The Elmhurst Times Home and World News Round-up Home News IT S WORLD BOOK DAY!!! On the, 2 nd March 2017 it was world book day and many schools and families dressed up as their favourite book character. Who do you dress up as? Thinking back to previous world book day...i am sure you have seen many superheroes before, but superheroes such as superman are not book actually official book characters! However people would argue that comics are books and superheroes are from comics Think of every superhero in the history of superheroes, try and spot as many as you can! It is not that hard as it is almost like a trend now. Keep your eyes peeled!! By Joe Gillham No Space in Schools in Britain 7 th March 2017 There are no spaces in schools so children are being transported around the country to schools they don t even want to go to. Apparently one sixth of children have to go to some schools they don t want to go to. There are not enough schools to go round so that is why people (kids) have to go to different parts in England. Olympic world record holder retires 14 th March Joanna Rowswell, 28, Olympic medallist has now announced retirement after a successful career in international cycling earning 2 gold medals for Great Britain. She quotes The decision to step away has been the hardest I've ever had to" she said "I believe I have more to offer to the world." She lasted 10 years after being picked up by an academy aged 16. By Oscar Sweeney 18 Year olds stuck in a GCSE Cycle Many people in Britain are stuck trying to get a C or above in their GCSE order to advance through their education. So many people are stuck doing their GCSE s over and over again. It is also putting stress on the teachers for they have taught people the same thing again. For many eighteen year- olds they have to be in a classroom with people who are fifteen years old. By Cameron Rhys Wray Drivers on phones get increased fines 7 th March Drives in the UK will get increased fines for being on their phones whilst driving. Drivers in the UK will get a doubled fine of 200 pounds if caught driving when they are on the phone. This rule has been introduced because citizens, such as a 9 year-old going to a swimming, have been hit by drivers who were on their phones, across the U.K By Joshua Manzi Karamagi Scotland plan independence vote 14 th March Scottish PM is planning for her country to have a vote of independence from the United Kingdom. This comes after England Prime Minister, Theresa May, received backing from the House of Lords last night to start the Brexit process. Most Scottish people voted to stay in the European Union, and she wants to leave the United Kingdom so that Scottish people get the result they voted for in the original vote. By Joshua Manzi-Karamagi

Using phones in your car can cost a hefty fine! When you drive your car, most of you always think that you should keep your eyes on the road and follow the rules. Well, you should! There is a new rule that if you are caught texting or using your phone in your car you could get 3 points on your driver s licence (which means 1 more point you will lose your licence!) To make matters worse, you may have to pay up to 500 pounds! So if you are someone who does this, then think, Is it really worth it? By Arjun 6C Prison smuggler: I brought mobile phones in for criminals. 14 th March 2017 James Almond was sent to prison after he managed to smuggle mobile phones into prison which is against the law. He agreed to do this after a conversation with a prisoner inmate. Prisoners can easily escape if staff or others can get past security and manage to give the tool of freedom to the prisoner. The prisoner begged to the 33 year old man to make an agreement. Later on, the prison staffs caught him red-handed and he was sent to jail. By Krishna Rajamannar 6C ARE WE GOING TO LEAVE? PEOPLE WANT TO LEAVE THE EUROPIAN UNION BUT SOME DON T DO YOU THINK WE ARE GOING TO LEAVE? Voters in Scotland want a second referendum as they find it unfair that they have to leave the europain union as they fear that there price of oil will go down and they would be dragged done with Britain s sinking ship, as some scotish people think they are going to be. Around four in five of those who want Scotland to remain part of the UK oppose having a second referendum within the next couple of years, while around two-thirds of those who back independence would like a vote to be held soon. America has put a new law saying that in 2018, America will lose all of its health insurance and follow the new republican way of health care. This means they need to pay 14 million to each hospital in America to quit the old medicines, treatments and vaccine and use what Trump says is the better way to treat patients. Most hospitals disagree with what Trump is doing but because he is the president, they must follow what he says or they can be taken down! The study, part of the Real Happiness Project, discovered watching Planet Earth II, increased people's feelings of awe, contentedness, and joy. Just remember that anything like nature documentaries or just television programmes can massively reduce your stress levels! Maybe after work, get changed, turn on the television and put your feet up to relax!
