LTC Phoenix Admiral s Regatta 2018 Notice of Regatta www.admiralsregatta.co.za Hout Bay Yacht Club, Cape Town 20-22 April 2018 Venue: Hout Bay Yacht Club, Cape Town Dates: Friday 20 th Sunday 22 nd April 2018 Racing area: Classes: In-shore and offshore of Hout Bay Keelboats ORC and PHRF offshore racing class Keelboats PHRF cruising class Small keelboats inshore PHRF racing class Senior dinghy classes (single or double handed) Senior small catamaran classes (single or double handed) 1 ORGANISING AUTHORITY 1.1 Hout Bay Yacht Club under the sanction and authority of South African Sailing Western Cape 2 RULES 2.1 The regatta will be governed by the Rules as defined in "The Racing Rules of Sailing" 2.2 ORC Class Rules apply for boats entered in the ORC class 2.3 The relevant Class Rules apply for all boats competing in a one-design class, 2.4 All participating keelboats boats must comply with NSVSR Category C including the required Certificate of Competence (Skippers Ticket). 3 ADVERTISING 3.1 The Race Committee reserves the right to require the removal from display of any advertising which, in its opinion, is not in good taste. 3.2 Boats may be required to display advertising as chosen and supplied by the organising authority. 1
4 ELIGIBILITY, ENTRY AND FEES The regatta is open to all small and large boats with an ORC or Performance handicap rating per the PHRF rating system, and all senior (i.e. not youth age restricted) dinghy classes that are recognised on the Portsmouth handicap list, and all small multihull classes as recognised in the Small Catamaran Handicap Rating System. Every skipper and crew of a yacht entered in the regatta shall be a member in good standing of a yacht club affiliated to South African Sailing and will be required to show valid Club Membership cards on request Entry 4.1 Entries are available in the following classes: 4.1.1 Keelboats ORC and PHRF offshore racing class 4.1.2 Keelboats PHRF cruising class 4.1.3 Small keelboats inshore PHRF racing class 4.1.4 Senior dinghy classes (single or double handed) 4.1.5 Senior small catamaran classes (single or double handed) 4.2 The closing date for entries is 17h00 on 18 April 2018. Thereafter, a late entry penalty of R50 per entry may be levied. 4.3 Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry form and sending it together with proof of payment of the required entry fee to info@admiralsregatta.co.za. Entry Forms may be obtained on request from Hout Bay Yacht Club, by sending an email to info@admiralsregatta.co.za or from the web site www.admiralsregatta.co.za. 4.4 Clubs may enter a team in the Keelboat Offshore fleet by nominating three boats as a club team No single boat may represent more than one club or more than one team. Clubs may enter more than one team. Team Racing rules do not apply. The nomination of the club team must be done prior to 09h00 on the 21 st April. There is no additional entry fee for entering a club team Fees 4.5 The entry fee is R200 per keelboat, and R 125 per double-handed dinghy or small multihull and R75 per singlehanded dinghy or small multihull. 5 MEASUREMENT: 5.1 Each yacht shall be in possession of a valid measurement or registration certificate, which shall be presented at registration on request. 5.2 All boats competing in the LTC Phoenix Admiral s regatta shall be made available for, and pass, random inspections or measurement checks which may take place from 15h00 on the 20 th April until 16h00 on the 22 nd April as directed by the Race Committee. 6 SCHEDULE: 6.1 All keelboats are required to register at Hout Bay Yacht Club on Friday 20th April 2018 from 14h00 to 20h00. If for any reason, a keelboat can not register at this time, they can apply in writing to info@admiralsregatta.co.za to register at the dinghy registration time as described in 6.2 below. 6.2 Dinghies and small catamaran entries are required to register at Hout Bay Yacht Club on Saturday 21 st April from 08h00 10h00. Dinghies and small catamarans also have the option to register at the keelboat registration as described in 6.1 above. 6.3 A voluntary skippers and navigators briefing will be held at Hout Bay Yacht Club on Friday 20 th April after racing at 20h00. 6.4 A maximum of eight races will be sailed (windward - leeward and a possible medium distance race) 6.5 The racing times and class schedule will be as follows: Friday 20 th April 2018 One twilight race will be held at 16h00 for keelboat classes only, namely: - Keelboats ORC and PHRF offshore racing class - Keelboats PHRF cruising class - Small keelboats inshore PHRF racing class Keelboats have the option to register before or after the race, and the race will be followed by a complimentary dinner at the club for all competitors and a voluntary skippers briefing. Saturday 21 st April Racing for all classes, with the first start scheduled for 10h00 The last race in the Keelboat ORC offshore racing class is for the John Coles Trophy which will be a sprint race from the finish buoy of the penultimate race of the day to a finish line laid in the bay. Sunday 22 nd April: Racing for all classes, with the first start scheduled for 10h00 The last race will not start after 15h00. Prize Giving will be held at Hout Bay Yacht Club and is scheduled for 17h00. 3
7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS: Sailing Instructions will be available to skippers on request from Hout Bay Yacht Club on email info@admiralsregatta.co.za and will be available on the website www.admiralsregatta.co.za 8 DIVISION OF CLASSES: Entries will be split into approximately equal starting divisions based on the number of entries as follows: - 8.1. Keelboats Offshore ORC and PHRF Class All handicap ratings together with not more than 30 boats per start. If more than 30 boats are entered then the division will be based on the potential speed of the boats with faster boats in Division 1 and slower boats in division 2, etc. Only boats that start in division 1 are eligible for the Admiral Sword Trophy or the Orphan Dagger Award. 8.2. Keelboats PHRF Cruising Class - All handicap ratings together with not more than 30 boats per start. If more than 30 boats are entered then the division will be based on the potential speed of the boats with faster boats in Division 1 and slower boats in division 2, etc. 8.3. Small keelboats inshore PHRF - All handicap ratings together with not more than 30 boats per start. If more than 30 boats are entered then the division will be based on the potential speed of the boats with faster boats in Division 1 and slower boats in division 2, etc. 8.4. Dinghies all classes together with not more than 40 boats in the start. If more than 40 boats are entered, then the division will be based on those boats making a class of four or more boats and the remainder in a separate handicap class. Class boats may be grouped together in one start or split into separate classes based on their speed potential. 8.5. Catamarans all classes together with not more than 30 boats per start. If more than 30 boats are entered, then the division will be based on classes. 8.6. The division of classes for each day will be posted on the Notice board not less than 1 hour before the scheduled start of the first race on each day. 9 SCORING: Three completed races are required to constitute a series When five or more races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. Boats will receive scores based on the corrected elapsed time where entered in a handicap category. Boats will be scored both on their handicap positions and their class positions for their respective division where there are sufficient entries in a class. 10 AWARDS, PRIZES AND TROPHIES 10.1 The following Floating Trophies will be awarded to the winning boat(s): - Admiral s Sword for the winning keelboat offshore boat overall based on a PHRF handicap. There will be additional trophies for the 2 nd and 3 rd boats - Orphan Dagger Award for the winning boat overall based on an ORC handicap. - A Trophy for the winner in the inter club team event. 4
- John Coles Trophy for the winner of John Coles Dash in the ORC fleet - A Trophy for 1st place in the medium distance races in the ORC fleet. 10.2 Prizes and other trophies may be awarded at the sole discretion of the Race Committee. 11 BERTHING Early is recommended to ensure dock space which will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
