JAY RONAYNE Head Coach 11th Season Hometown: Worcester, Mass. College: Massachusetts, 89 Wife: Mary Ronayne Jay Ronayne is in his 11th year as head gymnastics coach at Iowa State University. Ronayne has seen his Cyclones succeed both in the gym and in the classroom, while witnessing record attendance figures during his tenure. In his nine years at Iowa State, the Worcester, Mass., native has coached multiple All-Americans, two Big 12 Gymnasts of the Year, a Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year, a pair of Big 12 Newcomer-of-the-Year recipients and guided gymnasts six times to the NCAA National Championships in the all-around. Ronayne s Cyclones have qualified to an NCAA Regional 10 out of 11 years of his tenure. He has also seen his squads come within 0.1 of a point from being Big 12 champions, and Ronayne has coached nine Big 12 individual champions. During his tenure in Ames, Ronayne has seen record crowds come to watch his Cyclones inside Hilton Coliseum. The top four attended meets in Iowa State history, including a record crowd of 7,732 against Oklahoma on Feb. 8, 2013, have come under Ronayne s watch. Iowa State consistently ranks among the nation s best in attendance numbers, as the Cyclones have finished the season in the top 25 in national attendance for 14-straight years. 2015 was highlighted by a star senior and a bright future. Senior Caitlin Brown qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual for the second-straight year, making it five times in the last six years Ronayne has had an individual qualify for the NCAA Championships. Brown s senior year had many highs, tying a school record on balance beam, regular and postseason All-America honors on beam and a Big 12 championship on uneven bars, the apparatus coached by Ronayne. ISU s future is bright as a talented freshman class was welcomed into the program in 2015. Among the stars was 2015 s Big 12 All-Around champion, Haylee Young, the first Big 12 all-around crown for Iowa State in 12 years. Ronayne was named head coach at Iowa State on July 5, 2006. He came to Iowa State after four seasons (2003-2006) as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn. 2017 SEASON: VAULT The Cyclones earned their best score of the day at the Big 12 Championship with a 49.050 on vault. Haylee Young led the team on the event, tying her career-high with a 9.900 to tie for second place on the event. Young competed on vault in every meet last season, including the Minneapolis Regional, where she competed in the all-around. She came into 2017 with a career-high 9.875 on the apparatus, which she hit three times last season. She also recorded a 9.850 three other times. Iowa State earned its highest vault score in their final regular-season meet at No. 6 Alabama with a 49.250. Meaghan Sievers brought in the second-best score for the Cyclones with a 9.850. Earlier this season, Sievers tied her career-high score at West Virginia with a 9.925. Sievers led the Cyclones on vault in 2016, earning herself a spot at the NCAA Championship as an individual competitor on the event and earning a 9.775. She also held the team s highest season score on the event last season after earning a 9.925 for her vault at Illinois. She led Iowa State on vault in eight out of 13 meets in 2016. Kelsey Paz earned the third-highest score for ISU with a 9.825 at the Big 12 Championship, just one week after recording a career-high 9.850 at No. 6 Alabama. Kelly Martin brought in the next best score for Iowa State on vault with a 9.750. Sydney Converse competed on vault for the second time this season, scoring a 9.725 after recovering from an off-season injury. She hit her career- high in her first appearance this season with a 9.850 against Alabama. Converse earned a spot at the 2016 Minneapolis Regional Championship on vault. Converse was a steady competitor on the event throughout 2016. Briana Ledesma also competed for Iowa State against Alabama, scoring a 9.700. Ledesma and fellow junior Courtney Middelkoop have both subbed in and out of the lineup throughout the season on vault. Middelkoop competed as an exhibition at last Friday s meet. The ISU vault team is coached by head coach Jay Ronayne. 2017 SEASON: UNEVEN BARS ISU started of the Big 12 Championship on the uneven bars, earning a team score of 48.750. The team was led by Haylee Young with a 9.800. Young tied her career-high at No. 6 Alabama the week prior with a 9.875 to help the team to their season-high score of 49.200. Young worked her way into a regular spot in the uneven bars line-up during the second half of the 2016 season, after fighting to overcome a shoulder injury that made the event difficult for the Des Moines native. Three Cyclones earned a 9.750 at the Big 12 Championship to tie for ISU s next-highest score. One of the gymnasts, Meaghan Sievers, held Iowa State s season-high individual score on the event in 2016 after scoring a career-high 9.900. Hilary Green also earned the score of 9.750 at Big 12s and boasts a career-high of 9.900, which she has hit twice in her career. Green was ISU s top returning performer on bars, recording two 9.900 s in 2016 to tie with Meaghan Sievers as the season-high individual score. She also finished tied for third on bars at the NCAA Regional last season. Briana Ledesma recorded a 9.750 as well. Ledesma is the Cyclones individual season-high score holder on the uneven bars with a 9.900 at TWU, which also serves as the junior s career-high on the event. Kelsey Paz earned a 9.700 to round out the scoring for Iowa State on the uneven bars. Both Paz and Johnson earned their career-high with a 9.825 to help the Cyclones to their seasonhigh at No. 6 Alabama. The biggest change for the Cyclones on the uneven bars in 2017 has been the new uneven bars coach, Neilson Medieros Savage, who just returned from coaching Venezuelan gymnast Jessica Lopez at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. The Iowa State bars team is coached by assistant coach Nilson Medieros Savage.

