Title: Overview: Links to badges: Links to a festival/notable date: Programme zones covered: Equipment/resource needed: Indoor campfire This is one for when you would like to prepare your Cubs for an outdoor experience, but the weather is not cooperating. It is ideal for a Winter night when you can plunge the Scout Hall into total darkness Outdoor, & Promise Challenges Outdoor & Adventure / Beliefs & Attitudes Glow in the dark wrist bands (optional). Torch, red tissue paper Programme detail Introduction and opening ceremony (5 minutes) After the Grand Howl explain that we will be holding a campfire. Indoors. After the boos, tell them that means cooking and food. But they need to sing for their supper. Active game (15 minutes)sixer Hunt Equipment Glow in the dark wrist bands. Can be bought 20 for a 1 in most Pound type shops You don t need the wristbands, but it lets the other Cubs see the Sixercoming.Put a wrist band on each Sixer. Instruct children to stay on all fours (minimizes injuries!).sixers have to catch another Cub, and work out who it is. Switch off lights for one minute. Switch on and see who they have caught.. Feedback!

Campfire Place a torch under some red tissue paper. Get Cubs to form a circle round it. Switch off lights (15 minutes) Words cannot be taken back once they are out there. Equipment: Tube of toothpaste Plate (for the mess) With all the Cubs sitting, ask someone to volunteer to do an experiment with you. Bring them to the front and ask them to squeeze some toothpaste onto some paper. Then when they have done so, ask them to put the toothpaste back into the tube. The youth will quickly discover that it is an impossible feat! Explain to them that you used the toothpaste to demonstrate what hurtful words are like. Once you have squeezed out hurtful words at someone there is nothing you can do to take them back in much like the toothpaste. Stress to them that the words are out there you can t take them back. Therefore, if you think you will want to take them back don t squeeze them out in the first place! Setting Respect Goals Have a discussion with your youth about what they think respect means. Help them to define respect. Then distribute a paper with the following sentences on it and ask them to fill in the blanks. Setting your respect goals: I will respect myself by: I will respect other Cubs/Scouts by: I will respect my leaders by: I will respect my pack/troop by: After they have filled out their goals, ask each youth to talk about one of their goals and why they chose it as being important to themselves. Game (10 minutes)bash the haggis Equipment Rolled up newspaper Leader walks around campfire circle. Cubs have eyes closed. Leader places rolled up paper in hands of one Cub and keeps walking. Cub statts hitting child to his/her left. That child must run round the curcle until he/she gets back to his/her place pursued by the child with the newspaper. Play until bored.
