Parachute Association of South Africa SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL RECORDS General South African national parachuting and skydiving records may be attempted and claimed under the following general conditions. 1. The Sport Skydiving Association shall record successful record attempts in the PASA Records Book. This Records Book shall be updated and made available to all members via the PASA website. 2. The record attempts must be monitored by three South African National PASA Judges (as defined in the PASA Judges Handbook). Two of the judges must hold a PASA National Judge rating in the discipline of the record attempt. The third judge must hold at least a valid PASA National Judge rating. 3. At least one Judge (primary judge) must be physically present at the record attempt site. If the other judges are not present at the record attempt site they must be able to receive and view the images required to assess the record attempts electronically, and communicate their findings back to the primary judge. 3.1. Competition Records 3.1.1. The record performance may only be established during a scheduled PASA sanctioned competition where the judging system used is deemed by the primary judge to be of the same standard or higher standard as that used in South African National Championships. 3.1.2. Joint Record holders 3.1.2.1. Joint Record holders may exist/apply in Freefall Style, Formation Skydiving, Canopy Formation, Artistic Events and Canopy Piloting, under the following conditions: 3.1.2.1.1. If two or more competitors or teams achieve the same record performance during the same round and thereby break an existing record, the new record shall be registered in the names of all the competitors or teams involved. 3.1.2.1.2. If a competitor or team achieves a performance during a later round in the same event, which is equal to a new record performance achieved during an earlier round in that event (i.e. a new record that was set in an earlier round of the same event is equalled but not bettered later in the competition by a different team or individual), no recognition will be given to the latter performance as being a record performance. 3.1.2.1.3. Accuracy Landing records 3.1.2.1.3.1. The record performance of accuracy jumps is the final score after a completed PASA sanctioned competition. 3.1.2.1.3.2. In a team jump, the record performance is the final score of the team after a completed PASA sanctioned competition. 3.1.2.1.4. Freefall Style records 3.1.2.1.4.1. The record performance of style jumps is the score for one series of manoeuvres as described in the FAI Competition Rules. 3.1.2.1.5. Formation Skydiving records 3.1.2.1.5.1. With the exception of a 10 way star formation, the record performance is the score in one round in accordance with the FAI Sporting Code and FS Competition Rules 3.1.2.1.5.2. For a 10 way star formation record the record performance is the fastest time to complete a 10 way star in accordance South African Competition Rules. 3.1.2.1.6. Canopy Formation records 3.1.2.1.6.1. 4-Way Rotation

3.1.2.1.6.1.1. The record performance for a 4-way rotation is the score in one round in 3.1.2.1.6.2. Longest Sequence 4 or 2 way 3.1.2.1.6.2.1. The record performance for the longest sequence is the score in one round in 3.1.2.1.6.3. 8-Way Speed Formation 3.1.2.1.6.3.1. The record performance for an 8-way speed formation is the time in which eight persons form a complete connected eight canopy formation in 3.1.2.1.7. Freefly records 3.1.2.1.7.1. The record performance for the longest sequence is the number of formations in a speed round completed in accordance with the FAI Artistic Events Competition Rules. 3.1.2.1.8. Canopy Piloting records 3.1.2.1.8.1. Distance. 3.1.2.1.8.1.1. The record performance for distance is the greatest distance achieved on a straight line course that is in accordance with the FAI Canopy Piloting Competition rules.. 3.1.2.1.8.2. Speed. 3.1.2.1.8.3. The record performance for speed is the lowest time taken to negotiate a course that is in accordance with the FAI Canopy Piloting Competition Rules. 3.1.2.1.9. Speed Skydiving records 3.1.2.1.9.1. The Competition record for Speed Skydiving is the highest average speed in one round of competition held in accordance with the International Speed Skydiving Association competition rules. 3.2. Performance Records 3.2.1. Accuracy Landing Records 3.2.1.1. The record performance of accuracy jumps is the number of consecutive landings on the dead centre disc plus the next score made. 3.2.1.2. In a team jump, the performance is the number of consecutive landings on the disc of the whole team plus the next score made. The record must be made by a team of the same five individuals for the whole record. 3.2.1.3. The jumps must be made within a period of 14 consecutive days. 3.2.1.4. The record jump series may not be interrupted by other jumps. 3.2.2. Altitude records - Individuals or teams 3.2.2.1. The height of a parachute jump made for an altitude record shall be measured from mean sea level to the height at which the first parachutist exits the aircraft. 