2017 SEASON: BALANCE BEAM ISU earned their third-highest score of the day at the Big 12 Championship on balance beam with a 48.775. Freshman Casandra Diaz led the team for the first time in her career with a 9.800 on the event. Diaz holds a career-high on beam with a 9.900, the first time a freshman has earned the score since Young earned it in the 2015 Beauty and the Beast. The freshman s career-high helped Iowa State to their highest event score of the season, a 49.425 against Texas Woman s University. The score marks a tie for the fourth-highest beam score in school history, and is tied for the ninth-highest balance beam score in the country this season. Sydney Converse hit the next-highest score for the Cyclones on the event at Big 12 s with a 9.775, having worked her way back into the lineups after rehabbing a foot injury for the first half of the season. Converse qualifed as an individual event specialist on balance beam for the Minneapolis Regional Championship in 2016. She proved herself as a consistent competitor on beam in 2016, making the line-up in all 13 regular season meets. Converse earned her career-high in 2016 with a 9.850 against No. 23 West Virginia. Kelsey Paz scored a 9.750 to bring in the third-highest score for ISU. Paz is a regular in the lineup s lead-off slot, and hit a career-high this season at Texas Woman s University with a 9.875. Haylee Young and Meaghan Sievers both earned 9.725 s on beam to round out the scoring at the Big 12 Championship. Young is the team s current indvidual season-high holder with a 9.925 on the event. Young is regularly a consistant scorer on beam for the Cyclones. The junior scored the second 9.900 of her career on beam in 2016 against No. 14 Nebraska, NC State, and UW-La Crosse at Hilton Coliseum. The score tied for the Iowa State season-high on the event for 2016. The Iowa State balance beam group is coached by associate head coach Katie Minasola. 2017 SEASON: FLOOR EXERCISE The Cyclones earned their second-highest score at the Big 12 Championship on floor with a 48.925 in the third rotation, which placed them ahead of No. 22 West Virginia going into the final rotation of the meet. Haylee Young earned the Cyclones highest score on the event with a 9.875. Young earned the Cyclones highest individual event score of 2016 with a 9.925 to place first against in-state rival No. 17 Iowa and currently ranks 22nd nationally on the event. In 2017, Young has hit five 9.900 s and six 9.875 s. Sophomores Hilary Green and Briana Ledesma both scored 9.775 s on the event to tie for Iowa State s next-highest score. Ledesma is the Cyclones current individual high score holder for the season after hitting a 9.925 on floor against UW-Oshkosh and Towson. Ledesma excelled on floor in 2016, earning herself a then career-high 9.900 to take second place on the event against Iowa, and has showed her continued improvement on the event in 2017 with a martial arts-inspired routine. Two more Cyclones tied on the event with 9.750 s to round out the scoring at the Big 12 Championship. Both Courtney Middelkoop and Kelsey Paz earned the score to finish out the scoring routines. Meaghan Sievers also competed on the event at the Big 12 Championship, her fourth time competing on the event this season after debuting her routine at West Virginia earlier this season and earning a season-high 9.800 at No. 14 Iowa. The Cyclones earned their highest floor score of the season against No. 14 Iowa with a 49.300. Three Iowa State gymnasts earned 9.900s at the meet to earn the season-high score. The three Cyclones were juniors Haylee Young, Briana Ledesma, and Kelsey Paz. The score marks Paz s career-high on the event.
