the conditioning coach/trainer. A special thanks to Wayne and Janita Wilson in helping to get the season started for the under 11's team under trying circumstances. The team also enjoyed a week end recently at Neligen where the boys were able to kayak, Fish and water ski as well as a few games of footy and a great time was had by all. We look forward to the season ahead. Regards Greg Rolls

UUNDEERR 1133 ss Welcome to everyone for season 2010, Tanya and Bill would like to remind everyone that trainings are Tuesday and Thursday at 6 to 7.15.our first game is at home (Ashburton Cct Kaleen) and we need to there no later than 9.50 for a 10.35 kick off. Please remember mouth guards and boots. (Headgear if you wear it).we play rain, hail or shine. Training however is only if it s not raining during training times. If it has rained but has stopped before training we will train. Anyone who would like to become league safe let me know as soon as possible as there is another course. Thank you. TANYA SIMMONDS 0419626798, BILL SIMMONDS 0402421993 (HOME) 02 6259 5403 UUNDEERR 1144 ss Welcome back everybody to another year of fantastic football fever. Daz and I would like to welcome the new boys to our team, Willie, Humza, Daniel, Liam and a welcome home also to Kirk, we re sure you boys will fit in nicely into our under 14 s Bears outfit. We have already started our 2010 season with a trial carnival against Belconnen United Sharks, and a trip down to Bega to play the Bega Roosters. Although we lost to Bega 26-6 and a couple of Sydney teams touched us up in the Sharks carnival, there were some very promising signs and we also didn t have our strongest team due to injuries to Stef and Joseph. But we kick off the proper season with a tough 1st game against Queanbeyan Blues at their home ground. Hopefully the boys will be fired up for a good win. On a finishing note we have a few housekeeping rules for you guys. If you cannot make it to training please let us know with a quick phone call to either Daz or myself or you could find yourself sitting on bench, and we would like the boy s full attention at training or there will be penalties to those individuals. We are very excited about the 2010 season with a good group of boys that we have in the team. Thanks very much everybody and GO THE BEARS 2010 Boxy 0419 165 396 Daz 0418 710 130