3.2.2.2. Parachutists making an attempt on an altitude record are reminded to take particular note of the PASA Manual of Procedures Section 13, paragraph 3.3. 3.2.2.3. Exit height proof acceptable to the PASA Judges Committee must be agreed to by the PASA Judges Committee before the record attempt. The agreed proof of exit height must be submitted with the application for recognition. 3.2.2.4. The timing device and measurement methods acceptable to the PASA Judges Committee and declared before the record attempt shall be used. 3.2.2.5. Recognition of altitude records shall be subject to: 3.2.2.5.1. Having gained an increase of at least 5% over an existing record for altitudes up to 25,000 feet. 3.2.2.5.2. Having gained an increase of at least 3% over an existing record for altitudes from 25,000 feet to 35,000 feet. 3.2.2.5.3. Having gained an increase of at least 2% over an existing record for altitudes above 35,000 feet. 3.2.2.6. If two or more individuals or teams achieve an identical record performance on the same calendar day and thereby break an existing record, the new record shall be registered in the name of all the 3.2.3. Largest Freefall Formation records

3.2.3.1. The record performance for the largest formation is the number of persons in one formation. 3.2.3.2. One written plan describing the formation to be attempted and the personnel involved must be submitted in advance to the Judges. The formation must be completed as described with all named personnel in the formation. 3.2.3.3. The exit procedure for the largest formation is the same as for the longest sequence except that more than one aircraft may be used. 3.2.3.4. If two or more teams achieve an identical record performance on the same calendar day and thereby break an existing record, the new record shall be registered in the name of all the 3.2.4. Speed Skydiving records 3.2.4.1. The Performance Record for Speed Skydiving is the highest average speed in one jump performed in accordance with the International Speed Skydiving Association competition rules. 3.2.5. Largest Wingsuit Formation records 3.2.5.1. The record performance for the largest wingsuit formation is the number of persons flying in wingsuits in one proximate formation, without grips. 3.2.5.2. One written plan describing the formation to be attempted and the personnel involved must be submitted in advance to the Judges. The formation must be completed as described with all named personnel in the formation 3.2.5.3. If two or more teams achieve an identical record performance on the same calendar day and thereby break an existing record, the new record shall be registered in the name of all the 3.2.5.4. Completion is judged using a scalable grid of adjacent red and black diamonds. Each diamond has four 90-degree angles. Diamond sides overlap by 13.5% to allow each participant an additional margin of acceptable flying area. The grid is overlaid digitally on a still photograph of the formation to determine relativity of all fliers and completion of the formation. 3.2.5.5. Judges will place the grid over the formation in a way that attempts to fit all participants within their grid space ( best fit method). The best fit indicates that if there is a way all participants can fit within their grid spaces, the grid will be placed in that orientation. 3.2.5.6. To be judged successfully within their grid space, some part of the Wingsuit flier must be visible inside a line delineating their space. 3.2.5.7. The grid line is out of bounds. 3.3. Record Classification 3.3.1. South African Competition and Performance records shall have the following main classifications. 3.3.1.1. High Altitude with delayed opening 3.3.1.2. High Altitude with immediate opening 3.3.1.3. Accuracy Landing 3.3.1.4. Fastest Freefall Style 3.3.1.5. Highest Two Way Formation Skydiving Score 3.3.1.6. Highest Four Way Formation Skydiving Score 3.3.1.7. Highest Eight Way Formation Skydiving Score 3.3.1.8. Highest Sixteen Way Formation Skydiving Score 3.3.1.9. Fastest Ten Way Star Formation 3.3.1.10. Largest Freefall Formation 3.3.1.11. Highest Four Way Canopy Formation Score 3.3.1.12. Highest Two-Way Canopy Formation Score 3.3.1.13. Fastest Eight Way Canopy Formation 3.3.1.14. Largest Canopy Formation (Plane / Stack) 3.3.1.15. Highest Freefly Speed round score 3.3.1.16. Largest Freefly (Head down orientation) Formation 3.3.1.17. Longest Canopy Piloting distance 3.3.1.18. Fastest Canopy Piloting speed 3.3.1.19. Fastest Skydiving Speed 3.3.1.20. Largest Wingsuit Formation

