CHANGES TO THE PROGRAM All programs for Prelims and Finals will only be available on the Omni Otters website and must be printed by the Parents and Coaches at home. Check for a final version the day of the event. If there are any changes to the programs after they are originally posted on the Omni Otter web site, they will be so noted. These changes typically result from final review of Prelim results. A deadline of 12:00 noon on the day of Finals has been established, so you may want to check back about 1:00 PM on the day of Finals to make sure you have the most recent program. TIMED FINALS AND A-B FINALS There are two types of Finals competition that will be swum. The first is what is known as Timed Finals. This is for events that were NOT swum at Prelims because there were 16 or fewer swimmers entered in the event. In Timed Finals, swimmers are seeded according to time and will place according to time, regardless of which heat (1 or 2) they are in. The second type is A-B Finals, which are events that WERE swum at Prelims. Swimmers placing in the top eight at Prelims will be competing in the A Final (Heat 2) of these events and will place 1-8. Swimmers placing in the 9-16 spots at Prelims will be competing in the B Final (Heat 1) of these events and will place 9-16 they CANNOT place 1-8, regardless of how fast their times are. A-B Finals events are most easily identified by the addition of Alternates in the program. Alternates are the 17 th and 18 th place swimmers from Prelims and if there is a scratch, an alternate will move into the B Final heat. If the scratch is in the B Final heat that is the only change that is made. However, if the scratch is in the A Final heat, the top swimmer from the B Final heat will move into the A Final heat and then the alternate will take that swimmer s place in the B Final heat. Scratches are determined on the day of the meet.
