I am thankful for the change in seasons. The passing of winter into the coming spring is always interesting to watch. The warm southern wind as it pushes against the cold air from the north is a battle that often produces volatile results. High winds, freezing rain, snow and the frozen ground give way to muddy soup. This can be a hard time for livestock as well. In spite of the harsh weather at times, spring is always filled with high expectations. We look forward to the new baby calves and our favorite mare will surely give birth this year to the next World Champion. The thought of warm weather and sunny days just around the corner fill us with overflowing hope, that this year will be our best one yet. I truly believe this will be the best year for the Missouri Ranch Horse Association. The new boxing class will allow more people to get involved with our working ranch horse class as well as joining forces with the extreme cowboy trail competition and other endeavors such as these offer exciting possibilities. The new locations for our shows this year will keep things fresh and growing. I am also looking forward to the Midwest Ranch Horse Classic at Gordyville, USA, in October that we are putting on with Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana. It s going to be great! I look forward to seeing you all at Flickerwood arena in Jackson, MO, at our kickoff show April 28th and 29th. So start combing off that old winter hair and soon that shiny coat underneath will be all you see. With eager anticipation, Dennis Cappel President Mark Warren 1302 Somerset Ln. P a ge 2 M issouri Ranch Horse Association Awards Banquet a Huge Success! MoRHA members know how to throw a party and this year s awards banquet was no exception! We had a terrific turnout with more than 70 members and guests present for the event. The banquet was held at the Chandler Hill Vineyards in beautiful Defiance, MO, and despite the return of chilly winter temperatures, the day was sunny and beautiful allowing us to enjoy the view of the surrounding hillsides. Special thanks to Mona Prater for coordinating the location, menu and the Year End Awards. It is a huge undertaking to pull this together and we all appreciate Mona s efforts to make the event memorable for everyone in attendance. Chris Diehl did a great job with the silent auction which generated $548 this year. Didn t get a chance to participate in the auction? No problem! We have a lot more wonderful items and we will hold another silent auction at the April show in Jackson, MO. We will continue to accept items for that auction if you have something you would like to donate.

ARHA to Present Buckles to MoRHA Members at Annual ARHA Awards Banquet ARHA is sponsoring 10 Honor Roll Champion Buckles and a Versatility Buckle to be presented at our 2011 Annual Awards Banquet held at The Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville, TN on February 18, 2012. Many of you have already renewed your MoRHA Membership-THANK YOU! As an added benefit to your MoRHA Membership, each household will receive a free 2012 subscription to Central States Horseman. In order to begin receiving this publication, we will need your permission to give CSH your address. Some members may receive a copy from another source. Some members might prefer to pick it up at their local tack/feed store or not want it at all. Since this subscription will be paid for by MoRHA, we don't want to pay for a subscription for a member who already receives it from another source or doesn't want it at all. Please check the appropriate box on your membership form and we ll take care of the rest. If you have already joined/renewed for 2012 and did not opt-in to receive the CSH and would like to, please contact Treasurer Chris Diehl and she will have your name added to the mailing list. MoRHA to offer PAC approved shows in 2012. MoRHA members who exhibit an American Paint Horse may enroll in the Paint Alternative Competition (PAC) Program through APHA and earn credits at approved shows. Application for the 2012 show season has been submitted to APHA and we are awaiting approval. Volunteers are needed to help at each of the shows in 2012. Volunteering is a great way to learn more about the Ranch Horse shows as well as meet new people in a fun and supportive environment. For more information about volunteer opportunities please contact Heather Northcutt at 814-289-1649 or send her an e-mail at pennhorse27@yahoo.com. SAVE THE DATE!
