Lincoln County 4-H May-June 2017 Newsletter In Stanford If you re looking for ways to get outside and play, we have several work days scheduled at the 4-H Garden. This space is located in downtown Stanford across from the caboose near the public library. It s gotten a bit weedy over winter, so we need lots of extra hands to help us get this garden looking great for spring and summer. All ages, and experience levels, are welcome to come by. There s no need to call and sign up, just bring your garden hoes and gloves and stop by the garden on the days listed on the calendars inside. The countdown is on for 4-H Camp 2017: Lights, Camera, Action! Spots are filling quickly, so please get your applications in as soon as possible before a waiting list forms! We ve got some great summer activities in the works, so be sure to read through your newsletter and let me know what you would like to sign up for! Clover Corner News If you re finishing 5th grade and up, you re eligible to join our 4-H Outdoor Adventure Club, so be sure to check out our schedule inside your newsletter. 4-H Camp Applications Now Available! Lincoln County heads to 4-H camp July 10 14, 2017 at the J.M. Feltner 4-H Camp in London, KY. We c amp w i t h Boyle and Powell Counties and we are currently gearing up for a great week of swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, basketball, arts and crafts, fishing, and much, much more! The theme for this year is movies or, 4-H Camp: Lights, Camera, Action! We have lots of fun and exciting activities planned for this theme, including nightly costume contests! Class options include many familiar camp activities, such as swimming, archery, canoeing, fishing, rifles, nature hikes, basketball, arts and crafts, and dance. Other class options include high ropes (rock wall and zip lining), science experiments dealing with movie magic, rocketry, improv acting, photography, robotics, and so much more! Applications are now available at the Lincoln County Extension Office. The cost for camper is $200, and a limited number of half scholarships are available. Get applications in early for first choice in your camp classes! Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serviced basis. Scholarship applications are due on Friday, June 9. All camp applications are due by Friday, June 16. Adult counselor applications are also available. Adults are not required to pay camp fees, but must attend several training events prior to camp, and adults must also complete a background check process. We are always on the lookout for caring adults who are willing to donate their time and energy to help us by serving as a chaperone at 4-H Camp. Join 4-H Outdoor Adventure Club Do you enjoy the great outdoors? Do you love to get outside and go hiking, canoeing, or exploring nature? Then this club is for you! This summer, join Lincoln County 4-H as we kick off another season of fun with the 4-H Outdoor Adventure Club. Leave your electronics at home and lace up your hiking boots! Below are the details for the trips we have scheduled so far. You MUST call to register for each event at least 3 days before it is scheduled. Money can be paid all at once, as you register for event, or on the morning we leave for the event. 4-H Bucks can NOT be accepted for this particular club. Who Can Join? Lincoln County youth who will be entering the 6th thru 12th grade this fall (2017-18 school year). How Much Does it Cost? Most events are free, but some will have a small fee. 4-H Bucks cannot be used to cover these fees. You will need to bring your own lunch for each event and it is highly suggested you purchase an insulated lunch box, especially when we are participating in water activities. Club member should also purchase a good, reusable water bottle. What will we do? Get outside! Get our hands dirty and enjoy all the beauty of Kentucky! Enter 4-H projects at the County Fair The 2017 Lincoln County Fair is scheduled for Monday, July 3 thru Saturday, July 8. Floral Hall is where you should go to check in your projects Monday morning from 9 a.m. 11:30 a.m. We will help with nametags and entry numbers, but you can get a fair book that lists all categories at the Extension Office by June 1. It is FREE to enter your 4-H project at the fair. All 4-H projects receive ribbons based on the Danish System of judging. Meaning, if you ve done a great job, you will receive a blue ribbon, no matter how many projects are entered in your class. Red ribbons mean the project is good, but could have been better, and white ribbons mean the project needs improvement. The best project in each category will receive a purple champion ribbon and that project will advance to the 2017 Kentucky State Fair, held annually in Louisville, KY in August. Below is a reminder of the 4-H Project Workshops we have completed throughout the year.