3.3.2. Classifications 3.3.1.1, 3.3.1.2, and 3.3.1.3 shall be further classified as 'Individual' or Team records. For Team records, the number of parachutists shall not be less than 3 and all must jump from the same aircraft on the same jump run. 3.3.3. Classifications 3.3.1.4, 3.3.1.6, 3.3.1.10, 3.3.1.16, 10.3.1.20 may be further classified as Female. For Competition records this means all competitors must be female, except for Formation Competition records, in which only the cameraman may be male. For Largest Freefall Formation, Largest Freefly (Head down orientation) Formation and Largest Wingsuit Formation to be classified as Female, only the cameraman may be male. 3.3.4. All classifications may be further classified as: 3.3.4.1. Day 3.3.4.2. Night 3.3.4.2.1. Night shall be defined as the time between 1 hour after official sunset and 1 hour before official sunrise. 3.3.5. Classification 3.3.1.11 shall be further classified as: 3.3.5.1. Rotations 3.3.5.2. Sequential 3.3.6. Classification 3.3.1.14 shall be further classified as: 3.3.6.1. One-dimensional 3.3.6.2. Bi-dimensional 3.3.7. Competition Records in classifications where the PASA allows for Open, Intermediate and Novice categories shall be classified as: 3.3.7.1. Open 3.3.7.2. Intermediate 3.3.7.3. Novice 4. Application For Recognition 4.1. Applications for recognition of national parachuting records shall be made to the SSA Committee via the Chairman of the Judges Committee. Applications can be made by any of the following: 4.1.1. the Chief Judge if at a National Championships, 4.1.2. the primary judge or 4.1.3. the Meet Director of the Competition. 4.2. The application for Competition records must be accompanied by the following information: 4.2.1. All applications: 4.2.1.1. - The name, sex and PASA membership number of each parachutist; 4.2.1.2. proof of residency or citizenship for each parachutist must be available on request (refer to FAI Sporting Code General Section Chapter 8 for the definitions of residency and citizenship). 4.2.1.2.1. The following is required as proof of South African residency or citizenship: 4.2.1.2.1.1. A copy of a South African Permanent Resident certificate or a copy of a South African permanent Residence stamp in a foreign passport as proof of permanent South African residency; or 4.2.1.2.1.2. A South African passport or South African Identity book which has SA Burger/Citizen printed under the identity number. 4.2.1.3. - Type of aircraft 4.2.1.4. - Where the performance took place; 4.2.1.5. - Date of the performance record; 4.2.1.6. - Chief Judges certification that the performance record was conducted and achieved in accordance with the PASA regulations or the FAI Sporting Code; 4.2.1.7. Note: A record performance achieved at the South African National Championships or at a WPC or WC, will be sufficient evidence for the certifications required above. 4.3. The application for Performance Records should be accompanied by the following information: 4.3.1. All applications: 4.3.1.1. - The name, sex and PASA membership number of each parachutist; 4.3.1.2. proof of residency or citizenship for each parachutist must be available on request (refer to FAI Sporting Code General Section Chapter 8 for the definitions of residency and citizenship). 4.3.1.2.1. The following is required as proof of South African residency or citizenship:

4.3.1.2.1.1. A copy of a South African Permanent Resident certificate or a copy of a South African permanent Residence stamp in a foreign passport as proof of permanent South African residency; or 4.3.1.3. A South African passport or South African Identity book which has SA Burger/Citizen printed under the identity number. 4.3.1.4. - The type of the ascent vehicle; 4.3.1.5. - Exit height used; 4.3.1.6. - Where the performance took place; 4.3.1.7. - Time and date of the performance record; 4.3.1.8. - Chief Judges certification that the performance record was conducted and achieved in accordance with the PASA regulations; 4.3.1.9. - DZ details including height above sea level. 4.3.2. For records classified as 3.3.1.1 or 3.3.1.2, the above information must also be accompanied by the following: 4.3.2.1. - Judges' certification of the landing point(s); 4.3.2.2. - Judge s certification of the time delay. 4.3.3. Claims for records classified as 10.2.1.10 (Largest Wingsuit formation) shall submit for judging, in addition to the above: 4.3.3.1. A diagram showing the intended formation 4.3.3.2. One still photograph of the completed formation with all fliers visible 4.3.3.3. One video perspective of the jump from exit to break-off to show continuity. 4.3.4. Claims for records classified as 10.2.1.20 (Largest Wingsuit formation) shall submit for judging, in addition to the above: 4.3.4.1. A diagram showing the intended formation 4.3.4.2. One still photograph of the completed formation with all fliers visible 4.3.4.3. One video perspective of the jump from exit to break-off to show continuity. Information About World Records Members wishing to make an attempt at a Continental Record or World Record should consult the FAI Sporting Code, General Section and Section 5. A record must first be recognised as a National Record by the National Airsport Control organisation of the proposed holder before it can be recognised as a World Record and all World Record requirements stipulated by the FAI must be met. It should be emphasized in particular that among the FAI requirements for a World or Continental record is the requirement that every participant holds a current FAI sporting license at the time of setting the record. This license should not be confused with NAC membership.
