SEPTEMBER2016 All Churchill residents are members of the Junior Common Room (JCR), and pay a JCR subscription as part of their accommodation fee. The subscription gives you access to use all the facilities of the JCR, including the Junior Common Room itself, its snooker and pool tables, and the JCR bar. Subscription fees also go towards the events that the committee organises over the year, from welcome events to fitness groups and the popular Valentine s Ball and end of year Garden Party. The JCR committee is elected by all Churchill residents to organise social activities and events on their behalf. A new committee begins work in the first term and continues into the next academic year to welcome new residents. The committee has a President and includes three members of the Bar Committee and two representatives who sit on the Hall Committee. If you have any feedback for housekeeping or catering staff or want to raise an issue to the Hall Committee, you can do this through your JCR representatives. The current JCR Committee have been in post since the middle of October 2015. They have been working hard to plan all the entertainment events for your Welcome Week which include all daytime and evening activities either organised completely by the JCR or selected by the committee from the Student Union event offering. Your Junior Common Room will only ever be as good as the work the residents put into it. If you're someone with a keen interest in something like sport or drama, or enjoy leading groups or organising events why not consider joining the committee? Roles and role descriptions can be found below. These are also stored on the Churchill Hall organisation within Blackboard should you want to review them at other times. Elections will be held in early October so if the committee is something you may in interested in, it would be wise to spend your first few weeks in hall thinking about what you enjoy and would wish to improve about the hall to include in your campaign. Keep a close eye on weekly email bulletins for more information about elections. If you re someone who is keen to get involved but has other commitments that prevent you from taking on a formal role on the committee, you can still play a key part in delivering events within the hall. You can do this by contacting the SSA on churchill-hall@bristol.ac.uk and registering your interest in helping to plan a specific event, or to offer general assistance in setting up events when your availability allows. You can also help the hall by letting the JCR Committee know what events you d like to see in hall. President The President of the JCR is in overall charge of the JCR Committee. The primary role of the President is to act in a liaising role between the hall and its student body. Keeping in frequent contact with the SCR the Warden, Deputy Warden and the Senior Resident team.
